We have always had thin manifolds. So after fifty years you are still expecting a manifold to cause a fire?

Re: FV Intake Manifold Rules Clarification July 2016

For those out there who do not have an understanding of FV manifolds: The manifold thickness is controlled or dictated by the weight limit. No fire has ever been ...

Re: FV Intake Manifold Rules Clarification July 2016

All this discussion about color is a misdirection. The real question that we should be asking is, "is the coating being used to mask outside removal of material ?" No... The real question: What is the purpose of NOT allowing the removal of material from the exterior? The removal of materi...

Or the fact that Tech is being asked to measure to the .001" accuracy on a curved surface. Generally micrometers are used to measure to the accuracy of .001". I know that most micrometers read to .001" BUT you do not see the crankshaft for example being checked with calipers. So why i...

Re: Formula Vee chassis

This is a very creative rear spring system. Similar to the mono-shock systems found on some formula cars and the Speedsport FV which use shuttle systems with linear bearings. The design pictured would be simpler to fabricate although the push rod rocker in single shear is major flaw. A system like t...

It has been pretty well explained in previous posts. If you missed it... the CRB has stated in Fastrack that it is legal to machine the bosses to any dimension. They intend to standby that opinion/interpretation.

Re: Machined Valve Guide Bosses

Most of the head is un-techable as there are no stated dimensions for most of the machined surfaces. Practically speaking we can only set new dimensions after someone is 'discovered' to have done something creative. From what I sampled... all the bosses are machined. I would venture to say one cutte...

Politics - There is someone in the CRB system that supports (requires?) the machined valve guide solution.

Un-techable

"Since many heads came from VW with this area already machined and since there is no dimension for the
valve guide, the area is un-techable."

This is a CRD quote from the June Fastrack Prelims.

How many other areas of a Formula Vee are un-techable?

Re: Machined Valve Guide Bosses

The June Fastrack Prelim states that the CRB is going to look at the subject of a minimum valve spring ID.

They are going to retain the legality of machining the valve guide bosses.

The manual represents one man's opinion about the FV rules in the 70's. There are procedures described that are still valid but what is the point if current tech personal do not follow the same procedures.

1) Exactly what section of the rules authorized the machining of the heads... other than the combustion chamber.. in your opinion? Re: Machined Valve Guide Bosses

The issue is that there are a number of heads in service that have valve guide bosses that were machined in violation of the rules. Why were the rules changed if this is not the case? Must have been some 'doubt' in someones mind? The FV Committee came up with a valid proposal that will allow the use...

I should also state that in all probability there will not be any tire contingencies. This seems to be the current SCCA position relative to spec tires and Hoosier says prices can be reduced if there are no contingencies.

You're blowing smoke..... 1) Over .100" of material/diameter is being removed to fit the small beehive springs. Is it your position that the dimension tolerance of the bosses can be off as much as .100"? What is your level of tolerance with any dimension on the engine that you feel gives y...

This ship has sailed. We are beyond discussion and compromise. You must have been on vacation when this all went down. Machined Valve Guide Bosses

Interesting how the CRB can just change a rule without member input or BRD review. I wonder if there are not some CBD members with a vested interest in this subject? Maybe the CRB discussion was a little twisted? Some are going to say this is a clarification of the machining of existing machined sur...

The CRB has made the recommendation to proceed with a FV Spec Tire based on the results from the survey. That was a while ago so hopefully SCCA has issued a RFP to all the manufactures by now.

Re: January Committee Minutes

This is a discussion about valve springs. Your mention of the rockers is just your attempt to justify the use of springs with an ID that requires the bosses to be machined. Discussing what you do with rockers is pointless.

Get the right springs and move on the next development.
