Re: Regional motor, needs rebuild
Bill, thanks for the note. I remember reading the news about his passing and wondering if there might be a connection. From what I could gather about the engine, Jess Heitman built it using parts that the previous owner bought from various sources. So I don't think it was originally built by Mike Gr...

Regional motor, needs rebuild
Just thought I'd post this up, we'll see how it goes. This is the engine that came with my car when I bought it 2 years ago. It was built by Jess Heitman a few years ago, the heads are marked "Gray". Engine has about 25 hours on it and I pulled it when I bought a spare motor. Was planning ...

You're right, every opinion is valid - how are we supposed to know your opinion if you choose not to participate in the discussion? Anyway, can someone post the Survey questions? I took the survey the day it came out, didn't think it was all that offensive. Can't remember the exact wording, though, ...

For $600, you might be able to find an older pneumatic/electric machine.. If I was flipping 5 sets of tires before every race, no way I'd be using a manual machine! I'm just the perfect example of the youth of today, not willing to put any work into anything

Yeah, if I remember right, the pressure plate ships with some clips that kinda hold it all together and are supposed to be removed during assembly.. Something like that

Yes, at your level, you don't need a setup like this yet.smsazzy wrote:You can't expect to have that stiff of a setup and have a car handle the conditions of a 35-40 minute race.

Re: Zero roll "bump" limit?
darn it, I said I wouldn't look at the graph more than 10 seconds, but I had to go and look at it again. Anyway, I think if Scott added some filtering to the curve, we'd see that his static ride height with the driver sitting in the car would probably be right around -0.15.. Look at the big flat are...

Re: Zero roll "bump" limit?
Where are you seeing the graph for front ride height? According to Scott, black is chassis roll in degrees (measured at the front beam), red is rear ride height. Since the scale is centered around zero, I'm going on a limb and saying that 0 is normal ride height (whatever that his for his car), abov...

Re: Zero roll "bump" limit?
It's the 1st day of 2012 and I refuse to look at that graph for more than 10 seconds, but it appears to me that the downward spikes have nothing to do with this 'discussion'. The spikes are isolated, probably bumps or the effect of turn in, I dunno - I'd have to look at the graph a bit more! On the ...

Re: Wheel speed sensor
There are lots of strategies as far as speed signals go, they all have pros and cons.. I guess the ultimate system would be 4 wheel speed sensors, averaging the speeds and discarding values significantly lower than the rest through filtering.. Hmmm. Expensive and complex! I believe the wheel speed s...

Don - are you Don Lines from up here in BC, by any chance? :) If so, I'd talk to Frank at Driver's Edge. He only sells the Hans, but you can probably ask him to try one on in your car and see how you feel. I have a Hans, I don't even notice it's there while driving. There are some instructions that ...

I haven't measured my front spring at all, was going by the numbers that I had seen thrown around here on the forum. I believe my front spring has been modified by removing one of the "blades", making it softer. I'll have to measure mine, another winter project

Re: Minimum front ride height
John, thanks for the post. I'll try to do the calculations I was doing before with your numbers for CoG height and distance, and using your measured spring rate as well.. I don't think my reasoning was too far off, but yes, I was making some pretty wild assumptions :) I'm all setup to measure my car...

Maybe in 1st gear? I don't think I've ever even engaged 1st gear in my car hehe. I'll have to try that sometime, maybe in the gravel or something. I guess a rev limiter would help too, eh?

I gotta agree with Greg here.. I would be ok with a spec tire that lasted a long time or performed decently.. Or one that didn't leak 1psi/hr..

Re: Minimum front ride height
Steve, the guys that got ahead of you were certainly mistaken, that should never have happened :P Well my "theory" does not preclude cars from diving more than 1.75", it really depends on where they start from.. If the turkey legs are parallel to begin with, there will be dive, and qu...

Re: Minimum front ride height
Yeah.. Which is why I'm multiplying by .6 (60%). If the car is 1025lbs and there's 1G of braking forces, that means there's 1025lbs being applied by the ground to the 4 tires. If the brake bias is 60% to the front, that hopefully means that the front tires are getting 60% of the braking force - so 1...

Re: Minimum front ride height
That would the the entire force on the front wheels.. Well, for a 1.2G braking force, it would be 1.2 * 1025 * 0.6 = 738lbs. That force is pulling back parallel to the ground. Which is why the angle of the turkey leg is important - if the turkey leg is parallel to the ground, there is no anti-dive.....

Re: Minimum front ride height
Well.. Then if my original assumption of a 20in COG height was right, the weight transfer would be around 296lbs.. On your data, looks like you had 1.75in on one side and 1.6 on the other with 1.2G of longitudinal force. I'll average it to 1.675.. With a wheel rate of 60lbs, 1.675" of travel = ...
