Re: July Minutes
On the AA cyl. issue: Are we aware that there is an 800 # for AA, right here in CA? The man to talk to is Ron Barton, the owner of the company is Chinese, speaks it fluently, and may be a more direct contact. Even if he is just another voice asking for the same thing, I don't see where it can hurt o...

Re: July Minutes
I am a firm believer in the free market. While the cost of Vee parts has risen, and availability of Vee parts has diminished, look at the package deals that are currently listed. They are dirt cheap, and in some cases you can purchase a complete package for less than the cost of a conversion. A coup...

and carefully lap either end of the bushing Hello Mike, Missed you at the 50th... Thanks for the tip. Never thought about that. I am close to what I *think* I should be. I'm going to check after it gets hot and see where it goes. As I recall it tightens up a bit... Now, if I could just create a ten...

Re: Hoosier tire bead seating?
Just a few random thoughts from a Hoosier dealer of roughly 30 years: The tires have become much harder to mount over the years. This is not a bad thing, just a fact. When I got into Vee in 1979, I was able to swap used tires on the ground with a big hammer and two screwdrivers. Dismount, mount 2nd....

Re: Tapered brake shoe wear
Mike, In light of what you have said, I am more suspicious of the shoes. I would check squareness of the lining to the mounting "blade" (couldn't think of anything else to call it), along with the distance from that "blade" to the edge that rests against the backing plate. Mike P.

Re: oil presure threads
edited for clarification
One other possible solution is to machine that surface sufficiently (remove surface material, allowing the sender to travel further into the tapered hole), effectively tightening the fit, provided the threads have not been stripped.

Okay, Found this on You Tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6S5Uapc8GjE I need to look at cam to see if it works. ChrisZ As far as this video goes, (along with some of the others) all I care to say is....Goodness! As for what I consider the proper technique: Go to TDC as marked on the pulley and r...

Great discussion.............and then along came Bob (I'm still laughing). Just wanted to mention, irregardless of how much endplay you personally desire, if you find that you cannot achieve it with the shims furnished, simply go with the shims combo that gives you slightly more endplay than you wis...

Re: Race Ready FV Carb
Hi Mike, Sorry for not getting back with you sooner. Yes, the carb is still available. Yeah, it was well worth the nearly 5,000 miles we put on during that trip. So glad we did it. Had a fantastic time. Took 18 days, and got back just in time for MINUS 4 degrees F. and a foot of snow! Feel f...

Re: 50th and Tires
Talk about looking at "the glass being half empty"! Here is how I see it: Every component that goes into the making of the tires, both material and labor have gone up in price. Additionally, with GY no longer competing for the sales, Hoosier could have raised prices considerably more AND n...

Fresh Engine 4 sale...SOLD
Freshly built and dynoed this morning (02/14/2013). Fully blueprinted late style case, Peak Perf. WedgEdge crank, KS cylinders, New Pistons, trick rings, ARP bolts, Chrome Moly studs, New cam. I rate this engine as a mid power Natl. or Regl. Screamer, and I just have a couple too many engines in sto...

Using a ratchet-lock tiedown to induce pressure for setup....never thought of that...What a great idea! Thanks Brian. Re: High Brake Pedal Pressure
Several good points here, and while I realize this thread is from some time ago, it is also a very common problem...........so: Lowering and aligning the rod as Bob stated can make a big difference. Good alignment is obvious, and lowering the attachment point on the pedal increases your leverage. Wh...

Re: Torquing head studs
I think Jim has this covered pretty well, BUT being the budinski that I am, I will add this: Over the years, I have seen some longer 1200cc P.R.T.s. Additionally, with the decking of the heads and case, trimming of cylinders, it can all compound the situation. I built a fixture for the press, where ...

Re: Flywheel to crank gaskets
Don, Ditto on the metal gasket. I will just add this: Always check the threads on the gland nut. By this I mean make sure that they are symetrical, and not starting to look like teeth on a hacksaw blade. Only use German gland nuts. I torque to 300 lb. ft., AND if you are using an early "short l...

Both Bob and Jim have far more experience with the vintage setup, but I will add this.....for what it's worth: Early fan, stock 7" pulley, nuthin-special belt, very little time spent aligning stuff, stock non-charging gen. 3,000 rpm syphons 1 hp. 6,000 rpm GOBBLES 6-10 hp. On the subject of run...

Re: effect of exhaust leaks on engine power
Just as a side-note....You might consider replacing that old style fuel pump. The pressed in brass tubes can pop out. If the outlet one does at speed, you and your car are toast. I don't believe SCCA even allows them anymore. I had one pop on the dyno, and it gets real exciting, real fast.

Re: effect of exhaust leaks on engine power
Jean, Just happened across this, and to add to good advice you've already received, You might consider this: While the cracked piston must be replaced, from the looks of it, I doubt that it is responsible for the power loss. Could be completely wrong, but I suggest you show those pipes, along with y...

Steve and all, A few random memories: I chickended out on the Lanier race, but watched it with Elaine and Jamie. First we saw your crash, and then we saw Bill Noble spin. Delayed yellow, as he unbuckled and sttod in the car just as Gary Cook was coming around and pointed right at him. The infield wa...

Another Peak Perf. Wedgedge Crank
This is a P. P. Wedgedge that has been freshly ground to 30-30. (actually -.75mm) on both the rods and the mains. It still checks sufficiently hard, is from the era when I was grinding and polishing the entire throws. Almost too pretty to hide inside the block. Of course it has been balanced, stroke...
