Re: FS 1970 Lynx formula vee

Do you know what size the intake and exhaust valves are? If they are 39 in. and 32 ex., then the only thing you need to make it FMod legal is to put a single 2-barrel carb on it. Or change the jugs and pistons to make it a 1600.

Still, that's an excellent price for a solo vee.

Re: SEB or MAC??

I don't think anybody would protest your car without reverse. I don't think tech inspectors would even check for that. Maybe at Nationals, but I've never been there, so others may know for sure.

Re: checking rear camber

Take a good picture of the car from the rear with the body off (hi res picture, square with the viewfinder frame, looking straight up the shift linkage, maybe hang a couple plumb lines near the wheels). We should be able to SEE what's wrong.

Re: checking rear camber

Now wait a minute. If it's a zero roll, then unequal links, tilted front beam, or a twisted frame would not change the rear camber much at all, would it? Please correct me if I'm wrong. (Z-bar is a different animal) If the camber really is that different between the two rear tires, the zero roll may...

Re: 1970 Lynx vee

How long is the hill climb? For autocross, drum brakes work great. If the hill climb has lots of hard braking and a long run, the disc brakes will handle the heat much better.

Talk to some FST car builders, or Jim at SR Racing. I'm pretty sure they use 13" wheels and disc brakes.

Re: 1970 Lynx vee

Which disc brakes do you have? Also about rain: I highly recommend making a cover. My vee came with a cover, and if I didn't have one, I'd spend a couple hundred $ to have one made. Besides the comfort factor (sitting in a pool of water is no fun), there are lots of things that can go wrong if they ...

So, no matter what the problem is, you should say the gearbox locked up so they send a tiltbed. 8)

Re: The Solo Vee is getting a room mate

What's the diameter of those tires? The local DMod drivers use Hoosier 20x9x13, but yours look more like 22s. Of course, you can use those tires on the rear of the solo vee as well. AND, if you change the bolt pattern on the vee, you can switch wheels back and forth! Did those front fenders rub the ...

That wasn't my intention, but you are right. I guess the best way to get the pulse of the people who vote with their wallets is to talk to the vendors. We've had enough of that recently. (No offense to the vendors out there : )

Poll on rules changes

I am curious as to what the FV community thinks are good reasons to change the rules. Select everything you agree with. (You can vote for more than one option.)

I am not asking about specific rules, just the general reasons to change the rules.

Re: FV Future

So how would a conversion plan work? Would you change the front beam one year, and the motor the next year? And with a drop dead date, would there be two distinct classes (points & championship) up until that date? If the drop dead date was set far in the future, 7 to 10 years, wouldn't the mark...

Re: Tire rejuvinator

For autocross, they make a 2 year old tire perform like a 1 year old tire--for 2 or 3 runs.

For road racing on a budget, you are better off buying used tires.

Re: Stripped lug in drum

In fact, when I raced in the rain, I dropped this closer to 55#s, as the rain acted as a lubricant. The proof if this is that when you went to remove the lugs after things dried, it took conciderably more torque than what you used installing them. Could that be caused by rust forming on the wheel, ...

Re: Front Suspension Setups

So I guess the question now is, whether to get a new spring pack or get a ball joint beam. I assume with the BJ front beam, you need different spindles, hubs, and you may as well do discs and 4 lug wheels. Has anybody priced the whole upgraded beam?

Re: Front Suspension Setups

That is one area with lots of unknowns. Unfortunately, I'm more clueless than you. The road racers have it dialed in pretty good. But they have skinny tires, more ground clearance and suspension travel, and they don't have to worry about quick transitions (slalom). As a result, they run a fairly sof...

Re: Freeing a seized engine

The main problem with solo vee engines is that the oil usually doesn't get hot. Water doesn't get a chance to evaporate. I see drops of water in my valve covers every time I adjust the valves. And I'm sure that more water got in somehow. If you've had as much rain as we've had this season, tarps wou...

Re: need advice on reverse lockouts

My car has a reverse lockout that is just a lever that keeps the shift knob from tilting too far to the left. It's held in place with a thumb screw, so when released, it swings out of the way. It works well, but is only adjustable by bending the lever (1/8 x 1" steel bar). I would recommend bui...
