Re: The 50th and Fuel ?

Before I switched to E10 street gas, I used http://www.100ll.com/ to find avg while traveling. Use Google satellite to evaluate the easy of access.

Follow your planned route on Google map looking for small airfields and then look them up.

Re: Front Wheel bearings

I am unable to find the kinematic viscosity value for the redline products, it doesn't seem to be published, only the viscosity index and CCS. I would agree that it could be a much lower value on the front with the loading and speed we see in FV. I am not sure how to get lower without a mixture, or...

Re: Front Wheel bearings

If you read my opening question you will note we used to mix grease and STP to get a mixture that would stay in place for at least a weekend. Not sure how many people did that but I got it from someone else. It worked, at least I never had a bearing go bad and it *seemed" pretty free. Oil, lik...

If you get the right combo of shims you can get rid of the rocking motion. Just make sure it does not drag, or you are giving up speed.... 1) Why is it that all bearing manufacturers specify bearing pre-load with such bearing setups? Why is it that NASCAR teams send all their hubs to Timken to have...

Re: February minutes

Currently, the FV rules do not allow for any removable device other than a steering wheel to facilitate driver egress. I do not believe this is a true statement. Can you specify where this is stated? I would claim that the steering wheel must be in place when testing/demonstrating this part of the ...

Re: Brake thought for the month

This all sounds very attractive to future FV participants. 1) Learn how to adjust your drum brakes every other session. 2) Rotated your brake shoes every race weekend to help extend the life of your $130-150, front only, brake shoes. Now this sounds all very enticing, particularly for those that are...

As I posted on Apex in response to non-FV competitor's perplexition over the response to this subject: "It would seem that the 'principles' or 'philosophies' of FV are a little vague. Someone observing from outside the very 'friendly' FV community might view the subject as a political method of...

BTW ...... Mike K, as any of the manifold makers, was quite capable of making monster mannies before there was such a scam. He chose not to. He was servicing the FV community, not screwing it! Wheel cover ban

There is a rumor going around that there is an effort to ban the inside wheel covers found on the Runoffs winning car. Are any insiders willing to make a statement on the status of this effort? Is there going to be any competitor input or is this just going to be a one sided affair?

Derek Harding is out. We had to make a decision on Sunday. We needed a dry day on Friday to learn the track and that was just not looking probable. Under the current forecast we would have to cross the storm to get to the track from CA. That does not look too appealing with an RV & trailer and t...

More info is needed about your program. If you are not the most competitive driver/car combination or new to the track, then a SB is fine. You will not be drafting by anyone into Canada which is the only spot the a short box is a disadvantage. If your engine/exhaust has a bias to the low end of the ...

1) Plug hole: At this point if might be best to have the plug hole welded and re-tapped.

2) It would be my opinion that the metal deformation around the valve spring seat is from the springs not having enough pressure. They are going into an oscillation and moving around.

Re: Gearbox lube

Reline specifies Superlight as 70W/75W. The viscosity is actually 1/3 that of 75W90. It is the lowest viscosity gear lubricant available I believe. My research indicates that a FV gearbox will hold up with an oil 1/2 the viscosity of Redline Superlight. Lower viscosity means less power loss but more...

There is no dynamic reason for the axles to be of equal weight. So that is not going to fly, but you could balance each individual axle as an individual spinning system. Just the same as balancing the wheel assemblies.
