Re: Why is the Sky Blue?

I will offer an opinion about the technical merits of a restrictor plate .... going back to the question above. I have raced in the American Formula FST class and read comments from the Ossie FV (1600) engine tuners who also use restrictor plates much like we do. The restrictor plate reduces the hor...

Re: Extended sump question

Here is a pic of the 1.5 quart which I used for a season on my FST car. Please note that this is illegal for FV. I bought it 2nd-hand (but probably never used) on ebay. It was a nice unit and I had no problems with it or my engine oiling. I also had no problems with the smaller FV style sump and muc...

Re: New manifold rules in GCR

As this thread stands, in order to form an opinion, one would have to find a GCR, find and interpret the existing rule, then find wherever fastrack or other official SCCA posting has the proposed changes, and interpret those. This may take 5 mins or hours depending on the person. Many would then wan...

Re: FLOORS!

I like to sit a piece of thin stainless steel under my butt. I do not secure it to anything but let tape or the seat pieces hold it in place. If something tries to come up through the aluminum, it pushes the ss panel up ..... usually my belts and my butt absorb the movement and the SS panel is not p...

Re: Cracked case

How good is your engine? How much money do you have to spend on your racing? Is it a DIY engine or do you pay someone to do your engine work? I would spend $100 with a good welder and get the case repaired if it is a decent case otherwise. I have seen this done several times with no problems .... bu...

Andy, Ray Carmody does FV rentals ar Watkins Glen and other tracks in our area. He is several hours south in Horseheads and is a member on the forum. As of today, I have a starter FV for sale in the Niagara area. It is not a bad area for SCCA racing .... only 1 track real close but a bunch within 5 ...

Re: Motorcycle Ring Usage

I would suggest that people ask their engine builder about this topic and the 1200/1300 pistons that Mike talked about in the other thread. These would seem to be separate issues but Mike seemed to be connecting the two. I asked two engine builders about these 1200/1300 pistons that Mike was using a...

Please excuse my ignorance, but I am sure that others may have the same questions. These may be old questions but I have not seen them discussed here before. I am not attacking anyone but trying to understand the issue.. Why not use the original style 1200 pistons which rings are available for? Is t...

Re: Head and neck systems ... request for input

Brian, I own a FV. I just spent the last 4 hours working on it. My suggestion was to write a rule to stop the latest "new" trick. I never said anything about stopping the use of spacers, just writing a rule to restrict the "latest" expensive updates while allowing what has been u...

Re: Head and neck systems ... request for input

This skinny ring deal is in it's infancy. NOW is the time to stop it. Having a few guys (probably the elite guys that spend to be elite) pull heads and cylinders to re-ring now is absolutely preferable to having a "ring update" that brings everybody back to the "status quo" after...

Why not put in minimum ring width rules to freeze the technology to what is currently being used?

Re: Dec fastrack - roll bar fairings...

BTW .... I modified my D-13 bodywork in 1986. Took me about 10 minutes and I never had to worry about my car getting trashed when on the hook. This allowed me to spend more time trashing it before it went on the hook.

Re: Dec fastrack - roll bar fairings...

This is long overdue. With the cost of tracktime and financial challenges met by organizers and racers alike ..... one extra lap of full-course caution caused because someone's car cannot be lifted quickly ..... is one lap too many. When a car is stuck in a sand-trap, often the driver is in a safer ...

Re: December Racecar Engineering Magazine and Vees

My point was .... The tech people were not harassing down-force generating bodywork under the assumption it was homologated bodywork. I am not questioning the actual Citation "brewer" side pod but the giant gurneys that were run by some. It was just one of those wacky SCCA ordeals. People ...

Re: December Racecar Engineering Magazine and Vees

Question: Were the Brewer side pods ever homologated for the Citation FV? Sometime at the Runoffs (late 90s) when the tech guys were making people cut off any "wing-type" fairings, the Citations (Brewer pods with 1" Gurneys) were spared the trouble because they were homologated body p...

Wanted LYNX Rear Suspension

I gave away or virtually gave away several Lynx rear suspension assemblies over the years. Now, I need one back!

Rear subframe, shocks, springs, Z-bar,? Iam looking to make it original again.

I have various stuff available to trade including a zero-roll Lynx setup.

Fuel tanks?

Please excuse my ignorance, but are fuel cells required for solo competition with formula classes? I road-raced for years in Canadian FV, FF, F2000 and never used a cell. It has been required for several years now in Canada, so I have a collection of perfectly good tanks. It is a shame that they are...
