Re: Summit Point July 17. 18 & 19

Ill be camping, I just sleep in the trailer.

It will be nice to compare notes with another D-13 driver. I got mine down to a 1:31.6 last weekend at MARRS, but I needed a draft to do it.

Re: Summit Point July 17. 18 & 19

I just spoke to John Heckman (President of FRCCA) and he said we will be fine on our novice permits. They will put us in their novice program and we will run with the regular vees but they will keep an eye on us our first few sessions. The regulations for Vees are the same as SCCA. There is a rule b...

Steven,

I have been told we can go on our Novices, I will call them tomorrow and can get back to you.

Sure, I would love to have the engine parts, just let me know what you want for them.

Re: need advice on reverse lockouts

Bill, I discovered (as in found someone Else's work) a great trick to make a reverse lock out on a D-13. My car was 1/2 way set up for it when I bought it, I guess it was just missing the mechanism. All it requires is a hole in the gate that is welded to the frame and a pin to insert. I am making a ...

Stripped lug in drum

Over the weekend I stripped the lug threads in a new front german drum while torquing to 74 ft/lbs. Has anyone fixed this by installing a threaded insert (e.g. Helicoil), and if so did you have any problems with it?

Re: April Fastrack--Oil Sumps

The combination of a dry sump pump with at least two pick ups and the current unlimited crankcase baffling could be used to gain ~1.5 hp (by estimation) at 6500 rpm. A dry sump pump with a single passage entering the crankcase (note, I said passage not hose which could be divided into two internal p...

WTB Fire Bottle / System

I am looking for a currently legal fire system. Either Halon or ESS type systems. My car is currently outfitted with a bottle mount and plumbing though it would be a good idea to replace the plumbing.

Re: Need more input on the FV manifold rules

In a Karting class (I do not remember which one) carb throat diameters were controled and measured with a go/no go gauge or sliding calipers. Racers began to make triangular-ish throats so they would pass both tests but be larger than legal. How can we prevent the same thing with this rule change? I...

Re: Break In Oil Help

If ZDDP ("Zinc") is what you are looking for (and there is a huge discussion around here somewhere about it, and we do not all agree) you can buy break in additive from most cam manufactures (available from summit, jegs, ect.). I believe that break in oil is also available from some. My un...

Caldwell D13 rear suspension question

I am putting back together a D13 that I bought in pieces. I am trying to figure out the rear suspension mounting locations. I know that the bottom of the arms (what is their official name?) mount on the 1/2" bolts that go through the trans mounts and rear of the frame. How do they mount there? ...

Maybe the growing database over at formulavee.us could help here. I remember on corvetteforum.com and alfabb.com there are features to look up local members (I think it is optional).

Ray, The shocks you gave me will be on the front of my D-13 this spring.

Re: What oil and weight for summer in New England?

The "Zinc" is really ZDDP (Zinc dithiophosphate). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZDDP The usefulness of it in motor oil is, roughly, that it is a monopolar molecule that will bond to Iron. The molecule is long, so when one end is bonded it provides a protective coating of the iron surface if...

Re: December Racecar Engineering Magazine and Vees

The idea is that the nose of the car, the ground, and the wheel/vertical portion of the beam form a boxed in area of compressing air and that air does not have else where to go but up. With an upward draft in the region of the beams, the addition of airfoils give more surface area for the draft to a...

December Racecar Engineering Magazine and Vees

December's Racecar Engineering Magazine (Vol 18 No12) has a follow-up article to their earlier articles on European Vee aerodynamics. This month inspects flow through and around the front beam tubes, end section, nose, and wheels. It is a good read, the result is surprising. Just after that is an ar...

Re: Intake Bellmouth / Horn Supply

Anything I create would function with an air filter, in fact, an air filter may become part of the package. Jim, your comments and testing results are very helpful. I have been wondering if the inflow to the mouth of the carb creates a low pressure region near the walls and a high pressure high velo...
