Re: Formula Vee Meeting during the Runoffs

...FV has always been a scoungers class and it should remain. It certainly was and could remain. I don't think "scrounger" (spl?) means the same as before. Although we do pride ourselves in that many parts of a FV can be fixed with a trip to the hardware or the local autoparts store. You ...

National Vs Regional Drivers

In another thread, there was talk about Regional drivers may not want National drivers around at Regionals. Before we had all these Regional championships, people would run regionals for fun and when the touring National Race came around, everyone would enter to see how they stacked up. Now, very fe...

Re: Regional Championships

I think we are getting into 2 different conversations. To go back to the idea of a regional championship: 5 or 6 regular races - all races count for points, no less that 3 weeks in between races with the exception of 1 double race weekend allowed. 1 Championship race at the end of the year. Double p...

Re: NARRC Runoff Photos 10/3/09

Mark can join in if he is around - he did say he was ready to sacrifice the rains and he did. I went with drys initially because everyone else was on them and I figured I would have an advantage with my knowledge of the track. I am sure Mark was second guessing at first but I would like to have seen...

Re: Still learning - coil failure - curse

That is me in the Black car - glad Craig didn't run into me - I really had to whoa up as Brian was spinning and I had to wait until John picked (which unfortunally turned out to be the wrong side) the lane to take. Craig went low and almost ran into Tony! Looks like Dennis up high dancing around up ...

Re: Still learning - coil failure - curse

No, Tony didn't hit me. I made a rookie mistake and rolled out of the throttle a tad too much when I felt I was coming up on Dennis too quickly. That snap spun the car and I actually took Tony's valve stem out with my nose en route up the track. I slid up instead of down because I put both feet in,...

Re: Still learning - coil failure - curse

Chris, I agree with you, I think that the gearbox is cursed. You need to have an exorcism to rid it of evil spirits. Or have Lybarger douse it with holy water. Doug There is another story there but I will save that for now - here is another part of the coil story - a few years ago I was racing at L...

Re: Still learning - coil failure - curse

Yea, the kill switch kills everything - but get in the habit of turning off the ignition first and then turning off the kill switch and you will never have that problem. ChrisZ How are you doing John? I found out Tony hit the spinning Brian like cuting a pool ball and that's what shot him up the tra...

Still learning - coil failure - curse

Just when you thought you had it figured out. I was working on my car at the NHMS regional, and ran the engine and shut it off using the kill switch. Forgot to hit the ignition switch, so when I turned the master on later, I forgot the ignition was on (about 5 minutes??). When I found it, I started ...

You can also find fiberglass sheets in roofing material stores: for example: http://ddfiberglass.com/flat-fiberglass-sheet-and-rolls.html You can get this in solid white, (or maybe other colors?) I have a 4 x 8 roll which I have used for various products. I have to look at the "cut and fold&quo...

Re: Don't Drive Like My Brother

Just like drag racing, much of the start is probably in the control of the engineers rather than the driver. It is amazing that no one hit him, considering the acceleration rate. See if you can find the in car from Räikkönen. What I found amazing was his move to where people were not. His choice of ...

Re: Formula Vee Meeting during the Runoffs

Just to throw an idea out there. Racing has progressed just like the housing bubble. Increased housing value and free credit have allowed prices to spiral out of control. When people are selling GT1 cars for $150,000. and new Formula Fords are estimated to be on the other side of $60,000. then the w...

At the Lime Rock National Ken Payson was involved in a terrible wreck: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlHfGGgTVsc He credits a HANS Device with maybe saving his life (he got out of the car by himself but has several fractured vertebrae in his neck). Just to clarify my post. It may look to be about manifolds but it could just as easily be about tires, carbs or rocket fuel. The fact that you would have to buy a specific component and if you did not have it, then you would not be competitive. That is against the spirit of the rules. That a particu...

I sat on this for a few days since you should never write anything in anger - but I still stand by it. - cmz Brian is completely right. I have sold about 10 manifolds @ $1200. The performance of my manifolds will not be fully apparent until you get to Road America. The competitors in the NE live rac...
