Re: August Minutes

No one can demonstrate that an extremely low cost tire will bring back competitors that have stopped racing. The fact is we do not know how to bring them back. Brian, and what you state is exactly the concern, if that's what we use as the basis for making a decision. I think this suggests that a so...

Re: Hoosier Spec Tire for FV

To me this is not really a significant improvement at the $900.00/set price level. The current Hoosier FV tire will go 6 cycles in most cases. This is not my idea of a great spec tire. That is not my idea of a great spec tire either. But, to be fair, we do need to say that the current Hoosier FV ti...

Correct, I was not referring to the ARs, but the Falkens. I have not driven on the ARs.

Yes, about 5 seconds a lap slower for that lap time seems to be about right. However, for a given lap time I think there will be a variation in the difference in performance depending on the specific track configuration/conditions. John

If this is allowed do you see an advantage to the forged piston having an advantage in the context of it being more thermally stable, affording it's being installed with tighter tolerances w/o the fear of seizing? Mike, I believe that cast pistons are much more thermally stable than forged, unless ...

Re: Brake shoes

I got the Porterfields last year and put them in new VW NOS drums and they fit fine - angled adjusters. Perfect arch as well. Maybe they're sourcing their cores from a different vendor now, or the shoe material is thicker.

Our local airport said that they cannot knowingly sell fuel for non-aviation purposes, but advised (wink, wink) that the self-service pumps were open 24/7 and the airport is only staffed until 7 PM..... I have that same experience. What seems to work, too, is to go to 100ll.com and find the folks w...

I'm going to post this on the NEFV forum on ApexSpeed as well... Mark was concerned that people were thinking he was solely to blame for the NEFV organization. I'd like to mention how the NEFV group came about and how it grew into what it is today, in case it will help other regions do something sim...

Re: Bleedin' clutch slave...

Every time you release the pedal it would have to suck air in. Barry Yes, this definitely can happen. I had a front slave cylinder doing this. It was after the car sat for a year before I bought it. At the time, it was the last thing I expected - sucking air when the brake was released. I used an e...

Re: Bleedin' clutch slave...

Barry, I didn't read this thread thoroughly, so I hope I'm not saying anything already covered or dismissed. Are you sure your bleed hose is tight? I had a similar problem a few months back. On my slave cylinder the bleed hose nipple is very small and my hose would not fit quite tightly enough. So w...

Re: Just don't get it!

What I was trying to say before is that apparently it isn't that simple. We've had surveys before where the majority was still ignored or disregarded. It's just the way things work, nothing seems to change unless there's very nearly 100% support. Actually, I think it's the opposite. The surveys oft...

The role of the committee is an interesting topic. There are almost as many viewpoints of the committee's role as their are folks commenting on it - this thread alone has already begun to bear that out. That's okay, though t- it will never change. The result of this is that many people correspond wi...

Re: Was Brad's Brundage Cup block OK?

Unless you've raced without mirrors, you may not understand what the pro-anti-mirror guys are talking about. When you drive an open wheel race car, you drive a different style than if you raced a closed wheel car for fear of launching one or both cars. When you race without mirrors you also change r...

Jim, Thanks for the insight. Do you know how accurate the torquemeister is? I know it's just ratios, but have you compared using it and then checking the torque with your torque wrench to see if there is any binding or friction that we might need to take into account? John
