Re: Official FV Discussion: SCCA Runoffs 2010

I like how in the shots of me flying through the air and spinning around, you can see a valve cover in motion in the background. That means the valve cover was still on the track when we entered turn 8. How can there be a gallon of oil AND A LARGE METAL OBJECT in the track and not have a debris flag...

Re: Official FV Discussion: SCCA Runoffs 2010

What, you guys don't go out and carefully inspect the track during the week? While I was walking around I saw where they had cut the transponder lines in the pavement approaching turn 5. (That plus the AMB box and extension cord running through the woods was a good clue). The trap was set ...

Re: Official FV Discussion: SCCA Runoffs 2010

Yeah, no worries Dave. When it all comes down to one 40 minute race a year, things like this are bound to happen. That's why we race...to see the outcome after all the unpredictable things happen, right?

Re: Official FV Discussion: SCCA Runoffs 2010

it was very windy for todays session. that combined with higher temps and humidity created a slow track. i was told somone broke a head stud and put downsome oil, but i wasnt out there long enough to see it.

now we all sit and wait for 2 days.

Re: Official FV Discussion: SCCA Runoffs 2010

im sure the gap between the top 10 will narrow. depending on the weather, im not sure the current pole time will hold either. in response to brians post, i did drop back and got a nice pull up the front straight one lap, but that wasnt my best. my fast lap came alone with no one around. the new hoos...

Re: Official FV Discussion: SCCA Runoffs 2010

i dont have any stories to write about - being the last group everyone scattered after the session to try to make their way to the welcome party. the sun came out at the 5 mintue warning for the first time all day, so we had a good track. the wind picked up too so there was a good head wind down the...

Re: Official FV Discussion: SCCA Runoffs 2010

hey all...so we are all bored waiting for our 5:30 session so i thought i would make a post. the vee crowd is spread out in the paddock this year, so its a bit harder to keep track of whats going on. right now everyone is guessing the weather...its been cloudy and every hour a few sprinkles come dow...

Re: Proposed Runoffs Qualification Rules For 2011

I have had numerous conversations over the past year with people inside SCCA regarding issues like the national racing program. All I can say at this point is SCCA is fully aware of the problems they are facing, and fully aware of the competition being offered by new organizations. They are developi...

22 cars is great for a national. We had 15 at Gingerman on the same weekend, which I also thought was fantastic.

Re: June Sprints

Terry, I beleive the results can be found on SCCA's website somewhere. It was a good weekend all around for the FV's. A little light on the turnout, but I think everyone except Rick Shields was able to drive their car into the trailer. I'm not sure what happened to Rick, but rumor was an engine prob...

Re: June Sprints/Lowest entry since 1963

Unfortunately, I think the classes like FV's are stuck in a "dead" zone. No one wants to pay someone what it would take to prep a FV, yet fewer and fewer people are willing to do it themselves. We all have more happening in our lives now then 10-20 years ago. It's the downside of all this ...

Re: Minimum Weight Survey

I would like to point out again that just forcing people to add more weight to their car does not create as equal of a situation as people hope it will. If a 180# driver has to add 25# more ballast in their car, thats a greater % of the weight they get to keep as low as possible in the car, creating...

Re: Refilling shock

Just to throw some more numbers into this discussion to see if anything makes sense: I don't have a shock in front of me, but If I assume an air chamber behind the air / oil piston of 1" diameter by 1" long, a shock shaft diameter of .5", and air behaving as an ideal gas, and based on...

Re: Refilling shock

OK, that makes sense. I forgot to consider the added volume of the shock shaft. But the differences are still small - a 50 psi change on a shock with a .5" shaft would only change the rate by about 10 lbs if I'm thinking clearly this morning, and it should be linear regardless of the starting p...

Re: Refilling shock

I fail to see how shock pressure can make any difference at all. The air is there only to keep pressure on the oil to prevent foaming. Whatever the air pressure is set at, the oil on both sides of the shock piston is at the same pressure. If it's the same on both sides of the piston, there is no dif...

Re: Refilling shock

Does the air pressure really have an effect on the shock? Has anybody actually confirmed a difference on a dyno? I take my air bottle and re-charge my front shocks about 3 times a year. As long as my airtank has more then 100 lbs in it, I never cared if it was 100 or 120.

Re: Showcase nationals

I was planning all winter on running the national at Mid-Ohio this year, but since they scheduled it for the same weekend as the double national at Road America, I am not going this year. I might consider the Watkins Glen race in July. If I had a more dependable tow vehicle, I would probably go. As ...

Re: Showcase nationals

The original point of this thread was to try and find ways to increase car counts - even if it's only at selected events. If we can increase car counts at selected events, I think some of that will spill over to other races. The FST group had success by staging their own "series" run with ...

Re: Showcase nationals

Steve, I understand how the schedule turned out as it did. They combined less classes this year, so there are more total qualifying sessions. They are basically running them 1-25, then repeat. Since we are late in the day on Monday, we don't get cycled through again until Wednesday morning. Some gro...

Some FF drivers have agreed and organized among themselves several "Showcase" nationals, in which they are attempting to draw a larger then usual group of entries in an effort to create better racing and fields at select events. The theory is if everyone can agree to attend specific events...

Re: Minimum Weight Survey

Being a large driver, I guess I should welcome a minimum increase. But I don't think I want one. I'm 6'3", probably among the taller of most drivers. I can get within 5-7 lbs of minimum weight when I really watch my diet and fitness. If I can make it at 6'3", then most others should be abl...
