Re: 600 cc MC engines in F Mod
"Art, I think the two stroke CVT combination will always have an advantage for the first 150 to 200 feet. I don't think the MC engined cars will ever be able to make it up. " Yes, and off the corners too. We agree that the 2 cycles have and will have the advantage for the near term. Howeve...

Re: 600 cc MC engines in F Mod
Arthur, IMO, you are correct in that these folks that have promoted the MC engine in F5 are trying to get away from the spec class concept and they will make this entry level racing class more expensive. There are 4 MC 600cc engines listed as legal in the class for 2011 if this proposal get past the...

600 cc MC engines in F Mod
Guys, if any of you read the minutes of the CRB in the last FASTRACK, you will have noted that they have recommended to the BOD that 600cc MC engines be allowed in F5; the mostly equivalent class to F Mod in the racing program. For us, that means that if the BOD approves that recommendation this Fal...

Hi Johnny, No need to cool my jets, I'm not angry or upset with anyone  although I just got finished answering you with a long winded response only to lose everything due to some web page error. Now, that does make me mad  . Anyway, trying to reconstruct things, let me say that I enjoy con...

Right back at ya   "Do you remember what it is like to have seasons? " I think so but then again being my age, sometimes I can't remember if yesterday happened  . But I don't live in a state anymore that is $9+ billion in the hole . NY is already known as the land of t...
Re: F500 mods
Hi Arthur, How's the weather up there? Let's answer the easy one first: yes, roll bar padding would be necessary anywhere a helmet could touch the roll bar structure. Cutting of the bodywork: Since the GCR says that the chassis needs to be covered by bodywork, you have to make a decision on, i...
Re: F500 mods
OK, since Arthur asked for my input, here goes and I'll try to remember all issues mentioned :--). First and foremost since I am no longer Chair of the MAC or sit on that committee, I can not give an "official" answer. However, that being said, I did write most of the rules that you are re...

If you check the back of the book for class champions, you might find that Bill Goodell had 3 B Modified National Championships in the late '70 s with his Deserter dune buggy :--).

Youse guys need to move further south . CFR has staged 4 events so far with a 5th coming this weekend . The only weather related question we have had is whether to wear shorts or not .

Re: Why Is the F5 Faster
Bob, I really don't think the carb change had any noticable affect. I never dynoed my engine with either carb in place so I can't be definitive on that. All I can say is it never felt like it made a difference. From much earlier comments about the 2 carbs, for our purposes, the folks that supposedly...

Re: Why Is the F5 Faster
Lynn, Yes, a rear suspension re-design is always in play although there has never been a major breakthrough in that area. New ideas come along constantly but nothing works for everybody it seems  . I re-did the rear suspension on my car last year, different design and much softer. I lost most o...

Re: Why Is the F5 Faster
Johnny, Sorry to hear that you are still unemployed. I hope your prospects pay out in 2010. Down here in Florida things are pretty dismal. Glad to hear that you believe the new allowances have helped your car competitively. That's what the MAC has been looking for. Now all that remains is to find ou...

Re: Why Is the F5 Faster
Lynn, Did they tell you what makes them faster? Give me something to work with here. As you know, the SRs follow the GCR very closely. There have been no new GCR rules for F5 in the last few years either, other then what I've mentioned in my earlier post. As you know, I'm closely involved with...

Re: Why Is the F5 Faster
Back in 1995 when F Mod was created, I was not in favor of the Solo Vees being included in the class for the exact reason you mention: two completely different type vehicles that would make parity difficult. It has proven to be true unfortunately. And now "they", the CRB, are comtemplating...

Re: Why Is the F5 Faster
Hmmmmm. I find this interesting that you guys believe that the F4/5s have gotten faster in the last few years. Interesting because there have been no rule changes that that I can think of that would support those thoughts. True we have legalized the 493 and the 494 Rave motors but looking at the res...

Re: Legends cars in FM
HP by itself isn't their problem. It's the short wheelbase coupled with their narrow track that will keep them from handling well around the cones. I guess I should also add that their weight and height doesn't help much either  . They're just not a good autox package. Wider wheels, slicks and ...

Re: Legends cars in FM
Locally, many regions run them in F MOD now. Their short wheelbase and lack of good rubber make them somewhat of a handful on an autox course, at least the ones that I've seen anyway. They need some help if they are to be a factor in the class but that can come as SCCA sees them compete. I'm not opp...

Re: SEB or MAC??
Johnny and other interested parties  , The rules season, as it is affectionately known by racers and Soloists, ends around June 1st of each year. That means that any request for a rules change needs to be in the hands of the CRB/SEB/MAC prior to that date. This is so it can be published in FAST...

Ok, let me add to the comments that Arthur made since I have been around since the beginning of time 8) and was involved from then to now. Perhaps some of you may care and some may not, but this is how it went down  . Back in the ‘70s, Formula Vees ran in what then was C MOD. They ran with the ...

Arthur,
By all means, submit your index suggestion to the MAC/SEB. But I'll bet you a NY bagel with lox, it won't fly.
