Re: Spec Tire Survey Results
Dont forget SCCA will not want to deal with this. Plus there are more drivers against this idea then have spoken out. There are still a large group of us who feel this can be a huge set back for the class, and will fight against it. I don't see the momentum growing other then an increased bitching o...

Tire Survey
Did the committee collectively approve the tire survey that is being circulated and advertised as coming from the committee? The survey questions are very poorly designed and heavily biased towards a chosen outcome. I would be dissapointed if the questions on it were concieved and approved by the en...

Re: Tire Changer
For what it's worth, I use an old center post manual bead breaker / changer. The newer construction tires (2010+) take some serious effort to mount. I have done 100's of tires over the past years so I have a good technique, but expect to be sweating. I suppose it depends how often you'll be doing it...

Re: Wheel speed sensor
My latest system is GPS based and I really like it. I liked your old one - when we had that drag race up the hill on the last lap at Road America a few years back heading to the June Sprints flag I remember looking over and the lights were so bright on your dash I was watching them to see when you ...

Re: Combined FV/F5 qualifying for *ALL* sessions ??
Steve, I understand what you're trying to do, and I support it...the problem is without a constant weather forcast, it's a dangerous idea. If one of the groups gives up a qualifying day and it rains on the day we are supposed to have our own track, we lost 2 sessions. Not to mention the argument ove...

Re: Combined FV/F5 qualifying for *ALL* sessions ??
Thanks for doing this Steve. I have been tempted to "boycott" the runoffs this year so I can sit back and watch the qualifying sessions - It's absolutely absurd that the largest classes at the runoffs have combined sessions. At the very least, the top 10 should have their own. I know this ...

Re: You asked for it.
There is one thing I hate above all in this world it's ignorance! In the end it is time for a change the 1200 engine is a dying horse. We have to start thinking of the future of this "grassroots form of open wheel racing'. I know some of the 'fast guys" won't like this but you have to thi...

Re: April meeting
The June Sprints this year were a victim of bad scheduling. It was the week after a double national at mid-ohio, and no one from the Great Lakes division came over for it. 4-5 cars from last years count were from that division - had they shown up the numbers would have been much better. However, I d...

Re: Mid-Ohio 6/12...what happened to Gary?
Well that explains why you didn't finish. That's too bad. Regardless of the brand, it's a good idea to always inspect the area around the hole for cracks. I caught one at the runoffs in 2009 right before the race, decided to change it just in case.

Mid-Ohio 6/12...what happened to Gary?
Does anyone know what happened to Gary Blanarik on Sundays race at Mid-Ohio? He had a great race on Saturday and was part of an fantastic battle for the win, but on Sunday he dropped out on the first or second lap. He was already gone before I came back from impound, so I didn't get a chance to ask....

Re: Last minute helpful hints/suggestions?
Since no one else has said it, I guess I will. The school day will be very, very hectic...it's super important at some point to take a breather - pause for a second, take a breath, and relex - just sit down and soak up what you're doing for a minute or two. Remind yourself how freakin' awsome it is ...

Re: Rationals scheduled in the West
I have no problem being on the track with regional drivers at the same time, as long as we are all racing for the same trophy. Trying to have two different 1st place, 2nd place, 3rd placee, ect., races going on at the same time is stupid. If we are going to combine regional and national on track ses...

Re: Brake shoe break-in
JS, To answer your question about baking, when using the stock shoes I would place them in the toaster oven for 1 cycle. I think it was about 30 minutes at 400F. Additional cycles I would not expect to have any benefit. I would not, however, suggest you do this with Carbotech shoes. According to Car...

Re: Startting from Scratch - FV or FST?
I think what Bob was trying to say was in general, other classes don't enjoy racing with other classes. It creates mostly frustration. I can't stand it when a FF, F500, or for that matter, a FST is trying to race me. I am not entered in a race against them...doing so is just ruining my focus on who ...

Hello - I have a set of Goodyear rains that I've been holding for a few years, that I've decided to sell. They have been in plastic in my basement, never mounted. $475 I would prefer to sell them locally as I'm not sure how to ship them easily. I can meet someone anywhere in the Chicago / Milwaukee ...

Re: A Mono Shock rotary damper system...
It's a bit more complicated then that, but thats the basic idea. The other interesting thing that happens is the rate at which the roll changes is different for fast and slow corners. It took a lot of data recording, but with travel sensors on the carriage, we learned some intereting things. By reco...

Re: A Mono Shock rotary damper system...
While it would be nice to get loose in a slow tight turn, I question having it happen in a flat-out sweeper. But there are tracks that have more tight turns in one direction, and sweepers in the opposite. That's why it works great to be able to vary the resistance for right and left corners indepen...
