Re: oil cooler
The engine has an oil cooler bypass plate on it. I wonder if I could remove it and use those connections as an alternative to tapping into the oil filter lines. Is one method preferred over the other? According to the engine build list that came with the car, it has a 26 mm oil pump and a oil pressu...

Re: oil cooler
If there is not a danger, I would be interested in the suggested plumbing too. Before or after the filter? If not in series, then how?? Thanks.

oil cooler
My Solo Vee does not have an oil cooler. It does have a remote oil filter, so tapping into a line to add a cooler would be easy. Is an oil cooler recommended? Thanks, Scott

Re: Crankcase ventilation
Thanks Jim. What does windage refer to? That is a new term for me. As far as oil capacity, I am using four quarts of oil. I am running an external oil filter.

Re: Crankcase ventilation
Thanks for the information Brian. The container I used has a 16oz capacity. I drilled a 1/2 inch breather hole in the screw top, with some steel wool like material in the hole to hopefully prevent any potential for oil spraying. It is mounted almost as high as my air filter I did pull the plugs and ...

Re: Crankcase ventilation
I took the advice Lynn. 1/2 inch ID lines off each valve cover to a home-fab catch can. Hope my wife does not go looking for the container of pesticide... it just fit too well not to use!

Crankcase ventilation
I have found that after several successive runs, getting up next to the 7,100 rev. limit results in some white smoke and some oil venting into my vented catch can. Actually, a fair bit of oil. 8 0z. after the last test and tune (12-15 runs). The only crankcase vent line I have runs from the oil fill...

Re: On board camera suggestions
I have a Sony digital camera with a remote lense (on roll bar) and remote mic (in box that holds camera) as well as a switch that allows me to turn on and off the camera since it is located above my legs. Ed I have pretty much the same setup. Ed & Jpetillo, What model Sony camera are you using?

Re: On board camera suggestions
Thanks for all the replies. I think I may give the Hero cam a try. Hopefully I will not run into the same problem that you did Steve.

Re: On board camera suggestions
The Go Pro looks pretty good. Especially for the price. Do any of the mounts allow attachment to a roll bar? It did not appear to have a way to attach it to a traditional camera mount that would screw into the bottom of a camera.

On board camera suggestions
I am looking to upgrade my camera that I use for on board filming. I prefer a small digital camera. The one I have does not have enough image stabilization capabilities for use with the Vee. It worked fine on 'normal' cars, but not enough dampening for clean pictures with this one. Any suggestions w...

Re: Any 1st time Solo Vee AutoX tips?
I am not sure what the gearing difference between a long and short box is. (just a Nubee). I do know that at 7100 RPM in 2nd, I am at 54 mph. 7100 RPM in third is 88 mph. Dave said 4th is a very long gear. Does that sound like a short or long box?? Yep.... I found the understeer limits on the turn a...

Re: Any 1st time Solo Vee AutoX tips?
Hey Lynn, Good luck with the 1915! You are right on the money with my focus for next week. More aggressive on the start and get some room on the top by shifting sooner. It is hard to look at a course and realize that it CAN be run at a higher speed than you thought possible in the 'world before Vee....

Re: Any 1st time Solo Vee AutoX tips?
IT WAS A BLAST!! Everything happens very fast. The guy I bought it from told me the hardest thing would be learning to "trust the grip." He was right. I was able to get in 6 runs. Each time I pushed it harder. It only got a bit squirrely once. So I do have a lot more room to get to the edg...

Re: Any 1st time Solo Vee AutoX tips?
Lynn, the guy I bought this from (Dave Geis, Wichita Ks.) said basically the same thing. He said the hardest part of the learning curve would be learning just how hard you can run through corners. I think it was "Trust the grip" and go! I feel like a kid on Christmas eve. Sunday can't get ...

Re: Any 1st time Solo Vee AutoX tips?
A lot of great advice! Thank you. I bet the feeling of speed really comes through sitting so low. The brakes and speed of turning sound like the big potential gotchas. A full face helmet will be used. Pebbles were hitting me even going slow up our street. I got the seat fitting right last night &...

Any 1st time Solo Vee AutoX tips?
I've checked every nut and bolt, changed all the fluids, set tire pressure per previous owner specs... and stared at it for hours. Now.. it's almost time (this coming Sunday) for my first autocross with the Solo Vee. I have done nothing more than drive it slowly up our street once to check the brake...
