Stock '65 40 horse

http://i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad310/dsatterley/40hp.jpg I've had this engine for sale on the Samba so I thought I would also put it up here. It is a stock 40 horse but with the good square boss heads. Re-built for the street but would be okay for vintage with a sump extension. $950 complete or...

Re: Losing Power...

I have had smilar problems where it would cut out in turns when hot. One time it was the coil + side grounding on the firewall, my son saw a burn mark and we identified the problem. Another time it was a warped carb cover, it would allow fuel to slosh into the throat and flood the engine. One other ...

Re: Oh No! No gears after engine install....

Did you check the needle bearing in the gland nut? (when you had the engine out) If it is siezed you will not release the clutch.

Good luck.

Re: Sort of a poll

We will have an additional driver this season, my grandson Trey Brawner is moving up from go-karts. My son Chris may be doing more races this year at Waterford. I'm hoping to do my usual 6 races week-ends this year.

Hi Folks,

Anyone know the name of the company that re-grinds cams to vee specs. I know there out in California but can't remember the name.

Thanks

Re: engine case codes

Be carefull on the square boss heads. Make sure they are 40 hp heads that have the intake port at a right angle to the cylinder face. The 1300,1500& 1600 are square boss but have the intake port at an angle. Also make sure they are not cracked in the combustion chamber. Look for cracks between t...

Re: Thow Out Bearing

Folks,

The T/O brg is siezed, blue/black. The disc on the PP is also blue/black and warped. I'm installing a new trans so hopefully that will cure the problem. Dietmar I'll also check the free play at the clutch arm.

Thow Out Bearing

I can't get more than three week-ends out of a throw out bearing before it is destroyed. Different engines/clutches. Tried both types of bearings. Has a hydraulic clutch , I set the free play at the pedal to about 1/2 " & I don't think I'm riding the clutch. Anyone have any ideas? This one ...

I might add that there are plates available that bolt onto the outside of the axle flange. I have used these with great success as I have tended to go off track once in awhile & bent an axle boot flange! You do need longer studs with these plates. There are two style one is a complete plate the ...

Re: Engine ID/ oil pressure problems

Marcus, Before you pull the pump make sure the pressure relief valve is free. Towards the front of the motor there is a big slotted screw, unscrew it & a spring & plunger should fall out. Make sure the plunger is free in the bore. Also pull your sump plate & make sure your pick up tube i...

Re: Core engines...What to look for

Jim, The one you want to get is from a '65 bug. This has the square boss heads which are the best ones to get. The later '65's also have the cam bearings. You can use the crank, rods, manifold & misc parts from a '60-64 but that's about it. You would be much better in the long run to find a vee ...

If that one is sold, I have one for sale out of a car that did reasonably well around this area. $1500. Plus shipping. I'm just west of Kwame town ( Detroit) No longer available older son wants to race next year. I will be building another one if anyone is interested. Dave http://www.ddcracing.com
