Re: My letter about the FV spec intake

After looking over some data from the last 3 weeks I can say that my bench has been less than 1%on av .7%. That's why I have doubts about how well these can be controlled. If the test equipment is only repeatable within 1%, and the manifolds are only good for 1%, there can be a 2% range in "ac...

2 the same company would make another run Yes, but after the initial run, demand is going to drop. So the next run might only be 50 pieces. What is the cost then? 7 mine is perfect IDK about others stuska 400 with CDS data and custom flow bench Statements like this are exactly why I can't support t...

Re: F1200

Wow Steve, thanks for that post. I know I'm an easy target here, and it probably would have been best for me to remain silent on these issues. But I'm just not comfortable with the information I have seen to support things like spec tires or manifolds at this point. Back to the topic: I think that H...

Re: My letter about the FV spec intake

Erik, Some of what Brian says does have merit. There are too many unanswered questions right now about the spec manifold. Some of the questions I would like to see answered: 1) Who will pay for the initial run of 300-400 manifolds to ensure the quoted price. 2) What happens when those run out and we...

Re: My letter about the FV spec intake

Erik, It would be best for me to sit out of these discussions, as obivously it's easy to use me as a target. I have no idea why I keep being used as an example, since just because I won the runoffs does not mean I have the best manifold. If I do, protecting its use doesn't really mean much too me as...

Re: F1200

No one has any idea what I pay for, and to imply I don't pay for tires, engine work, manifolds, ect is actually a little on the insulting side. I bought a manifold just like everyone else, I buy tires (although through the grace of contingency not as much as I used to), and I certainly pay for engin...

Re: January meeting

I know for a fact that the Varacins are continually testing heads and taking pick of the litter from their builder who is always tinkering with what works best. Fine. What would change? I'm sure they did the same with their manifolds. Bruce, Yes, we have tried a lot of different heads. All of which...

Re: January meeting

Easy Greg- You're taking my comment to the extreme. But do you honestly think that someone who happens to have a FV in his garage that he "might" take it out and race it a time or two should have equal control over the direction of the class as someone who is actively racing?? You're imply...

Re: January meeting

Steve, I'm not sure that just because 3 people who have responded for every 1 are for a spec manifold, that it should be viewed as the proper direction. This may not be popular opinion, but I don't think everyone should have an equal say in matters such as this. I don't think someone who races once ...

Re: January meeting

I am opposed to a spec manifold for the following reasons: 1) The main cost driver in current manifolds is the minor differences between them. People are willing to pay a lot extra for a manifold that is "slightly" better then one they currently have. Who wouldn't pay extra for a manifold ...

Runoff start photos

I found this group of photos from the runoffs - there are a bunch of photos from the bridge and turn 1 showing the mess at the start. I don't have everyone's e-mail address that was involved in it, so I am posting the link here....

Re: National Dates

Those here in the Central Division feel your pain. Since the division spit, we lost Grattan, Mid-Ohio, Gingerman, and Indy. We've been reduced to 2 tracks for our entire national season. I'm still bitter over that whole deal. :x

Re: Discounted Hoosiers

So these are the tires that when used with a long box will "mimic" a short box - more or less - right? Yes, kind of. They will still be a little off. Keep in mind these are the R55 compund, not the 55A. The 55A is what everyone has been using for the past 2 years, so any fronts you bought...

Discounted Hoosiers

I noticed on Hoosier's web site they have some older short FV rears (21.5 x 5.5 x 15) in the R55 compound for sale for only $65 each plus free shipping. They are not the current 55A compound, but still a good tire. Could be a good deal for someone.

Re: Tires?

First off - Doug, you purchased an excellent car. I think I speak for everyone here in the Cendiv when I say welcome to FV and we are happy to have another one on the track. I agree 100% with what Doug said about street tires. NO WAY can I possibly support the idea of a street tire on our cars. We a...

Re: Tires?

Gotta love the internet. How did we argue these things before it? It occured to me as I was reading through the postings on manifolds and tires, that it seems like much of the reasoning behind all the panic regarding them is the some feel they need to have them in order to be competitive. But is tha...

Who is buying a new manifold every year or two? I've been involved in FV's for 15 years now. In that time I've purchased 3 manifolds. I've had as many FV's as I've had manifolds!

The more things that become "spec", the less you will be able to develop what you have.

Re: Tires?

So far the only "success" story that has been cited as legitimate example has been the CFF/FST tire. I do not know any CFF drivers running serious efforts that can attest to the life of the tire. So I remain skeptical on that example. Greg has done an excellent job at pointing to series th...

How many of them realize that knocking 12 pounds off of their ass is a lot cheaper than a new, whizzy $1000 manifold? Exactly Doug. Re: Tires?

How can you possibly say that a spec tire has been a benefit to IRL, F1, NASCAR, ect????? How has it been a benfit to them? Has their tire budgets gone down because they get more heat cycles out of a tire????? I'm not even sure the F2000 series can be an example. I would have to look into the situat...

Re: Tires?

Greg, I added to my previous post but I didn't get it in before you responded. SRF has tried NUMEROUS tires over the years. They all suffered from specific heat cycles that were better then others. We do not know if SRF would be better without a spec tire, but we can't say it wouldn't be either. I'm...

Re: Tires?

NO WAY is the SRF tire a better example then the current FV tire situation. I raced a couple of nationals in a SRF last season, and I can assure you, the current SRF tire has a magic heat cycle in them, and tire management is very important to them. They do not last any longer then our current FV ti...

Why does it seem like a spec manifold is still being railroaded through? I thought the concensus has been the best approach is better controll over the dimensions.
