Super Tour at Circuit of the Americas

I'm excitedly following the weekend from a million miles away.. Saw a couple of onboard videos already, one FA and one FB. What an awesome track! Not sure how it would be in a vee, I guess there are lots of "fast" corners! :D Times so far: Pratice 1 1. Tyler Hunter 2:40.473 2. Dwight Calki...

Re: Brake thought for the month

Like I said, it's not worth discussing, it's not gonna change and that's that. I'm glad your brakes work fantastically and that it takes you a couple minutes per wheel to adjust - not sarcasm either. That's part of the reason I'm skipping this season (and most likely next, by the way things are goin...

Re: Brake thought for the month

I think that might have been his point, Bob - discs shouldn't be out of the equation.. That's been discussed anyway and I know it won't change until a bigger percentage of the guys who grew up adjusting brake shoes retire from racing. It sure is a drag (ah! I made a funny..) to some of us lazier kid...

Dry sumps

This place has been really quiet lately.. I say let's bring on the dry sumps! :P No really, it seems odd that the "seas" are this calm right now. With the 50th approaching, I'd expect some buzz and excitement building up. Not so much the rules disputes and the fights over allowing technolo...

Re: relocating shoulder harness to fit Hans

Schroth has some amazing safety guides. Everything from how it relates to the Hans device, to the details and options on lap and anti-sub belts! I second the sit in the car thing with the belts clamped to the bar for a trial before you drill! I went commando on my car and just drilled it according t...

Re: I'm back

I'd also check for air leaks around the carb to intake mating surface, and the manifold to heads surface.. It would probably sound nasty and you'd figure something else was up, but I've had that problem of having no power and low RPM when I messed up the installation of my intake manifold  Wit...

Re: November minutes

Oh boy, it's about time we got a fun Winter discussion topic! I'm all for the change. Let me know what the official member input channel is! Bill - let it go. FV decided to keep doing their own thing a while ago, and it'll decide what to do in the future all by itself. If it eventually evolves into ...

This might not be applicable to your car but I had the popping out of gear problem when my rear 'bumper' was too close to the shifter rod.. There was some clearance, but I guess on some bumps, things moved and pushed the rod into neutral.

Re: FV 50th Celebration Announcement

Agreed - unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to make it to the 50th (to race anyway). I most likely won't be racing next season, so when the time comes if anyone is on the fence about attending due to the lack of a Hans device, I'd be glad to ship you mine, if you pay for the shipping and promi...

Re: Goodbye National Racing

Exactly.. I don't know about other parts of the country, but I think it can only improve things on the west coast, especially the PNW. Regional racing is a joke around here. I think all of last year there were 3 FV entries in PNW regionals.. 2 of which were mine - so I could get my national license....

Are you sure the 1/16th of a turn isn't just the amount of rotation in the torque wrench's ratchet mechanism? Try making a mark in the nut/stud and see if it's actually rotating..

Re: Lightening axles

Like I've tried to point out many times in other circumstances, it's a cultural thing. The fact that you think leaving something to sportsmanship is ludicrous says a lot about that. Plenty of other sports in plenty of other places happily survive with gentleman's agreements and things of the sort.

Re: Neck Restraints

You'll really have to try them, as unfortunately it depends a lot on the car and your body as to what will be comfortable. I'd imagine one of the adjustable units would have a better chance of fitting perfectly. Personally, I luckily had zero trouble fitting a Hans device on my car (Tsunami/Caracal ...
