Blytheville National Tour

Well, I was the only FM there so my no talent self won. Right after the fourth heat finished a mini-hurricane hit. Rather than trying to change tires and load the car in with lightning flashing all around, I got in the truck. The car will be going to the engine builder tomorrow or Friday. I just pum...

Re: Rewrite of Solo Vee Rules

Twin carbs without the big valves won't work that well. And instead of twin carbs, the request should be for this.

Re: Rewrite of Solo Vee Rules

A top FF Kent road race engine is 124 hp at the crank. Most road racers are around 120. I'd guess that most of the CM Fords are a bit less. FF minimum weight is 1100 lbs with driver.

Re: Hmmm, that's interesting

Actually, I am turning left and that is my right hand in the picture. The lot is very bumpy, but that spot is by far the worst.

The outside front wheel is off the ground.

The lot is more than a little bumpy. Couldn't get the pic to show correctly.

Re: How did the F500????

The 500's are GCR legal race cars and the development for Club Racing may carry over to Solo. There are more people driving them and therefore have more info to share. They are getting new and young drivers who are fast. We are not getting new and young drivers, let alone fast ones. Most of us drivi...

Re: Congratulations--Scott

Due to his arm injury, Scott could not prepare his car to the level he wanted. While his arm is healing nicely, it seems to me that a 500 might be easier to drive.

Re: Where are all the Solo Vee Drivers

Why am I not going to Toledo? It is the same weekend as the Midiv Divisional in St. Louis. And, I am the SSS for the Divisional. Also, Toledo is a nine hour tow from STL. For the other Midiv Solo Vees it is more than 13 hours. So the Midiv Solo Vees that travel at all will be in STL. Also, in my cas...

Re: Racing this year?

My car needs to get down to SRacing for some work. I've been trying since December to get it to them. I work midnights and no set days. Every time I've arranged to get two consecutive days off, it has snowed., except for the two times when we had tornadoes. I'm going to try tomorrow, but there will ...

R.I.P. Bill Noble

Bill Noble passed away in his sleep last night. I watched Bill several times in the "70's but never met him. I have met Lisa several times in the past few years. My condolences to Lisa and the rest of Bill's family and friends.

Lithium Ferrous Batteries.

Does anyone have experience with lithium ferrous batteries? They are fairly expensive, but are much lighter than anything else. They can be rapid recharged with a standard battery charger. I understand that the F1000 cars are using them.

Re: Cam??

I have no Idea what the numbers mean, but no one uses stock cams. Many uses Emgle W-120 camshafts. My current engine has a W-130, but it might be a bit too much. My other engine has an custom ground Isky cam which is matched to the flow chart numbers for the heads.

Re: Stiff Shocks

In autocross, with its rapid transitions, stiff shocks are often used to simulate stiffer springs in classes which are not allowed to change springs. I can't see this working as well in racing with the slower transitions.

Re: 2011 Rule Change

Yes, that is stupid. I'll ask a MAC member I know why it was withdrawn.

The F500 guys wanted dry sumps to be required for Solo Vees. I sent the letter requesting that they be permitted. I'll have a dry sump whether they are approved or not.

Re: Rationals scheduled in the West

If Gateway hadn't closed, the National races there for 2011 would probably have been changed to Rationals. The St. Louis Region has lost a huge amount of money on Club Racing in the last few years. Nationals with 65 entries just don't cut it. There is also the problem of too many races in the Midiv.

Re: Anyone looking for a 1915 engine in Florida?

Those valve sizes are illegal for FM. What about the compression ratio. It can't be higher than 9.0:1. Since the engine has two carbs and larger valves, I wouldn't be surprised if it has higher than legal compression.

Re: Dry sump systems

Formula First and Solo Vees are separate under the Solo rules. Just because it is legal for FST, it is not legal for Solo Vee.
