Re: Pro event possibilty
Your right Matt, it does conflict with that Majors event. But there are no direct conflicts with the other areas. There will be a couple of back to backs so if folks could check their calendars and get back to the thread with an update I would appreciate it. I figure it will take 20 cars to make thi...

Yes JIm, that's perfect and reasonably priced. A data system is a good learning tool but I always suggest investing in seat time. The rather subtle things you learn with data come later.

Re: intake manifold/ carb question
If you have access to a glass bead maching a good internal cleaning will help vertually all manifolds since they're prone to rusting. Be sure to rinse out the manifold with brake clean afterwards. If the carbs are crudy, a bit of spray cleaner down the throat can't hurt either.

Re: Tachometer question
If memory serves me right, the tack in your car is a high quality VDO unit. I agee with Steve about cheap tachs. If shift points are your concern, a shift light is better. They're accurate and easy to see when you're racing.

Re: Pro event possibilty
This event would be in conjunction with the Michael Rand open wheel pro race weekend held at Mid Ohio on July 4th weekend. It will be a 3 day event with two sessions each day. SCCA pro runs and insures the event. Entry fees will likely be close to existing club prices but will be dependent on car co...

2014 Runoffs
It is now within one year to the runoffs and Motel 6 is accepting reservations for those frugal fellow vee folks. LIke most areas, rates will increase as soon as the area knows a major event is headed their way. In addition to Montery, look for places in Salinas it's about 20 minutes east of the tra...

Pro event possibilty
I have had some preliminary conversations regarding a pro event possibility for vees. It would take place probably in the cen div area and have a higher entry fee It would be a completely vee group with no other classes and track time would be dependent on entry fee. In the pro world a group buys it...

Re: Av Gas & regular gas mix?
I agree with Greg. The only race gas company that uses it's own refineries is Shell. They say it makes a difference and I'm inclined to agree. Problem is that it is not approved for the Runoffs so why bother. I prefer av gas too, but can't run it at the Runoffs.

Re: Mounting tires tips
I am not familar with the chinese changers but when you use a manual changer it's very critical to start rolling the tire on and then move the mounted portion of the tire into the smaller dia. area in the center of the rim as you go. You can do this by pushing down on the beaded portion of the tire....

Re: Av Gas & reular gas mix?
Just to add to what Steven said, only one race gas company obtains it's base stock from a consistent source, Shell. None of the other companies have their own refineries and supplies can vary from day to day. Granted, each company combines their own recipe of additives but the base stock will vary.

Some reports of swelling and dragging have been made regarding the more agressive Portherfields but the issue can be dealt with by backing off a couple of clicks on adjustment or adjusting while hot.

Thanks Jim your quote saved me some time. Add at least $300 per set of wheels and another $300 for a rear kit and you're looking at a $2000 buy in plus miscellaneous stuff that always adds up on my projects. Want extra rims for rains and qualies? add $300 to $400 a set. While I recognize there are s...

Re: August Minutes
Flexibility is just the thing to generate cries of favoritism and black helicopters. We have got to stick to the process and give this proposal a full and fair consideration. As for being an alternative, that's not relative to the process. It's a rule change. I have a suspicion that there are those ...

Re: August Minutes
Greg, would you prefer that we not go out to the members for input? How about rule changes just before the Runoffs? The process have evolved over the years and has never been better. The online letter tracking system built by the staff is just one example. Is it perfect? Of course not, don't forget ...

If the CRB decides to pursue this proposal, it must be put out for membership input for 30 days. This is required for all rule changes. Given the 2014 rule change season closes on October 1, it's not likely we'll see this change before 2015. The October date has been in effect for many years to prov...

Re: Runoffs Qualifying
Frankly, it's always about revenue. It has to be. Anybody think Road America is free? If the event is limited to a couple of hundred cars, (top 10 times 20 or so classes), what do you think the entry fee would have to be to break even? The balance of power lies with the tracks now and the single lar...

Re: Runoff entries hit 10 year high
So far, the feedback for 2014 Runoffs at Laguna Seca have been quite positive. The iconic track apparently is on the bucket list for many racers. It's a new approach for our club and there will be glitches but I think next year will surprise many.

Runoff entries hit 10 year high
There are 45 entries for the Runoffs which one short of hitting a 10 year record. My thanks to all who have entered and I'll be by to say it in person. This is the last year for Road America and the 50th anniversary for the Runoffs. If you haven't noticed, a special invite was extended to all former...

Rules regarding shoulder belt width only allow 2" if you are using a H&N restraint. Probably a moot point since H&N is required but a narrow belt could be an issue for a bare collar bone.

Bob, I think it's a cleverly named device but no where does it state that it's SFI 38.1 approved. It's similar to the Hutchins device which failed to pass the SFI test. I'd be careful with that one.
