Re: Inner Beam bushings - Height adjuster
Hi Barry: Thanks for the update. Have you tried reaming the bushings yet? Is it doable with the reamer you found? Jean Jean, yes, sorry I meant to update this. I received the replacements from Cip1 and they are the correct items. They must be reamed to fit which is what I wanted. I have yet to insta...

Re: Inner Beam bushings - Height adjuster
Hi there: Do you have an update on this? I'm interested as a few bushings are damaged on my beam. Thanks, Jean An update on the inner bushings from Cip1. After speaking with their customer service rep and emailing pictures of what I received and expected, plus pointing out the pictures and descripti...

Re: Good tach recommendation
Hi Brian: Thanks for the suggestion. The engine is at the shop, will have to ask the engine builder to check for a worn distributor shaft. Jean I chased a bouncy tach through several tachs and found a worn shaft on the distributor that was causing the issue. Going to a modern data acq. system carrie...

Re: Good tach recommendation
Hi Steve: I would love to get one of those data acquisition systems, a Mychron 3 for example, have been looking for that FV package on the SRacing website... Similar to yours would be great. Still a bit more money than I can spend though... I end up doing more data analysis on iRacing than I do on m...

Re: Good tach recommendation
Hi:
Thank you for the replies. I checked the Autometer tachs and they are at least 4 times what I paid for the one I'm currently using... I guess I got what I paid for.

Good tach recommendation
Hi, My tachometer bounces quite a bit when the engine RPM goes over 6000. It makes it difficult to shift consistently (or monitor the engine RPM past this point). It might not be so much an issue in FV where ultimately most end up shifting by ear, but I would like to have a better idea of where I am...

Re: Formula Vee Offset Shock Mounts New
Do the lower mounts completely cover the original torsion arm attachment? I.e. do these mounts contact the torsion arm attachment at the base, the same way Mike Palermo's bushings contact the base of the spindles? Can you order the lower mounts alone? Edit: just re-read individual parts are availabl...

Re: You asked for it.
Go ask the spec racer ford guys how many heat cycles their DOT Yokohama's, or more currently, Goodyear's will last ......... maybe 7-10. The Hoosier or American racer slicks are good for over double that and cost 25% less per set. In the end though if you run street tires you will not need an extra...

Re: Valve keepers pictures
My engine builder is sending keepers with the set of retainers. I have yet to receive the package. Steve, nice explanation as usual. Jean, you mentioned that you have new retainers coming. Many after market retainers, like the Gene Berg ones I, use require compatible keepers. On the motorcycle forum...

Re: Front drum part number
Disassembled the from end today to find that I had a broken sway bar, no wonder there was so much roll... It doesn't look like the welds penetrated very deep. The holes they drilled to get the welds to penetrate are still partially visible. Any tips on how to repaire this bar? http://img705.imagesha...

Re: Valve keepers pictures
Hi Steve: Thank you for yet another great explanation. I'll make sure I follow the steps when I receive the new retainers next week. Jean Jean, Go to your local hardware store (or HomeDepot equivalent) and buy a 3 foot piece of 3/16" x 1.5" flat steel. Cut or grind a 'V' (or 'U' if you are...

Re: Valve keepers pictures
Hi: Apparently there is a 2 piece tool that allows compressing the valve springs, to replace the retainers without removing the heads. One part bolts where the rocker arms shaft goes, the other part is a lever that compresses the valve springs. Schley seems to have a $200 model... I'm looking for th...

Hi Tiago: The track at Gimli is very bumpy, it's hard on the cars. It uses part of an old air strip where the famous Gimli glider crash landed. Re: Front drum part number
I need to provide a correction: I just spoke with the guy that broke a drum at the track, and he broke a rear one, not a front one as I thought.
So I will be saving myself $100 and I will be ordering the Brazilian type.

Re: Fuel bladder/cell
Hartwig is based at the St Andrews airport in Manitoba. It's a 20min drive from where I live. They do some of the repairs themselves, at least they did the "repairs" on my old bladder. I don't recommend them at all. In 2009 I bought my FV and little did I know that it had a leaky fuel cell...

Hi: I read a while back on this forum that they are different quality front drums brakes available on the market (and some will chatter). When looking at this link http://www.cip1.ca/SearchResults.asp?Search=front+drum&Search1=Search , I understand not all drums are the ones to use for FV, but t...

Hi:
Could somebody post pictures of what healthy valve keepers and valve retainers (installed) should look like? This would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jean

Thank you for the great advice Steve, this is truly a good one. I didn't have the 14mm bolts or the tap, so I just had to deal with the worn drum this week-end... I think the reduction in brake power may have made me even faster  . Jean, Sorry to hear about the thread problem ... HOWEVER, y...

Hi, Thanks for the replies, I won't bother doing anyhting. Steve, thanks for the good words. I ran into an issue with a front drum, one of the threads finally went. Eventually somebody gave me an old one, had to remove the seals and bearing races form the damaged one and install them onto the old on...
