Re: Going FST vs FV Racing

Maybe I'm misinformed and have received incorrect information. I think so. But here is the place to tell us. The pros of cons ARE being discussed here to determine what are the best options. If you have some info about FST problems, please share them. As we find issues with new parts, etc. we post ...

Re: Going FST vs FV Racing

How quick are you compared to the 4 fast FSTs? This will determine your cost. I love how everyone keeps talking about how inexpensive FST cars are but everytime I look at a results sheet there is 3 maybe 4 lead cars that are 2 sec a lap faster than the rest that are back with FVs with 30hp less, wh...

Re: Pro event possibilty

Well, there are Pro events and there are Pro events... We raced the old USAC F2000 series for a couple years and did several races with Indy Car and TransAm, etc. It was BY FAR the best we have ever been treated. Tech, Registration, general assistance, etc. was head and shoulders above any club raci...

[ In typical "conflict of interest" FV/FST fashion, this partial conversion proposal discussion is getting muddied because people who would be politically and conceptually opposed to this proposal, are now seeing the potential for selling parts for it, based on their FST experience and ca...

Re: August Minutes

Thanks Jim your quote saved me some time. Add at least $300 per set of wheels and another $300 for a rear kit and you're looking at a $2000 buy in plus miscellaneous stuff that always adds up on my projects. Want extra rims for rains and qualies? add $300 to $400 a set. While I recognize there are ...

Re: August Minutes

Maybe BIll or JIm could estimate the total cost of conversion. In all this posting, no one has mentioned cost. I don't know what everything costs, but by the time you buy the brake components, a complete BJ front end and enough wheels to support your program,. We have been selling the complete fron...

Re: August Minutes

Sorta agree with Greg on this one. (aside from this particular change) Getting additional member input is nice but they (board) don't count the member input as votes. They do what they want to do (assumedly what is good for the class/scca). Member input has no objective meaning. Given that, changes ...

Re: August Minutes

For those that are unaware, the front brake package is VW designed, and originally came on Karmen Ghias. The rear brake package is an aftermarket kit which was not designed by VW. My Chinese reference was to the quality of the kit. I have no idea where it was built. The rear calipers are exactly th...

Re: August Minutes

VW disc brakes or for that matter any OEM disc brake system has a built in disadvantage. The pads must be in constant contact with the rotor, that produces a drag, unlike a drum system. That plus the added weight is not an advantage I would consider. You can lessen the drag with a simple modificati...

Re: August Minutes

General statement: Buy Chinese junk and you get Chinese junk. I've only had trouble with rear rotor splines once, mostly because I didn't tighten them correctly. Rear rotors are not an issue in FST, period. Good point. I should have mentioned that I have sold a few rear rotors due to spline loss. A...

Re: August Minutes

In regards to the Chinese parts issues. I remember 50+ years ago when it was Japan. Within 10 years Japan was far better than the US in machining, refining, metallurgy etc. The same cycle is occurring. Due to US pressure, QC processes etc. they are getting better everyday. There are still a few Chin...

Re: August Minutes

Jim, any disadvantage? What is the weight difference? I am unable to imagine why a rotor and caliper with mount weigh the reported 10 pounds (rotating weight, per side) more than a backing plate, wheel cylinder, and drum. OTOH, I'm sure Greg knows what he is talking about. Must be a pretty hefty ro...
