Re: Leading arm attachment

The motion ratio is changed to create more travel at the shock. This makes the compromises made by this modification even more interesting. I learned a new trick today. Did you re-valve your rear shock to compensate for the change in motion ratio? Did you calculate or model what the actual number wo...

Re: Leading arm attachment

No

The brake forces are best controlled by an arm that is parallel to the wheel such as the original VW rear suspension design. The rear control arm design becomes progressively more compromised as you move away from this original design.

Re: Suspension travel

Generally you want the car as low as possible... but then there are always some compromises to be made. 1) The rear height is really dictated by the rear camber. The height of the engine and transmission have a little range of movement if you tilt them downward. The best you can do with the standard...

Re: Leading arm attachment

This side force will add to (on the outer side) or subtract from (on the inner side) the side forces due to cornering. The other advantage is it lowers the whole rear suspension (including the shock) while while leaving the suspension action the same - so decreasing COM. From the picture it looks l...

Re: Polishing transmission gears

1) I never said the the carb modification was legal before the rule change. What I did say was that a simple radius makes all carb tops equal. That is why the rule was changed. 2) I am talking about gear polishing... AND I specifically stated polishing the gear mating surfaces only. Not restricting ...

Re: Leading arm attachment

Does picking up that axle housing pivot point below the leading arm afford some better geometry to the zero-roll setup? 1) If we assume you have fixed wheel rate setup number.. all this arrangement does is decrease the force pulling out on the axle housing to side cover bearing surface. Hard to say...

Re: Polishing transmission gears

With your reference to, "9.1.1.6F says, "Allowed modifications:" there is nothing more to be said and no argument to promote this illegal modification. Worn gear mating surfaces are smoother than new gear surfaces. Is there a legal limit to how smooth a gear mating surface can get......

Re: Polishing transmission gears

The biggest philosophical difference is that normal wear is not an intentional effort to change performance. So you do not make a intentional effort to use a well warn transmission in an effort to change performance? FV has been using excessively warn parts intentionally to increase performance fro...

Re: Polishing transmission gears

Explain to me how removal of material on the gear 'wear surfaces' during a polishing process is any different than normal wear? I am assuming no material removal from non wear surfaces. How is Tech going to discern the difference? What is the point of polishing if there is normally no metal to metal...

An interesting interview would be with Mark Felsen and Tyler Hunter. They are a team out of Denver running both FA and FV. Their perspective on the speed differentials between the two classes would be very interesting.

Re: Runoffs 2015

Not at the track. Just working with a couple of contacts. The humidity is too much for a this guy from Southern Calif. Hopefully Davis can add some more info from today. I learned that Varicins time was without a draft. Davis possibly turned a 223.9. No one else has broken into the 23's. Brian

Varicins well under the track record of 225.4 on Thursday by himself. Saturday he is at 223.2; no knowledge of his use of a draft. 40 sec full throttle from the Bus Stop to turn 1.. where you turn down into the interior. Another 35 sec full throttle where you re-enter the oval (exit the interior) to...

Re: Alternate tire/wheel for FV?

From another thread: Hoosier Tires would be happy to supply a Spec tire for FV. They request that the the tire be specified or developed through the SCCA Spec tire procedure just used by FF. The simplest solution would be a more durable compound for the existing FV tire construction. The compound us...

Re: Alternate tire/wheel for FV?

Yes, I saw your post on apex and find it interesting. Of course, hoosier can offer that tire at anytime if it is not a radial. No rules change required. The only rule change required to allow suitable DOT tires is an alternate wheel specification to be paired with any DOT tire. 1) Just provide a ha...

Re: Alternate tire/wheel for FV?

If there were an absolutely clear alternative slick tire that would at least double, and better triple, the current life without any dropoff, I could be persuaded the alternate is unnecessary. I don't think that tire exists. I don't think that tire can be made unless it is so close to a DOT tire co...

Re: Alternate tire/wheel for FV?

So there will be a top speed change. But not upward.... It takes more power to go faster because of the increase in aero drag. Chances are very good that your new rpm operating range will be creating less HP. Aero drag: The wheels/tires create about 65% of the aero drag with a FV. This is not front...

Can use present steel wheels The present wheels are part of the problem. Finding a straight set of 40 year old wheels are getting harder to do. I am a new driver that doesn't have 30 sets packed away. I suggest that you spend some time & money like the rest of the old times and start acquiring ...

Re: Alternate tire/wheel for FV?

My plan has nothing to do with allowing the Committee to STUDY anything.... In case you haven't noticed the FF Spec Tire issue is FAR from resolved Your plan will never fly with the CRB... too Mickey Mouse. Re: Alternate tire/wheel for FV?

A dual or optional tire wheel rule is a completely unnecessary. Allowing the FV Committee to 'study' is a complete waste of time. The FF spec tire process toke a good 9 months. We do no need the FV Committee wasting valuable time on a pointless option... and one that the CRB would never approve! 1) ...

Re: August Minutes

Re: August Minutes

The SFRegion has used a AR spec tire for over a decade and FV is now dead in the SFR at the Regional level. You can not demonstrate a positive correlation between participation and the use of a spec tire. A spec tire is all about saving money for the current competitor.

ok, then Veerock it is from Hoosier. The Falken tires are 14 or 15". Both cases require new rims that fit the wide 5 pattern. The cost of the rims is covered by the much lower price of the Falken compared to the current price of the Hoosiers. The survey says............... 1) Do you want a spec...
