Re: Spec Tire Survey Results

The tire engineers are good. They'll build a tire that will be good in their first attempt and make minor refinements by production time. Ongoing tire development programs would cease after the initial batch .... there is cost savings! Eliminating tire sponsorships ..... there is cost savings! Elim...

Re: Spec Tire Survey Results

Facts? There really are only two facts that apply to this discussion. 1) Virtually every pro racing Series and most amatuer racing in the world, virtually every class at every oval track in America, from F1 to Nascar uses a single tire supplier as an effective cost-saving and safety tool. 2) FVs in ...

Re: Spec Tire Survey Results

The technology is available. The exact same people making the current tires would be making the new tires, so why would they be worse? What we need now is the will of people, particularily those that are sceptical, to make it work. Paragraphs of fear-mongering is not helping. Hopefully, some of the ...

Re: Spec Tire Survey Results

Maybe the elite FV drivers should unite, set an example, and run the 2013 spec tire at the 2012 Runoffs!

Great leadership!

Great promotion!

It would pull it all together, leading into the Birthday season!

Re: Spec Tire Survey Results

The least acceptable way of dealing with this is picking the hardest current tire (R55's) as a spec and getting the price down. The R55 is what 72% of the people are looking for when asked what type of spec tire they would want. "A specifically designed slick tire by Hoosier, Goodyear, America...

Re: Spec Tire Survey Results

Dont forget SCCA will not want to deal with this. Plus there are more drivers against this idea then have spoken out. There are still a large group of us who feel this can be a huge set back for the class, and will fight against it. I don't see the momentum growing other then an increased bitching ...

Re: Spec Tire Survey Results

There is lots of politics to deal with ..... With the incredibly strong support for spec tires growing, the community needs to keep pushing and make sure this happens as quickly as possible. There is real momentum now, and alot of focus coming to FV next year. If we can get Hoosier to spec out a spe...

"tire designed to last 12-15 heat cycles with little grip degradation, rubber to last 20 heat cycles"... Mark Yes, and the previous history of compounds, constructions, models, etc is irrelevent. Bruce Foss from Hoosier is capable of making the tire we need. He is capable of doing it in t...

Re: Midwest FV Drivers Association

I think the group is too fragmented in their ideals to have a cohesive national voice. The Ontario group is very well organized. Although not officially associated, the unified political lobbying, and special event organization, of the New England group has shown they are a powerful force. If you can...

Re: Zero roll "bump" limit?

Brian should start a thread about his car and rear suspension. Maybe people can help him sort out his problems. For the purposes of this discussion, Brian's car is unlike the other 99.9% of the FVs in North America and talking about it in the general context of FV is very misleading and confusing fo...

Re: Zero roll "bump" limit?

For the purpose of this discussion ... Any time that I went stiffer than about 130lbs wheel rate on the rear .... on any track thats not perfectly smooth .... which in the NEDIV is every track. The car got darty loose and scarey. My interpretation was that since FVs and FST cars are essentially runn...

Re: Zero roll "bump" limit?

3- You know better than this, you're just messing with people. Every year we replay this conversation. We're still not on a billiard table smooth surface. And just to clarify, you do indeed run a droop limiter, it is just built into the valving of your shock. Now that we have covered that, we shoul...

Re: Zink Z12/18 steering setup

Barry, The placement of all those pivots, links, etc is very critical. When its right, bump steer characteristics are excellent. When wrong .... its nasty! If you are looking at adding footroom, most people these days seem to go with the inverted steering box behind the dash. Much simpler, fewer par...

Double Nationals get better entries but the organizing Regions kept fighting over who would get the Double Nationals. This is a way they decided to spread the wealth amongst all.

hope is works for you it sucks being uncomfortale It is not about being comfortable. With a Defender, the lowest I could get my head .... I was looking at Venus. With the HANS, I could just see the top of the strg wheel but not read the dash. It was nothing to do with the cables or behind the head ...

Re: Head & neck restraint systems

I'm thinking that on hot summer days, people are not going to want straps tight across their chest while breathing hard during an event. . Say what? Like having a rigid foot-square plastic/composite frame wrapped around our necks and strapped down to our chests is going to be preferable to a harnes...

Re: Mono shock zero roll for D-13

so you used both shocks? That would be no arrow savings nor weight savings. did you kept the same uprights? Mark I used everything. I just made a coupler for the droop limiters and a coupler for the shocks. Yes it was more aerodynamic. It had struts on each side instead of shocks, springs, and droo...

Re: Mono shock zero roll for D-13

In 1987, I rearranged the rear suspension on my D13. I made a collar and threaded by Bilsteins together end to end. I made a collar and threaded my droop limiters together. Then I made solid links to replace the shocks. In the days before testing, I just put it on the car and went racing. I had won ...

Re: Wire size

Most people do not want fo have a fusebox. If the car is freshly wired, and well-maintained, why would you? It increases the connections and potential problem areas by 200%. Cars with expensive electronics (like FF-Fit and FC-Zetec) do not apply.
