Re: Possible way to reach out to a younger audience

I'm under the impression tires cost a heck of a lot more in other classes, possibly also use more fuel too.

Re: Possible way to reach out to a younger audience

Good point. Most of the people who race vees have had prior experience with formula vees, whether through family or friends. What do they see in vees that the average passerby would not? I think if we could pin down a good answer and find a way to get the average passerby to see why those who have b...

Re: Possible way to reach out to a younger audience

Methinks that's why he's moving up to FC after a couple years in vee. Yes, there's very little exposure in Vee anymore. Possibly getting a new national Pro-Vee series together that gets TV coverage and follows an established pro series (eg. ALMS, GrandAm, IRL) would help that? Also doesn't help that...

Re: Possible way to reach out to a younger audience

I asked because the University of Connecticut Car Club puts on a car show every spring (first or second week in April) and they usually get between 200 and 350 cars entering the show, not including the fact that it's right on campus, so a large number of college students show up to spectate. (The UC...

Possible way to reach out to a younger audience

I know that there's several colleges and handful of high schools that put on car shows every year. Do you think it would be a worthwhile endeavor to utilize this audience of young motor-heads by perhaps setting up a vendor booth or bringing a handful of cars to shows to generate interest?

Re: Various Questions

Not to threadjack, but I'm kinda in the same boat as far as overweight. I come in at a mean 1044 running on fumes. There's no ballast left in the car, my dad had the chassis powdercoated and I'm not so ambitious that the car's gonna be torn apart and powdercoating removed. How much of a disadvantage...

Re: need advice on reverse lockouts

I've seen some Protoforms that use a rotating pin that backstops the bottom of the shift lever, simply rotating the pin 90* removes the reverse lockout and can be done from within the car.

Re: Battery type question

My dad's been using a motorcycle battery since we bought our Protoform. It's nice because we can mount it lying down on the floor pan which gets it out of the way, and also out of harm's way in the event of a collision. If you do go with a motorcycle battery, don't leave it in the car over the winte...

Re: Setup baseline help Protoform P2

I'm considering getting a tire pyrometer to help me fine tune as I go along to get the most out of the tires. Does anyone else use them and/or know how to interpret data beyond just making sure that each tire is the same temperature across the width of it? (eg. left tire hotter than right tire means...

Re: Formula Vee Driver's Club (please read and provide feedback)

Would it maybe be possible to have SCCA sanction independent formula vee racing that we could have be a spectator sport? I'm thinking something along the lines of the FCM Vee/1st championship, but one that could get spectators involved. I know given that I make well under $30k/yr, any opportunity to...

Re: Help about intake debate for us novices

From what I understand, the problem with the new manifolds was the rules specifically say that it's a spec class, if the rules don't say you can, you can't. I personally don't think the manifolds are strictly within the rules because it doesn't say that you're allowed to expand the metal. That being...

Setup baseline help Protoform P2

Hi, I'm Brian, Tim's son. I'm starting to drive his car. He's the first to admit, he just drives the car, he doesn't know how to set it up. I've suspected that the car could be setup better from a suspension standpoint. Currently, we're running an unknown front swaybar, unknown front camber, 0 no ca...
