This might not be applicable to your car but I had the popping out of gear problem when my rear 'bumper' was too close to the shifter rod.. There was some clearance, but I guess on some bumps, things moved and pushed the rod into neutral.

Exactly.. I don't know about other parts of the country, but I think it can only improve things on the west coast, especially the PNW. Regional racing is a joke around here. I think all of last year there were 3 FV entries in PNW regionals.. 2 of which were mine - so I could get my national license....

Are you sure the 1/16th of a turn isn't just the amount of rotation in the torque wrench's ratchet mechanism? Try making a mark in the nut/stud and see if it's actually rotating..

Keith does sell FV shoes.. I haven't tried them myself but he told me his customers were happy. I have no reason to doubt him!

Like I've tried to point out many times in other circumstances, it's a cultural thing. The fact that you think leaving something to sportsmanship is ludicrous says a lot about that. Plenty of other sports in plenty of other places happily survive with gentleman's agreements and things of the sort.

You'll really have to try them, as unfortunately it depends a lot on the car and your body as to what will be comfortable.
