Re: remember "Pro Vee"?

I was involved in the mess at IRP. In qualifying the track was juuuuust about flat out in 4th. In the race the times were significantly quicker due to the draft, but mostly still flat in 4th. Impossible to pass - pull out and you went backwards. We basically were following the leader the entire time...

Re: Wheel cover ban

Stephen, How can you assure me? Did you design them? Spec them, make them? Dave, I can assure you they do not extend past the centerline of the front beam. That is the reason for the flat on the front. I have made a few comments regarding these on the thread at Apexspeed.com Thanks, Michael Varacins

Re: June Sprints

Ethan did a great job driving in the rain. Terrible race conditions and he came out on top. Kudos. If anyone hears what happened to Rick during the Vee race I'd like to know. Him, Chris and I were having a great race when he went off in 14. The angle he went off at was strange - not sure what happen...

Re: Spec Tires

I am all in favor of a tire that will last 30 sessions. I just don't think it's possible to do so without ending up with a sticker advantage. Right now, with our current compound, there isn't much of an advantage to running them as stickers. A good scuff session leads to a tire consistant for most o...

Re: Nelson Ledges

How come so many people are going to Nelsons instead of the double / super tour at Mid-Ohio the following weekend? I guess 14-15 Vees that are already registered for Mid-Ohio will be fun, but Terry your mission at Nelson's is to convince most of those vee guys to come to Mid-Ohio....let's see if we ...

Re: 1984 June Sprints @ Road America - history

I knew if I looked at those photos long enough I might catch a glimpse of my dad - sure enough, pic #4 of turn 5 at the start...that's his Caldwell on the indside - #65. The number I still use today and the black helmet he is wearing is still sitting in the shop. That means I must be along the fence...

Re: 1984 June Sprints @ Road America - history

Very cool Steve. I was hoping in some of the other galleries there would be more 'Sprints pictures but I couldn't find any.

What caught my attention is all the spectators along the fence. Where has everyone gone?????

Re: Spec Tires

So my attempts at keeping some reality in the process is fear mongering? You point to the spec tire in the FF1600 and FF2000 series. How many race weekends are the front runners putting on a set of those "spec tires"? If they have a spec tire, why aren't they running 5 races on a set?

Re: Spec Tires

For what it's worth Greg, I have discussed the concept of a spec tire with key individuals. As much as I want to help FV's growth and / or survival, I will not take the lead on a project I feel can have a detrimental effect on the class. To have a proper spec tire that provides BENEFITS from what we...

Re: Spec Tires

Negative statements like this is why nothing gets done and why FV is where it is. I'm simply stating you are under estimating what is required to get the job done. You are providing no substance in your last few posts other then re-hashing your opinion that anyone against spec tires is against FV's...

Re: Spec Tires

A partial or regional or divisional spec tire program just forces people to choose sides. If the FV community gives me authority, I will negotiate with suppliers, test tires at my expense, and deliver a spec tire program to SCCA by Oct 1, 2012. There would be no charge to SCCA or anybody else. I wo...

Re: -2 for front brake lines

When looking at the -2 fittings, the hole for the fluid passage is incredibly small...my concern is what steve originally stated - there would be a bit of a delay in pushing the fluid through that opening. With disc brakes I don't think it's a big deal, but with the volume of fluid that needs to be ...

Anyone have success running -2 for front brakelines? I'm a little concerned about doing it with our drum brakes.

Re: Spec Tire Survey Results

Greg, What logic is it that I'm twisting? I'm giving a very logical reason for caution against a tire you and Mark are imagining. You can't make a significantly harder compound tire and avoid a significant sticker cycle advantage. When that happens, IT WILL BECOME EVEN MORE IMPORTANT TO HAVE NEW TIR...

Re: Spec Tire Survey Results

Whatever savings there might be in an exclusive supplier will probably go out the window when SCCA demands its fee for being the exclusive supplier. I'm sure there will be some who will say thats nonsense, but trust me....SCCA will demand a fee for a supplier to be exclusive to a class. If this is s...

Re: Spec Tire Survey Results

The tire engineers are good. They'll build a tire that will be good in their first attempt and make minor refinements by production time. Ongoing tire development programs would cease after the initial batch .... there is cost savings! Eliminating tire sponsorships ..... there is cost savings! Elim...

Re: Spec Tire Survey Results

Facts? There really are only two facts that apply to this discussion. 1) Virtually every pro racing Series and most amatuer racing in the world, virtually every class at every oval track in America, from F1 to Nascar uses a single tire supplier as an effective cost-saving and safety tool. 2) FVs in...

Re: Spec Tire Survey Results

I believe the expectations from a spec tire are too great. This is where I think the cheerleaders are being misled. It is being assumed that the tire manufactures have a chemical formula in their back pocket that they are waiting to use to unveil a tire that will be fast from cycle 1 to 25. Why woul...

So you're OK with telling 20+ FV drivers that buy new tires for the runoffs that they won't be able to use them the following season? Sounds a little hypocritcal to me.

The competition between Hoosier and GY has already given us the best tire for our needs. If they could do better, don't you think they would have?
