Re: Max HP from a 1915cc Solo Vee motor?
Sounds pretty close. We have a 1915 on the dyno as we speak. Scat cam similar to a mild street cam or W-110, same heads, dual Web 40's. (straight up cam timing). CR=~8:1. Getting 124 at ~5000 RPM. (Engine dyno) Probably 115+ on an engine dyno with a typical Vee drive train.

Re: Max HP from a 1915cc Solo Vee motor?
We have built and dyno'd a few dozen motors in the 1900- 2300 cc area. Tell me what the rules are for induction and cam and I can tell you pretty close to what it would be.

>>one from the negative (ground), and one to ground through the ignition switch.<<
The slip on spade type connector should go to the starter switch through it to 12V. IE when 12V is applied to that connector the solenoid activates and starts the starter.

Re: What type of fuel to run
I would agree on the better quality and less compounds left from AV Gas. However, it has less BTU, designed for engines with peak RPM of 2500-3000 RPM (low piston speed ), and was designed for high altitudes. Your engine makes its peak HP at 5000 RPM and above. A typical aircraft engine is designed ...

Re: What type of fuel to run
Pump premium is fine. More than enough octane and more BTU than race fuels. (100/110 etc.) The cell manufactures have told me at PRI that 10% ethanol is ok. They said that they have some people running E85 but do not suggest it. Another problem also is that on SG tests we have done here and from wha...

Brian, I think this is it. However it does sound like "removable cockpit padding " would allow for this. G.7. Bodywork and Airfoils Bodywork and airfoils are unrestricted within the following limitations: A. Cockpit Opening: The driver’s seat shall be capable of being entered without the r...

What Dietmar said.. Also if you got a Girling off Ebay for <$50 it is used... I would consider a new Wilwood for under $40 or even a new Girling for under $70 first. Again all available from us suppliers at the top of the page.

Re: Brake thought for the month
We take an old screw driver, bend the shank and shape the blade. Works ok. I am sure there are probably some generic adjuster tools still around at the auto stores.
But we have more old screwdrivers than money, so that is what we do.

Dietmar is still correct. If you are cooling from the top, you want the deflectors in place.

Re: Formula Vee SOLO questions
Speaking about the engine…which would be better for autocross? 1.Dual Carbs 2.1951cc I don't know all the rules for FV in Solo. But, there will be no "better". The smaller engine with the duals is going to produce it's peak HP in the ~5500+ RPM area. The 1951 will do it in the ~5100 area....

Re: Current Draw
If you are going to apply a RTV to the screw or connection for your wire, do not use a type that is corrosive, as most typically are. Open the tube and smell it, and it has a "vinegar" smell to it, than that is the one you do not want to use. The smell is acetic acid that is expelled duri...

Re: Current Draw
Barry's and Steve's are right. :) Another dynamic issue that comes into play though: These measurements are fine for statically testing the coil, and if they are right, the coil will probably fire a plug. However, as compression goes up in the cylinder it requires more voltage to fire the plug. When...

Re: Current Draw
Does anyone knows the current draw from the coil? I saw for an MSD coil a quote suggesting that the ignition will draw 1 amp per 2 thousand RPM for a 4 cylinder. That would suggest 3.5 - 4 A max for us. Would this be the right ballpark number for our Bosch coils? An average of that would be close, ...

The white ones popped up inside the heads about 3 times, always when I wasn't paying attention in the initial stages of torquing the heads. Or I should say in the first stage where you pre-tension the studs just after you install the head and the tubes. Strange. The white seals are silicone and the...

Re: Axle Tube work
The pin punches out pretty easily. The place where the pin pricks are is normally the top. So punch from the other side. Use a good size drift pin punch and a good size hammer and 1 or 2 licks usually does it. Pulling the cast flange part off the tube is a bit harder. We have a puller for this so it...

Again, member input is requested. A ball joint beam in itself would not be any advantage. They are heavier, less aerodynamic,...
