Re: Forged Pistons

Forged pistons did a lot for extending the service life of F/Ford 1600 engines and the F/C (Pinto), regardless of the internet dribble that you may have read that led to new engines being introduced into those classes. Better strength, longer useful life, less "junk" shedding that gets int...

Common with that engine !
Which is why they use a special coolant.

Re: Brake shoes

As with brake shoes for racing, try never to use new brake pads with new brake rotors. Condition the rotors with used pads (unless you are changing pad manufactures).
Or, condition your drums/shoes or pads/rotors in a dedicated session and not during a race weekends practice/qual. time allotment.

We stock RedLine here in SE michigan and have seen an increase in sales of their "racing" weights, ever since it became known there is a "zinc" issue, particularly for those with "older style" racing engines.

Re: Current Draw

If you are going to apply a RTV to the screw or connection for your wire, do not use a type that is corrosive, as most typically are. Open the tube and smell it, and it has a "vinegar" smell to it, than that is the one you do not want to use. The formula/sport-racer wiring kits we sell, pr...

That's quite an accomplishment Butch.
Is there anyone else you can think of who could make that statement for any SCCA class over 30 years, no less 49 years old ?
Congratulations !

Now to add to your confussion, is the just released HANS Adjustable model. Portion behind the helmet is smaller and rounder, like the HANS Sport II model, but the angle is adjustable in 5 degree increments, 10 degrees to 40 degrees.

I first went to the August National in 1971. Don't know where else I should be that time of year.
We will be there again this year with our supplies trailer.
Hope to see a large group of F/Vee's at the classic track.
If you haven't driven Grattan, you are missing quite the roller-coaster ride.

Maybe you would be better off, cutting and re-welding then bending 90 degrees. That's what the old Hewland transaxles did to the stock VW part of the clutch lever arm.

Re: -2 for front brake lines

Stephen, The reason for the better feel, is less fluid. All fluids are compressable and the less you have inside the line, the firmer the pedal becomes. -4 on brakes is not a very good idea, for a clutch it's OK. Long lengths of "flex" brake line can also make the pedal "soft". A...

First, I'll let you know that I only sell HANS. I had the chance to look at the Simpson sold devices this week at the IMIS Indy show and I'm still not that much of a fan of something like that going down my back. And I'll bet that it requires the straps to be "snug" to do the best job. I'm...

Re: OIL COOLERS

We started selling Mocal (and Setrab) (UK) made oil coolers, because the english race cars they came on and those that I first started racing, seemed to beat up most everything and those brands seemed to last a decent length of time. As noted, proper support of the inlet/outlets are important, as sh...

Re: Wire size

We have a 14 gauge wire in the kit of basically 16 gauge, for a heavy draw such as your ignition example. These kits have worked very well for years, maybe it has to do with the brand of wire. I've been told that differences do exist and that not all (?) gauge wire is the same.

Re: Wire size

The universal formula/sport racer wiring kit we sell is made up of mostly 16 gauge wire.
The one problem with smaller gauge sizes, is their durability when it comes to any constant handling and vibration/loads from use.
A little larger wire gauge just gives you a bit of a cushion.

There is no reason SCCA can't ignore the SFI and instead accept the FIA as superior. They already do with FIA/SFI belt dates. They don't replace the SFI window nets every two years!

That's great. I spend most Waterford Hills race weekends with our parts trailer in their paddock, and with a good view of the track I like nothing better than some good open wheel races to keep me entertained. Waterford is a really good track to race F/Vee at, so if you haven't been there in a while...

Re: New pressure plate hitting trans case

I assume the clutch cover/pressure plate is balanced, so any removal of material from it will have an effect and cause an imbalance vibration. I'm not an expert in F/V clutches, but maybe you have the wrong part.
