Re: April Minutes
, I do not think the committee should be an advocacy group unless charged with a specific task by the class. For the most part, I agree. Steering boxes are hardly an issue of concern at this point. They are cheap, plentiful and as you point out can be adjusted to be fine in most all cases. However,...

Re: Shipping information
If you are shipping to an Engine builder or business. Check with them first. They may have a special account. We have an account with FedEx Freight and all our inbound and outbound shipments are 55% off the standard tariff rate. You just drop it off at the carrier and use the builders account number...

All engines produce HP based upon how much air/fuel charge you can get into them. The 1200 acvw engine with funny looking manifold and 28pci carb is severly limited by it's abilty to get that charge (called pumping losses and volumetric efficiency.). On any engine (and this one in particular), it st...

Valve Lash Adjusting.
I don't think I have posted this here before, but... I often see guys struggling with 3 arms, a flashlite, feeler gauges, screwdriver and 13mm wrench to adjust the lash. It can be a lot easier than that. The valve adjust screws are 1mm per thread. Or one full turn of the adjuster is 1mm of lash. You...

Some blatent advertising: We all have had flashlights banging around the tool box somewhere and when we go to use it to adjust brakes, check fuel levels, etc. we find it's not bright enough or needs batteries. Check out the "CSI Edge". VERY Bright, batteries last for hours and hours and it...

Make Weight
The weight discussion is long past, but.. If you want to drop 10+ lbs immediately and safely, take a look at the Shorai Lithiom Ion batteries. Easily fits your existing battery compartment and even comes with padding blocks for fitment.

This is for a trophy guys. You aren't making a living at it and don't need a win to protect your livelyhood. This is simply a protest/race enforcement issue. (BTW, I did NOT see the issue being discussed.)

Re: Brake question of the month
What you are doing should put you close to right. However the final adjustment has to be done on the track. Your spring rate, center of gravity and track/tire conditions will play a role. You should be able to lock up the fronts before the rears. If the rears lock up first, the car will be ill handl...

Rear Axle Nuts
For 20 plus years, I have had only one axle nut come loose and ruin the splines on the drum. However, it seems I am hearing about a lot of these failures recently. What I have always done (since my first failure): Tighten to 325+lbs. Check for the alignment of the cotter pin. If needed, I tightend m...

I thought they did a fantastic job. I heard the normal grumbling about the volunteer workers flexing their "authority", but that comes with the SCCA, The grouping of the FST's alone was assumedly done because they had plenty of time and didn't want to possibly screw up the Brundage C...

I saw them mounting tires all weekend? one of the drivers with me got tires that weren't pre ordered To clarify.. That was not Hoosier (per se') , that was Appalachian Tire. They are Hoosier dealers just like us. They had ordered the last ones that Hoosier had in stock. That is why I was out. Hoosi...

Re: The 50th and Fuel ?
I think its about the LEAD, What do you think? Not sure of what you mean. If you mean people get Avgas for its lead content you may be right. (But it is still the wrong choice.) Lead (in fuel) is a octane improver and a lubricant of sorts. A fuel rated at 93 octane is 93 octane whether it has lead ...

Re: The 50th and Fuel ?
With some caveats: Avgas SG is typically .70 to .71. Pump premium varies seasonally but typical summer gas is .75. The formula for changing jets is NewSG - OldSG/ NewSG. So a ~ a 5% larger flowing jet would be required when going from Avgas to Pump. Herein are some problems: You can not depend on th...

Re: The 50th and Fuel ?
While on the subject.... Why are some running av gas in a relatively stock ACVW engine? It is a high octane (100) slow burning fuel meant for under 4000 RPM at high altitudes. (Actually it is NOT 100 octane(RON+MON/2) using the automotive measurements. It is measured at different intake pressu...

Re: Front Wheel bearings
I would just tighten to insure the seating and then back off till you feel ANY play. Even 1/8 of a turn on the axle nut will introduce plenty of play.

Wow Barry, you are really into the details. I simply preload them to make sure they are set and then back them off till I can just move the trust washer. They spin fine and I have never lost a wheel bearing (or axle). We check the wheel movement after a session. Frankly with all the slop in a ...

Re: Max HP from a 1915cc Solo Vee motor?
If solo FF rules are the same as Road Racing FF's ; A decent FF puts down about 110 HP to the rear wheels. (Not at the shop to look at the chassis dyno stuff, but I am pretty sure that is close) A FF with straight cut gears has the potential to put a little more HP to the wheels than a Vee. A FV tra...
