Re: Different needle bearings on front beam

Hi Barry: Thanks for the reply. Did you notice how the "bearing housing" is different? In the first picture (black beam) the housing is in one piece. In the second picture it seems to have been cut and another piece welded to extend it (grey beam). These 2 beams seem of different manufactu...

Carbon fiber monocoque chassis

Hi:

I was looking for pictures of H-beams and stumbled into this:

http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthr ... tid=157400

Apart from the use of a carbon fiber monocoque, there's interesting solutions for the front and rear suspensions.

At least, I found it to be interesting to read.

Re: Different needle bearings on front beam

Hi: Thanks for the replies, I am just about to go to the shop and build a "bearing puller". Thanks for pointing out the pictures, this helps. I guess there is nothing to hold the bearing from stopping from sliding in? How did the bearing end up sliding in? Would it be because it was wrongl...

Different needle bearings on front beam

Hi: I've got 2 front beams and they seem to have different needle bearings, or different needle bearing housing (not sure this is the right term). The first picture below shows that the needle bearing is flush with the housing. Second pictures shows that the bearing seems to be sunk... or the housin...

Re: Wheel speed sensor

Aren't new GPS based units more accurate though? My old GPS unit was home built and I didn't massage much of the GPS data. GPS update rate was 10Hz, speed consistency was ok (no jumps when the unit was acquiring 5 satellites or more) but I had nothing to compare against. I'm getting a new unit that ...

Re: Spindle locking nuts

Hi Brian: I'm not too familiar with the VW parts, except from what came with my car. Whether it's chromoly or steel is good for me, as long as they don't get damaged like the aluminum did. Are these the original steel nuts? http://www.cip1.ca/SearchResults.asp?Search=VWC-131-405-669 Somehow they are...

Hi Brian: Thanks for the reply. Like you said, the descriptions can be misleading. Are these the only German drums on the page I pointed to: http://www.cip1.ca/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=VWC-211-501-615-AGR Even on sale it seems a bit expensive... Jean Note that the seller says "or equivale...

Re: Wheel speed sensor

Hi Scott: Thanks for the illustrated reply. Do you combine the 2 speed readings at all? If so, what logic do you use? Thanks, Jean I don't like the GPS speed because it seems to lag when the car is in the corners. However, I will admit that the GPS speed is nice to have as a backup when the wheel sp...

Back to rear drum part numbers CIP lists this:

Could somebody confirm this is the type to get (BDC markings)? http://www.cip1.ca/ProductDetails.asp?P ... -501-615-D

Re: Spindle locking nuts

Hi Barry: Thanks for the reply. I do use the spindle bushings from PP. I guess I'll be waiting for the chromoly version to get back in stock. Wheel speed sensor

Hi: My car came with a Hall effect type wheel speed sensor, which I believe is for an AIM system. I haven't really used it because I'm using a GPS based data logging system that provides the actual travelling speed at 20Hz. Is there any benefit using 1 wheel speed sensor over the GPS speed? Or even ...

Re: Minimum front ride height

Back in 2000 I worked as a summer student in the former Formula 1 team Prost Grand Prix. I witnessed mechanics measuring the height of the center of gravity of the F1 car, by raising either end of the car and measuring the weight on each axle. It's a fairly easy procedure, If you have scales and a w...

Re: Minimum front ride height

Hi Brian: Thanks for the reply. Yes your reply helps, since I was looking for a minimum ride height number, thank you for providing one. Re: Minimum front ride height

When I say ride height change, I mean change of distance between the bottom of the frame (belly pan) to the ground. My understanding is that is pretty much the same on all cars (even if the beam is mounted at different heights with regards to the bottom of the frame), since we all have the same spri...

Minimum front ride height

Hi:

What is the minimum recommended front ride height? I guess this is somehow car dependent, but under breaking, what is a typical front ride height change?

Thanks,
