Re: transmission questioni
If your upper engine cover is supported at lower rear by the transmission tail you might check that. I once had 3rd/4th shifting problems and it wasn't the transmission at all, it was body interference that was stopping the linkage from fully engaging 4th gear. Leroy VDF-1 Coppedge

Re: Bolt on valve covers
I noticed one performance difference a few years ago when I was still racing: The bolt-on covers with fins increase the frontal area of the car. Not very much, but all "aero" improvements are very small aren't they?

Re: Take an hour and watch this
Sort of makes Chapman seem a bit like a creep. His desire to win was stronger than any feelings he had concerning the humanity of his drivers. But oh how I loved those cars of his when I was in college in the 60s. When I bought my first FV in 1970 it was a Autodynamics that the previous owner had mo...

Furthermore, when reading how to go faster books isn't better braking generally the last place one can expect to gain time over one's competitors? First you need a good line, second you need smoothness, and finally you can gain a few more tenths per lap with outstanding braking. How much an advantag...

Re: Air filter size
I saw no difference in performance on the track is all I can say. Of course, I was sometimes inconsistent and that may have skewed my results. I don't know how many low-profile filters K&N make. It does occur to me that any filter will intefere with an air/fuel charge above the carb so it's a ma...

Re: Air filter size
I think it may all depend on the "low profile" air filter. When I bought my car many years ago it had the low profile K&N installed and a respected West Coast FV person suggested I might be restricting my air flow, but I couldn't believe the man I bought the car from would have missed ...

OOPS! Try this link and I suggest starting with the street cars on the left and then bring in the F1 cars on the right!

Here is some very fine video of Jackie Stewart telling a guy over breakfast how to get around Monte Carlo fast. Listen to this guy, he knew what he was talking about, didn't he?

Re: FV Racing Sim Development
Doug, I sent you a PM with the info you asked for. There is another active FV Sim being developed according to my son at: http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=23475 The guy who posted on this post as G_Toronto is the person who originally developed the FV Sim, but he quit working on it a c...

Re: New Front Spindles
I don't have pictures, but here's the post from Brian McCarthy on the LeftCoast FV site in 2006 where I first learned of the spacers that has a bit of explanation: "There has been a considerable discussions regarding FV front spindles and their weaknesses. Several folks have some up with soluti...

Re: New Front Spindles
That's what the spindle spacers are for that Peak Performance sells--they strengthen the spindles. A few years ago I bent every part on the right front corner including the beam EXCEPT for the spindle which had the spacer installed on it.

Re: Losing Power...
This sounds remarkably like a tiny air leak into the fuel line where it connected to the fuel filter that I had once. It didn't leak fuel and it only sucked air at high rpms (loss of power)--and it was intermittent (very strange). I never figured out why it was intermittent, but once I sealed the le...

F1 Preparation Video - Red Bull
My son sent me this video tonight. Some of you have probably seen it. It's very cool and indicates how much effort goes into F1. FVs seem pretty simple compared to this stuff: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WrgxeHC228

Re: Adding Ballist
Brian, I hope your guy, when he's back in the chips, recognizes that what he does after the roll hoop is most important because most drag is created at the trailing edge, not the leading edge--correct, no? What is the projected time for your latest creation to be on a track? I like your idea of expe...

I used lead shot put in reinforced bags and super-taped to the belly pan. It's sold in 25 pound bags to shotgun owners who want to make their own shells. The bags are moldable and cheap.

I had helicoils installed in my drums at a local automotive machine shop for about $10 each because they had the kit so I just bought the threads and paid for the drilling and inserting.

Since no-one has responded to my post about solid-core plug wires potentially causing a problem for the GoPro I assume everyone uses solid-core plug wires OR no-one made the EMF interference connection that Samiam talked about. I used an Aiptek MPVR with a Twenty20 bullet camera for a couple of year...

Re: On board camera suggestions
I've been struggling to get my GoPro camera to work. My symptoms are exactly the same as Steve except I haven't managed to get a single lap--I've tried two different cameras, two different memory cards, several different kinds of batteries, and different mounting points on the car. The camera works ...

Re: FV Racing Sim Development
Come on one of you engine builders give the guy some real data (you can phony it a bit, if you like). Someday this sim may be the only racing you'll be doing. Is the data that is published in the "Getting Started In FV" closer to real life than his curve?

Re: FV Racing Sim Development
If you mean how well does it mimic a FV I will say that when I set the car up (in the game) the way I mention in the above post and drive it on west coast tracks that I've been on in real life it feels remarkably like my FV. I mean the rhythm of driving is very life like and I run times comparable t...
