That was recommended to me when I started racing 5 years ago. I use the Torque Meister and then set my tq wrench to 33 lbs I think it is.Dietmar wrote:Stephen:

Re: LRE Drums Powdering Splines
The axle is fine. The splines on the drum are visibly powdering. I replaced the drum with another, but YOWEE! They are expensive.

LRE Drums Powdering Splines
Has anyone else out there had any issues with the splines on an LRE drum powdering? I had a nearly brand new LRE drum that had runoffs only time on it start to lose the splines after 1 session this past weekend. They literally started turning back to powder form. They were tightened to 325 ft/lbs pr...

Re: Freeing a seized engine
Don't forget that when you put the heads back on, you need to tq them partially and go back and forth side to side. I recommend tq'ing them to 80% of their tq spec, then add another 5% going side to side and from side to side until you are up to 100%. As for the rusting manifold. Let it rust until i...

Re: Various Questions
I would highly recommend reading the book "getting started in Formula Vee" It is available from SR Racing. See the banner ad on the top of this page. No offense, but you obviously need some help in this area if you don't understand camber. Start with this book, then read Fred Puhn's book, ...

If there is only one way to do something is irrelevant. The person who discovered/invented and patented the idea owns the rights. If they wanted to copy the idea, they should have licensed the technology. There is only one way to sing "all shook up", but I don't think the judge would buy t...

I have a tach, oil pressure, oil temp and cylinder head temp gauge up for sale. All four are VDO and are in decent cosmetic shape. I would prefer to sell all together for $125, but would seperate them if needed. http://www.tcrmotorsports.com/upload_directory/Tach%20VDO.JPG http://www.tcrmotorsports....

Original VW Steering Box w/ Powder Coated pitman arm
I have an older style VW original steering box. It comes with a powder coated black pitman arm. It is the older pre-63 (I think) that has the bigger shaft on the bottom than the new TRW replacements) This was taken off the D13 when I replaced all the front end components. $75 plus shipping or make m...

Vintage Valvoline Oil Cans
When I bought the D13, with it came 5 cans of valvoline racing oil. These cans are approx 25 years old. They would look great in your garage for decoration, or maybe that is the secret to making a vintage car go really fast. Who knows. Also includes the spout. Very cool though. $60 + shipping or mak...

Latest pictures uploaded. Re: AVGAS question
I use race gas from the track for all the reason's listed above. I don't use more than 10 Gallons in a race weekend typically. So saving a couple bucks per gallon is not a huge savings, especially since I live at least 25 miles from the closest place I could buy it, and all the hassle's the last few...

Re: Springs
I tested a harder spring last year, but that was moving towards an overall change. It was not a sesssion or track adjustment. I do change the compression setting on the shocks to tune for rough vs. smoth tracks, but in the opposite that you would expect. Seattle is very bumpy and harsh, but Portland...

Re: AVGAS question
Speak to your fuel cell manufacturer. The manufacturers I spoke with at the PRI show last year said that the new cells made today should be able to handle pump gas with low amounts of ethanol in them provided you drain them and don't store the gas in them for long periods. You need a completely diff...

Re: AVGAS question
I would like to know if our low compression FV engines run on pump 87-89 or 93 unleaded octane are fine? Not only will pump gas run fine, but it will slightly increase your horsepower to to the oxygenators. However, it will not pass the fuel test for SCCA. Many people use pump gas in ICSCC which do...

Re: brake bedding
160MPH? We better check the measurement of the bends in your manifold. That sounds a bit high. Do you have a practice session or a test session? You can bed them in then. Just go real easy on them for a couple laps, then push them to really build up some heat, then bring them back in and let them co...

Re: Spec manifolds?
What happens to the rest of us that have already invested in a top level manifold? If you want to evolve the class, check out Formula First. They are controlling manifold pricing by using a restrictor plate. Plus they have a dry sump, disc brakes, etc. I am not bashing the idea, I just like FV like ...

Re: Rear tire size question
If you can get your car to work on short rears, they are typically faster on a track with slow corners, as long as you only hit about 6100 on the straight away. They are however, harder to drive and are more likely to let go than the talls. I believe this is the rational for some of the guys like St...

I would wire it to the kill switch, with a switch in line to turn it off and back on. Mine (along with everyone else I know) will occassionally freeze up. Turning it off and back on fixes that. I run my speed off the front wheel. Easier to route the wire. I recommend Wheel Speed, Oil Temp, Cylinder ...

Re: oil pressure ???
My first impression is that it must have been the wire, as I think you would have blown something up if you truly had 0 pressure for that long. However, what was your oil level? It is possible up on the banking you exposed the oil pickup and were sucking air insterad of oil. I would fill it up to at...
