Re: December Racecar Engineering Magazine and Vees

Yep . . . like that . . . .except with the wind blowing! I'd cough up a cold one for some action shots. I put yarn on a Silver Crown car once. They are about as aerodynamic as a Vee. No tunnel, had to photograph it on the track. Always wanted to turn the headers around, and dump the collecto...

Re: December Racecar Engineering Magazine and Vees

Bill, yeah . . something like that. The lights in the background that I guess are meant to back light the smoke, obliterate the cockpit area, but at least it is clear that the smoke is turbulent behind the car. The smoke is pretty cool, but tufts of yarn all over the car would provide lots of inform...

Re: December Racecar Engineering Magazine and Vees

I at first I found it hard to swallow that the beam fairings added drag and lift . . . . So I actually read the article. It no longer seems unreasonable. The beam and suspension shoves a lot of air around. I stand by my belief that the beam and front suspension are aero nightmares, and that the beam...

Re: December Racecar Engineering Magazine and Vees

I'll pretend I know something . . . A round tube has something like 10 times the drag of a like sized streamlined tube. Modern open wheel cars employ streamlining to every chunk (a-arms, tie rods, etc. even brake hoses are inside the arms) of suspension exposed to the air. That suggests to me that e...

my new site

I have begun a new web site that will contain some stuff related to a Vee I built, some of my thoughts about things related to both FV and FST chassis/suspensions, and it will follow construction of my FST. Sorry about mentioning FST on this board 8) , but FV and FST share many similarities, so the ...

Re: trailing or leading arm rear suspension?

Here’s some stuff to ponder. Non of this should be accepted as fact. The main fact to be found in this thread is that leading arms, as Greg states, continue to win the run offs, and they have won the bulk of races in FST (his car). For equal brake torque, a shorter control arm applies a greater lo...

Re: Clutch Operating Arm

I wrapped some steel around a stock arm, as in the photo. The other bracket, at the fixed end, uses the stock cable boss. It allows some adjustment in length, as well as rotates to align the cylinder with the arm. A cylinder that pulls at an angle, or pivots that don't work smoothly just add effort ...
