Re: Brazil VW Pistons & Cylinders
When I first started out in 2001 I built my own motors every year I guess 4 times. Got a rebuilt kit and heads from Butch at DRE and a piston-cylinder set from Jim. Dietmar did most of the machining/smart work for me and provided me intricate instructions and details on how to put it all together. N...

Re: website hosting
What are you going to be using it for? I have two websites through SmugMug for my photography, this one is Speed Shots by Hal Adkins. http://speedshots.smugmug.com/ They have lots of room, are good to work with, all by email of course. I think it is $150 a year, that is a pro account, regular ones w...

Re: Gopro cameras
Just had one little dent in the exhaust collector and have some dirt and chipmunks in the brake drums, other than that just dirty. Haven't worked on the master cylinder yet but the floor under it was wet with brake fluid, something let loose all at once for sure. I agree with Thor, if the sound is n...

Re: Gopro cameras
I have been using the standard GoPro that I got from SR a few years ago, after I got the proper mount for it it has always worked find as long as I remember to turn it on, and put a card in it... I think the sound is great when set on low, and I use recharchargeable AAA's to keep costs down. Haven't...

Re: Alignment tips..
I suppose you can build up, shim up floor so it is level from side to side, but you are going to have to role the car back and forth while you are making measurements and adjustments to get the right set so this would take a lot of work and still might not be reliable. But in the words of Dietmar ev...

Re: Brake shoe break-in
After I changed the brake mounting position on the Citation, moved it forward, I had to cut, bend back, and have welded the two steel flat pieces holding the pedal itself, without doing this the pedal was so far forward it would have been very dificult to race. Now the brake pedal is right where I w...

Re: Brake shoe break-in
Generally speaking I try to get the brake pedals on both my cars to acheive maximum force when they are pretty much straight up and down, effectively at a right angle to the master cylinder push rods. No mechanical engineer here but could certainly see how braking force would be lost if the brake pe...

Re: Air compressor & generators
My first air tank in my first go-round in racing back in the 70's was converted 20 pound propane tank. Kinda heavy but would hold all the air you could force into it. Several years ago I bought an no-tank air compressor and hooked it to my now mounted under the work bench propance tank. The set up w...

Teflon Intake Gaskets
If you are a fan and user such as I am of the nifty Teflon intake gaskets (it is the only type I ever use) you should know that Dietmar at Quixote Racing, 619-561-7774, see ad above, is making them now and will have them available to the Vee community. I have always used the Teflon gasket since I st...

Re: Starters
I got the reduction drive starter a few years ago, pricey but does save I believe around 4 lbs. I did end up working for two evening, many hours to get the thing to fit on my D-13. Works really well though and nice not having to worry/bother with the bushing any more. My Citation is light enough I d...

Had a Vee guy several years ago try and get throught a Midwestern Council drivers school three times, first time with the engine that came in the car, blew up in the first session. 2nd time he had the motor rebuilt by a tune buggy guy who had built hundreds of mortors, bad rod. 3rd time after the bu...

Re: WHEEL BALANCER
Yeah, I had the drum part cut off of an old one and use it to hold VW wheels for mounting and dismounting on my little cheap "imported" tire changer. Then made a balancer out of a cracked spindle, lightly oiled and tightened bearings, and balanced drum to use to balance wheels, had a rod w...

Re: The passing of Tom Mayerhoffer
I have been thinking of Tom lately as I paint a repaired Vee nose in my studio, to cold and expensive to heat the garage for the work that needs to be done. Tom's first Vee was a Crusader like the one I had when we raced in 70's. He was still a college student at Northern and told me he painted the ...

Re: Head and neck restraints req'd 1/2012
I have used a Hutchens Device in my D-13 for several years now, very easily adjusted to the lay down position and I feel naked without it anymore. I am ahead of the trend for safety as I have always felt there are worse things than getting killed in racing, such as finding yourself motivating down t...

Bob, Oh, I see. Your clients don't have much money so you maybe take stuff, kinda like the barter system of old that doctors and lawyers used to do. So am I to assume then with economy being what it is, in the future you will be taking in quantities of chickens and such. Well I guess that would not ...

That is a 1999 Lambda FV008, a homebuilt driven by Eric Lecuyer, built by his dad Jean, and rebuilt by Jean again this summer after having tangled with a FF at a June MC race at Joliets Auto Bahn North track. Went upside down big time and really trashed the car and didn't do Eric any good either. Th...

I used to struggle to with that projed too, but what I came up with is to disconnect the incoming fuel line from the pump and maybe tape a piece of tubing on it to get it into a can. I have made up a handy tool that consists of a CD with light foam on one side with the center hole cut out. I put tha...
