Re: Could this be our future?
Chris, Not sure if your post was meant to be tongue in cheek, but those "dreamy" cars have been racing in SCCA for the past 5 years. We just call it Formula First. Our rules were adapted directly from the Australian CAMS rules. Here is the Jacer you posted http://img02.picoodle.com/img/img...

Re: Help about intake debate for us novices
Bill, If your thought process were true (German quality control), this would never have been an issue. Because VW was building so many type 1cars in the early to mid 60's (about 1 million per year), they had sub-contracted mutiple vendors for just about every part on the car. The intake manifolds we...

Re: Help about intake debate for us novices
If we did flow and or dyno 100 stock manifolds how much of a difference would there acutally be? Bill, You would be hard pressed to find 100 stock manifolds. Brian Harding has been on a manifold shopping spree. Part of the issue is that previously one was looking for the -021D manifold that only ca...

Re: Need more input on the FV manifold rules
My manifolds cost $1000, NOT $1500 to $2000 The same $1000 that a top of the line Kochanski sells for when available. Brian Harding Brian, If there is a price perception issue, you brought it on yourself. Here is your post dated October 24, 2009 titled "$1600 Intake Manifold". You are cer...

Re: VW Hub Caps
Are the new FF wheels in fact smooth surface aero types? Brian, You tell me. http://img37.picoodle.com/img/img37/3/2/24/f_autobahn021m_35958a8.jpg They are (4) piece monocoque wheels made of spun sheet aluminum with inner/outer hats and inner/outer centers. Re: VW Hub Caps - Nope
I couldn't find it the first time I looked, but in the GCR under 9.3.10. "hub caps must be removed in all classes". Once I read this, I remembered Rich Sharpe's argument, that they were not hub caps but in fact they were valve stem protectors and in his veiw, a safety item.

Bill, Now that one I have a photo of, but I've been digging around trying to find it.... no luck. My photo was of Kerry Bowman's spotless yellow D car at Road America around '81 or '82 (when D cars were truely skinny). They were pods/pontoons that hung "on-a-stick" in front of the rear tir...

If I only would have had a camera
That was pretty much exactly what had been done here in CenDiv in the late '80's by Rich Sharpe in a Citation. Looked really cool, but he claimed it was a real pain to change wheels. He got away with it for an event or two before tech made him take them off. He argued free hardware and ridgid attach...

Re: New manifold rules in GCR
An example that fits both is that we were almost all running AV gas (when it was not allowed) because it was not detectable as not being compliant John, 100LL Aviation fuel (AV gas) has always been 100% compliant (and popular) with the exception of fuel controlled events (Runoffs, ect). I think the...

Re: New manifold rules in GCR
Next everyone will complain that someone came out with a chassis that has won the last several runoffs, but it is a $20,000 car. If they could be had for $20K, there would have been a whole bunch more of them. Better push that number somewhere over $30k. Used ones go for $25k or better (if you can ...

Steven/Ed, Chris Jennerjahn has a P3 "kit" for sale here: http://www.sracing.com/ForSale/forsale.htm He claims to have "multiple exhaust systems". Maybe one could be purchased? Side note: If this is Brian Jennerjahn's old P3, this car lead the Runoffs in '85 with Andre Serrano be...

Look up top at the banner ad, RaceCarSupply/SRacing. They have them, pricing is competitive and they are the largest ($$$) supporter of this fine forum you are veiwing. I'd say your best place to find them in more ways than one.

Re: Extended sump question
OK, pile up your supply of rocks and get one in hand. I know this will get flamed, stoned and trample till the end of time, but....... A simple dry sump system will solve these very common FV oiling issues. My bet is that the general engine life (time between lower end rebuilds) will go way up. The ...

Mr Flat, Brian Harding can seem a little aggressive at times with his posts. I personally love the "If this is too much work for you or makes your car too ugly to race, then stay home." type statements. He's stated before that he likes the idea of having less guys at the track. Something a...

Re: Dec fastrack - roll bar fairings...
I started doing this on the front bean of last car I built (see photo). The first event we went to, the workers fell in love with the idea. In Australia, these are required front and rear. The next car built will have them front and rear painted bright red. The tech guys and workers just go nuts ove...

Re: December Racecar Engineering Magazine and Vees
Question: Were the Brewer side pods ever homologated for the Citation FV? Sometime at the Runoffs (late 90s) when the tech guys were making people cut off any "wing-type" fairings, the Citations (Brewer pods with 1" Gurneys) were spared the trouble because they were homologated body ...

If you notice the Citation's side pod has a flat top surface and a curved lower surface. Brian, You gotta get out more often. The Citation hasn't had that configuration since the WSU wind tunnel test 15 to 20 years ago. Althought Citation (Campbell) hasn't built an FV for better than 7 years, the &...

John, Nothing was published (that I know) but a video tape of tunnel time was made available ($75?) shortly after the test. Most of those directly involved with the tests are members of this board. My bet is because a majority of the funding for the tests came from FV constructors or body builders, ...

Brian,
Here you are, Formula Vau (German FV). All the wings you wish.

These are GAC-04's (UK built) with a ball joint beam, disc brakes, 1300 cc water cooled VW Polo engine, all that modern touch stuff.

Re: December Racecar Engineering Magazine and Vees
There is NO WAY that the bare beam of any FV/FST can not be improved on in the aero department. Yes, but how legal will your improvements be? There were many people involved in those Wichita State wind tunnel tests some 15-20 years ago. A whole load of data came out of that including the best (lowe...
