Re: Before I do something stupid...

Have you been to a vintage race before? I'm sure if you go to one you can check out what everyone else has for a setup and that'll be a pretty close approximation to what you need.

Re: Before I do something stupid...

I think he may not be planning on doing the etch and ball because he's building it for vintage, and that wouldn't be true to period.

Re: New Hampshire Track Guide/Practice Day

Took my driver's school at NHMS and hope to be back there next month for the cheap date. You have a choice at this track as far as gearboxes go, you can run successfully a 1:26 3rd gear short box, 1:22 3rd short (most common) and a 1:26 3rd long box. For the short boxes, you'll be in 3rd gear for th...

Re: 40th anniversary FVee Race at Summit Point - Calling all dri

It's the weekend after the NARRC-offs, and a transmission change... And a tow I'll have to make myself (first time towing closed trailer, first time towing on highway, and i think 8-10hr tow... And first time towing period will be said NARRC-offs.) I'd love to come, but we'll see if I can finagal th...

Re: ADAMS Aero Steering linkage

Am I missing something or is that flex joint on the steering column sitting mid air without a brace? Not really sure that would work. I would assume the steering wheel is rigidly mounted as well as the steering box obviously being rigid too. then a brace on the intermediate wouldn't be necessary. O...

Re: Oil Cooler question

to add to the routing, i gave up a win at Pocono earlier this year because i didn't pay attention and one of the lines was sitting up against the exhaust. The line burned and if you thought vees were leaky before, weeha. I was fortunate I saw the smoke billowing out from my car and shut it down, but...

Re: Oil Cooler question

that all depends on where you want to mount it and where you want to get your air from. do you have anything specific in mind as to location or shrouding you want?

Re: ADAMS Aero Steering linkage

someone did a really bad job with your beam then, the way we have it on our Protoform, the adjuster faces forward, so you can get at it with the nose off. I would suggest cutting it out and welding it back in with a better orientation, but idk if you'll chop too much material away when you do that. ...

personally a mid guy myself. I'd never go to low cut because i think it would expose the socks, and thus one less layer between you and bad stuff.

Re: checking rear camber

Do you have the same result with a different gearbox? where do you check your camber from? I personally check it from the center of the axle tube with a digital gauge my dad picked up at the runoffs one year. If you're checking from the wheel, could there possibly be a bend somewhere in the wheel or...

which also lets everyone else know just how aerodynamic their cars are without going to a wind tunnel, just look for the drip patterns on the front of the car  by the end of my 12 lap WGI race against 3 other vees in the pack, you almost couldn't see what my onboard camera was taking for footag...

Well, at the same time. I was wishing I had plunked down the money I spent on my manifold on a HANS or the like after I needed to go to the chiropractor to fix my neck after my accident at Watkins Glen... And yes, I will be buying one before I get back out on the track again. Not gonna have my neck ...

camera winds up on roll hoop usually. allows you to see how much steering input you're using as well by watching the tires on playback.

Re: 1970 Lynx vee

What kind of camera? The usual option for the road racing vees is to have two downtubes that go from the rollhoop to the top two bolts that hold the engine and trans together. That tends to make for a nice sturdy chassis to the rear of the rollhoop. make sure they're bolt-on, not weld-on, otherwise ...

Re: July Meeting

My findings are that the new manifolds did not improve lap times significantly only about .5 to 1 sec./lap improvement on most tracks, but what they did do was make people that much harder to pass at the end of a long straight. Not having one relegates even the fastest drivers to racing for the cabo...

Re: July Meeting

you speak of having to tune your car for a tire in the event it doesn't work so well on your car as other's. So what happens if, say, Avon comes to the Runoffs and blows everyone out of the water and everyone switches over. But some cars don't like the new tire. Do you think for one moment that some...

How much racing experience do you have prior to your Zeitler? If you've held a different license before or have other racing experience, sometimes SCCA schools will sign you off to go racing after a single 6-hr school. Depends on if they think you've still got it and actually got all your track time...

Re: July Meeting

How are the American Racing tires in terms of grip level and longevity? I think the spec tire we ran for the CFV class was a Goodyear that was just a slightly harder compound (65 as opposed to the 55's that were the norm at the time, if I recall)

you mean like running the front tires in the rear that some people do to get a little bit more rpm without changing boxes? or are people running some absurd undersized rear tire?
