Re: Formula Vee Meeting during the Runoffs

Doug, To answer your question, I read in I believe it was the August Sportscar that they'll be opening up the use of all fuels, but testing a broader range of carcinogens and performance enhancers. To do this, they're going to be sending the fuel samples out for lab testing and getting back to you o...

Re: Formula Vee Meeting during the Runoffs

SCCA did open up use of pump gas in all classes, so I'm thinking just buy a bottle of lead additive for the fuel and save some serious coin by buying regular or premium unleaded vs 110/112 octane.

Re: First Victory

Sadly, my first win wasn't very emotional. There was only one other car that took the green flag, so I didn't feel like it was much of an accomplishment. The second, however was the thrill of a lifetime as I was side by side with Andy across the line at WGI. I was worried he was going to overtake me...

Ripped in half like that? These are the only two I've ever seen rip. I've only ever seen them just bend before.

Re: F1200

the beam? how so? i thought that was linkpin only. And nobody's saying we should go to a completely spec package throughout the whole car, we're just trying to spec the parts that offer a large performance gap per dollar spent. ($1200 manifolds, tires only good for about 4 heat cycles before they're...

Wow, I never thought I'd see another beam that was torn in half like that... Happened to me at WGI this year, that hurt for a long long time too. Hope Paul gets well soon

Re: Formula Vee Meeting during the Runoffs

I have a question, why is it that it seems everyone is up in arms and saying they'd gladly pay for a spec manifold. But scoffs at the idea of a spec tire that, even if we needed to get one or two new sets of wheels would pay for itself in less than two or three years? It just seems odd to me that on...

Re: F1200

Steve, you forgot to mention it was a 19 year old home built car. I suppose you could say I'm another one of those success stories, Although I didn't buy a car, (just used my dad's) I placed no lower than 2nd in my first 3 races and was qualifying at or near pole all year long. My budget was ...

Re: WTB: oil block for oil cooler

Actually converting my Protoform to that setup over the winter. Along with a different cooling system entirely. as I have a spare body and enough free time on my hands and desire to squeeze a little bit more from the car. Look for me to have a setup similar to the Caracal D when it's all said and do...

Re: The start of a project

Holy shit! i recognize it now! it's an old formula ford! Actually the same style ford as the Skip Barber cars. I forget the name of said chassis, but that's exactly what it is. The trapezoidal frame and all of the cross bracing tubes match up, even the front motor mount is the same as the Skippy car...

Re: Formula Vee Meeting during the Runoffs

Perhaps the manifold issue is the straw that broke the camels back. Maybe the cost escalation is tied to the lack of new blood. We’re trying to attract the “younger” generation, but no one wants to give up what they’ve worked so hard or paid so dearly for. I did a Google search for average annual i...

That's an amazing track and I recommend everyone attend at least once. And yeah, At the National several years back, the track record was broken using a 4-car long bump draft chain.

Now that sounds like it could work... Although, I very much liked the Double Regionals once a month. It was nice to save on tow money as I was running on an extremely limited budget.

Re: National Vs Regional Drivers

I think it depends on a case by case basis. I'm certainly thinking of running some nationals in the next year or two to see how I stack up, but then again I've always been a glutton for punishment when it comes to competing where everyone else is far superior. Just ask the Gold level dancers I decid...

Re: Regional Championships

Don't forget, Doug, that your mindset obviously isn't in the majority. There's a huge contingent of racers who want to be legends in their own mind, and being able to say they won this that and the other thing even though it's no Daytona 500 is what they come to the track for. SCCA is in the service...

Re: Formula Vee Meeting during the Runoffs

I'm going to have to agree with Michael on this one, everything is always escalating, otherwise we'd have perhaps had a D13 win the Runoffs this year :P Drivers and their crew will always have the mentality that every little bit helps. One weekend a few years back, I turned down the lug bolts on the...

Re: NARRC Runoff Photos 10/3/09

Absolutely! And with any luck, the R&D I want to push through will be on the Protoform for next season. (Since there's no chance in hell I'll be able to get my hands on an alternative chassis to play with...)

Re: Regional Championships

in that same vain, I would like to see all those regional classes that have one or two cars if that at any given race abandoned in favor of throwing them in SPO/SPU or in a formula version. FCO/FCU perhaps? that'd create much more focused fields than when you have events where 35 different classes s...

Re: The start of a project

Reminds me alot of my dad's old Zink Z12, but it's the wrong body and the back half of the frame is all wrong, not to mention at least my dad's Z12 the beam was welded on as part of the chassis itself.

Re: Formula Vee Meeting during the Runoffs

So the new spec manifold would be more horsepower than the current blown manifolds? How would this be cheaper unless we had SCCA Enterprises be the sole supplier? Or would the spec manifold be opened up to using different materials such as 3D printed plastic to get the price down?
