Re: F1200

i'll have to second Steve. Mike earned that win. I seriously doubt anybody else could have taken his equipment and won in such dominating fashion. likewise, he could probably take just about any car that comes to the runoffs and be running up front. the whole point of this class is that it is the dr...

Re: Minimum Weight Survey

i'm 1040 right now coming off the track. it's because my father, (15lbs lighter than i) added false bottoms for the fuel cell and driver's feet, plus powdercoating. i have no clue how i'd remove the powdercoat and i'm not about to get rid of the false bottoms, they're a good safety feature to have. ...

Re: Offset camber bushings

i had a strange experience with my linkpins.... I set them to an angle I wanted and the front end bound up. But, after a session on the track, the front end didn't bind anymore, and the angle held. Any reason why this would happen?

What would people recommend for a P2 Protoform with driver sitting on the fuel cell? What degree angle HANS or if you'd recommend Hutchins or D-fender?

yeah, we just bolt on one of those red trailer side markers to the back of our car and that's our rain light... and our oil pressure warning light too, for that matter.

Re: Is there a consensus?

hmm... it'd be one hell of a workout, but why not use a linkpin beam and have aggressive amounts of caster? that'd resolve your positive camber issues, at the sacrifice of ease of turning the car.

Re: Is there a consensus?

what modifications would be allowable to the balljoint beam? couldn't you just chop it to the same track as the linkpin beams and use the linkpin springpack?

Re: Tires?

who ever said that we were limiting the tire's lifespan to 1 season? if he can get a whole season out of one set of the current tire, how many seasons do you think he could go on a spec tire using the same methods?

Re: Tires?

it's a topical fluid that supposedly softens up old hard tires. my father stopped using it about the time he started running nationals tho. so idk if he just got lazy or if he found it didn't work.

Re: Tires?

I agree that perhaps the Khumo may not be the best solution. The point I was trying to make is that, even if we had to buy new wheels, a harder spec compound will pay for itself in short order. Especially if it lasts 30+ heat cycles as the Khumo are claimed to. I think I heard somewhere up there the...

you could also say that you need a firewall between the oil cooler and driver. that would reduce/remove risks from cracked front mount oil coolers.

Re: Tires?

Having just bought a FV for the 2010 season, I speak only for myself when I say that the thought of new wheels and street treaded tires in what already is the slowest open wheeled class out there has ZERO appeal to me, and I'm sure many others. It's bad enough to be lumped in with faster F5s, but r...

Good question. Perhaps Greg or another that runs the FV1200 could chime in. What front shocks are used in the class mostly? Are they comparable to the current shocks on the market?

Re: Tires?

Bruce, The Khumo are treaded, so you don't need a rain tire. I did not include the price of the current rims because they are what's known in economics as a 'sunk cost'. You already bought them, but you never have to throw good money after bad, to coin a phrase. This is also not something that will ...

Re: Tires?

I suppose if you want to go so far as to say serviceable tires instead, you can recompare. I get about 8-10 out of a set of tires before they're completely shot. that's still 1/3 the lifespan of the khumo, we can recompare even 600(X/10)=600(X/30)+350 60X=20x+350 3X=350 X=12 sessions so about half a...

Re: Tires?

the responce you're looking for is a simple algebra problem. pick the current tire situation and switching to the khumo A current tires are about $600USD a set (at least that's what i have to pay). They last you approx 4-ish heat cycles (this is just an estimate from what I'm reading on the forum) b...
