the incredible shrinking megaphone
110 octane leaded fuel, midrange carb and manifold, autowerks engine, Daytona, EGT reading under 1400@wot @6100 rpm (I think). Exhaust megaphone ended up about 4 inches shorter than it was and appeared "burnt." Any suggestions would be appreciated. John Viusta Bushwacker w/autowerks engine...

Re: Wobble?
Thanks to everybody. It worked. Front end had dead Fox shocks, replaced with stock VW. Tighten up kingpins, a little too much (will be better next race). The wobble started this time from REAR end. Adjusted the toe in more the first time, less the second time and a little for the half hour race shor...

Re: Wobble?
Keep the suggestions coming! I will be addressing the front end before I go out June 4/5 at Sebring. We will also be looking at the brakes. $$$$ says stock VW shoes and a regrind on existing brake drums with a look at the cylinder(s). Thanks to everybody. In defense of the group of "tech" ...

Wobble?
OK, after the trip to tech to have my suspension "looked at." I am willing to put up with the suggestions that will be offered here. Daytona, May 7/8 other than the "other" problems we had, tires, carb linkage, shifter linkage, REALLY bad tires and, oh yeah, brakes. The tech insp...

Halon system
Does anyone, within driving distance of Tampa FL, have a halon onboard fire system they would be interested in letting go, cheap? My system has been kicked getting into the car too many times. The gauge reads really really low (too low to pass tech) and I don't have enough in the racing acct to spen...

Halon system
So I can take a breath again, will someone tell me where I can get a halon onboard fire extinguisher system recharged? I understand the importance of the system and do not want to pay as much as $500 for a whole system when all I need is the gauge to read "green" instead of "almost&qu...

Re: oil filler oil leak
Thanks for the heads up about HF. Will get one the next time I'm there. Fix "kinda" worked. Finished regional race. Need to work on sump leak, but engine seems OK.

Re: oil filler oil leak
Didn't work! This time I put a push rod tube seal on the threaded part, put RTV "stuff on gen stand and wrenched it down pretty tight. Will try to do regional race in about a half an hour. Thanks for listening and helping.

Re: oil filler oil leak
Lefty loosey, righty tighty. Placed large screw driver in groove and hit screw driver with hammer. It finally moved. Took it off, cleaned it and gen stand best I could. Coated gen stand, oilfiller device and the "lock nut" with form-a-gasket and put it back together. Will let it sit tonigh...

oil filler oil leak
Anybody got a quick-fix for getting the oil filler device off of a vw generator stand. NOT the oil filler cap, what the cap attaches to. I have a spare, at home, but I want to stop oil leak from this now, at Sebring. Sorry about no pix. It looks like a screwdiver with about a 1 1/4 inch blade might ...

Then come on down, CFRSCCA.ORG will give schedule. Daytona AND Sebring are great places to race and right now we don't have to race with SRF.

Re: HAPPY NEW YEAR
We just had 2 national races in sunny Florida and will have 2 more this weekend! Regional racing starts the weekend after US Thanksgiving and continues in February. I guess that's why we pay obscene taxes in Florida. Come south and extend your racing.

A door-slammer IT driver "friend" of mine once suggested that I get a package of straws for blowing up and maintaining tire pressure in my "go-kart" FV.

Come to Sunny Sebring this weekend for the Turkey Trot. Or, the Quad national in January. CFRSCCA.org will give you our schedule. And, I do build my own engines. I don't run up front, but, we have a lot of fun. My son co-drives with me at Sebring and Daytona, my wife supports our racing "effort...

Re: Brazil VW Pistons & Cylinders
That day when EVERYTHING goes right (engine, suspension setup, tires, brakes (even though my son says he doesn't use them) and my driving ability is up to par) is going to feel really good. Until then, I am going to continue to spend countless hours at a hobby that I enjoy, building the engine for m...

Re: pistons
Didn't want to start people thinking I was going to do black magic on a regional engine! Just wanted to get some idea of what to do with the pistons. It looks like pistons, rings (didn't want to pull them off) and wrist pin come in at 406 gm +/- 0.5 gm. I think that is probably "balanced. They ...

What is a reasonable weight for a vee piston (1200)? How do I tell if I have "dykes" rings? Which groove(s) should I use for things like oil rings? Could someone post a picture of a "properly set up" piston?
Thanks

Re: Front Impact Attenuation
I had a chance meeting with 2 SRF'S one February at Sebring out of turn17. My throttle cable broke and I had 1000 rpm and third gear. Made a "rookie" mistake in NOT turning left on entrance to 17, if I had the Zink would still be intact, but, life goes on. The first one hit me as we exited...

Thanks to all. I think the leak has been found. Filled crankcase up with oil and cranked up engine. Valve cover gasket was leaking like a sieve. Will seal the gaskets to the VC's and try again. Thanks for not laughing!

I have had good luck with this area before, so, I'll try again. Kept going out of time and causing rea...

All 6 of us showed up. John Fuch was of course fast, Harry was almost as fast, our car gave us problems so didn't get to see Mike, Ray or Duke very much. Weather was typical Florida summer. Looking forward to June. Short track, Sebring. June 5 and 6, come on down!

head gasket?
This may sound "dumb," and I am willing to listen to the laughter, but... I don't remember removing a "head gasket" on any of the vee engines I have rebuilt (up to 4 now due to "dumb" mistakes). Do we need to actually have a "head gasket" between the jugs and ...
