Trailer e-track install - best location for a FV?
After 7 years of towing my race cars with an open trailer, I finally broke down and got an enclosed trailer. I want to install my e-track rails on the trailer floor this weekend and I am wondering what is the best locations for these. I have seen these installed about 6 inch inside of the tires/whee...

Re: Offset Link Pin Bushing Orientation
Dietmar, As always - THANKS VERY MUCH!!! I'll do it today, as I had the whole thing apart to change out the spring pack - mine was bent from the "good old days". When I got the car (it had sat for about 10 years I was told), it had the same size tires front and back, so I think the springs...

Front End Binding - How to check?
Brain (and others),
As a newbie, how would one test the "swing of the legs from bottom to top" to check for binding?
DO you do this without the spring pack installed or with spring pack and no middle grub screw in place?
Thanks for the help.

Re: Engine Tins - Deflector plate needed
Dietmar, Thanks - I think I will cut up an old, crusty pair of these tins that O have and wire tie them in place until I have time to remove the heads and do it "right the first time". The engine that didn't like the rod bearing actually had these tins on the top (non-pushrod) fan side of ...

Re: Engine Tins - Deflector plate needed
The tins that I am asking about are shown on: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=264120&highlight=deflector+plates Part # 5 on the left side is shown, there is a matching tin not shown on the right side. My old engine had these tins on the top of the cylinders and I lost #3 rod bea...

Engine Tins - Deflector plate needed
I have a spare engine that I would like to use in my next vintage event in mid-May (with fan and piston shrouds), but it was assembled before the small, bottom deflector plates (between the cylinders and pushrod tubes) was installed. Do I need these plate installed? If so, I could cut up an old set ...

Don, You got it right.. There is "some trees, hale bays, storm drains, light poles and animals on the course. And don't forget the 3 ft thick stone walls with the rounded top stones - looks nice at below 35 mph, you don't notice them over 50 mph. It's just like the good old days!!! We are told ...

Re: Autodynamics Advice
Dietmar: I think you suggested the improvements awhile ago and I heeded them. I upgraded to a new style fuel pump and eliminated the intermediate solid line shown. I now have braided line from the cell to the pump and then to the carb. I do have hose clamps on the pump lines - is there a better alte...

Re: Autodynamics Advice - Carb Inlet Fitting
I'm getting the car all ready for my first outing and I'd like to replace the fuel line to the carb inlet. You can see it in the 3rd pix from the bottom of this thread on page one. The fitting looks like a standard 1/2 pipe thread with coarse threads, but it is tappered and I can not find a replacem...

Don, Great looking car. Can you provide more info on the seat? It looks interesting. And did you modify the mirrors? I have those style but would like to get some more space as you did out from the body. Your profile does not have you location, but your Formcar is eligible for the VSSCA (VSSCA.org) ...

Re: Road & Track FV Article - Look at this drawing!
I'd pay $25-30 for a nice poster of this and $19 for a t-shirt. I think these are the going prints on the website. You just need to find a teenager in the neighborhood - look for the one with no suntan lines on his arms. I had one fix my PC and gave him $20. He now stops by to see how it's running a...

Re: Road & Track FV Article - Look at this drawing!
Steve, I'm not sure how the cafepress.com works, but I did just recently purchase a AutoDynamics FV t-shirt from them. It came in 2 days and the quality was good for $15. I would for sure purchase this article (or parts of it) as a poster, t-shirt, coffee mug, etc. May be a way for you to get reimbu...

Re: Front beam Spring Pack question
Lawrence and Dietmar, Thanks. I think you have answered my questions. I will look closely tonight when I get home, but on the left side I'm sure I only have 6 leaves (4 whole in the middle of the stack and 2 halfs on the end). On the RH (good) side, I think the half leaves are wider - I think someon...

Front beam Spring Pack question

Re: Front suspension crack testing?
Also - anyone have a pic of the tethers?
I just finished dye testing the spindle and all look good. Much heavier than the spindles in my old AH bugeye suspended 1956 Turner.
I also ran the spindle spacer and would love to buy a set for the FV.

Re: Fuel testing rules
For a newbie, only wishing to run mid-pack in vintage just for the sake of having fun with old cars, can I run regular pump gas (87 or 92 octane) from a reputable dealer?

Re: On board camera suggestions
Jim, Do the memory cards provide more filming without the need to download at a race. For example, if I got a camera and 3 cards, would that provide for recording 6 - 20 min long sessions? Sorry for the stupid question, but I'm not real high tech and would love to be able to record video cheaply but...

Front suspension crack testing?
I'm moving from a Austin Healey Bugeye to a FV for vintage racing and I always did a winter crack test on the BE spindles and all other front suspension pieces. The BEs have a known weakness in their spindles and even uprated ones cracked over time - it was just a matter of monitoring them and repla...

American Racers???
Seems like Dunlops have the vintage, Monoposto legal sizes.
Anyone have experience with American Racers? Seems like they are often the spec tires for FF and FV in some parts of the country. Hints during a web search, seem like pricing may be around half that of Dunlops and Hoosiers.

Dunlops v Hoosier
I asked SRacing for a whole list of parts pricing today, including tires. I have heard that the Dunlops are faster, but not that the Hoosiers last longer (this is imoprtant to me). What's the consensus? If we're talking 1 s a lap or less, then I'll go for the longer lasting of the two. I'm looking f...
