Speedsport Disc Brake Installation

I received my disc brake kit from Al Varacins lat week and finished installing them over the weekend. I created a page on my website detailing the installation process: http://www.jimphoenix.com/new-fv-chassis/new-fv-disc-brakes/ For some reason, the link above opens the webpage within the FV forum ...

Re: Tires

Looking on the Hoosier website, I see 21.5 and 22.5's available with the R55A compound, is this the new spec tire or has it not yet been codified in the rules?

Re: *Official FV Runoffs Thread - 2016*

OH.. and one more thing... Brian McCarthy is in the hospital - possibly for the last time. He has stage 3 pancreatic cancer and is not expected to see the next Runoffs. Brian has contributed substantial benefit for the FV community over the last 40 years..Steve I'm very sad to hear this news about ...

Re: Engine oil Viscosity

Dietmar told me a min. of 27 psi on the straight, high rpm. My low oil press light is set at 7 psi, I've seen it flicker at idle when real hot.

Re: July Minutes

Yes, 2 years remaining on your prediction. My goal is to have 5 regular vee racers in conference within the next two years. Got 1, need four more. Selling the womer cheap is an attempt to get another vee racer running with us. Maybe re-assemble the Caracal and sell it for cost to get another racer i...

Re: July Minutes

1) A little history as I know it: First, I am assuming that Dave Schrady is not moving up to a Vortex. If so the SFR has lost one of its most loyal FV competitors. I do not have any idea how enthusiastic Jim (jphoenix) will be as time goes on, but my observation of FV competitors on the West Coast ...

Re: Machined Valve Guide Bosses

Ditto that.......I have purchased the 22mm pieces and modified them to suit, but it is time consuming. I am sure someone with the right machine (probably a screw machine) could spit them out much, much faster. Got the only info that I have on Tech Inspection Consultants.....Don't know that this is ...

Re: Machined Valve Guide Bosses

Mike said... "A QUICK SCAN THRU THE SHULTHEIS MANUAL" I googled this "Schultheis manual" - thinking maybe it is a secret manual containing all of the secrets to FV engine building. Maybe it is, but what I found was a link to this newsletter from 1972: http://www.formulavee.us/vee...

Re: 1600 case , Oil cooler, shroud ?/

I think I have a spare 1200 case that I got with a car I just bought, I know it's single relief, but not sure how to tell if it's a 1600 or a 1200. Dietmar, what's the differences that would determine 1200 vs. 1600? If it's a 1200 and someone needs it, I'd be willing to sell cheap, especially not kn...

Re: Transponder location

Mine worked fine inside the frame, pointing through a hole - until I got to Pacific - very weak loop there. The hole was cutting the signal cone or some such thing, I tried positioning it closer to the hole, but was erratic. I had to move it - now mounted to the outside of the frame with nutserts - ...

Re: Attaching speed sensor pickup

I ordered the aim rpm filter, not cheap. Hopefully it will do the job. I'm also using a shielded wire from the coil to the aim tach input, but it's not helping much.

Thanks guys, I searched and found some threads as suggested. Now I'm trying to figure out how to attach a tach sensor to the crank pulley, my AIM Mychron xg does not like the coil input.

Attaching speed sensor pickup

Where and how is the best method for attaching an AIM speed sensor and magnet. I saw one vee that has the pickup attached to the right front brake backing plate, and I believe I remember the magnet attached to the outer rim of the drum, but I do not recall how the magnet was attached. If gluing the ...

I'm running the RD4's now, they seems fine. I was told the Carbotechs are big bucks, so I think I'm good with the Porterfields.

Carbotech brake shoes

Are carbotechs currently the preferred brake shoe? I'm running Porterfields now and seem to work fine, but not cheap. Neither are Carbotechs, but thought if I was going to replace shoes, I might try a set. Seem to cost the same. Recommendations on which compound to order - if there's a choice? I lef...

Re: P2 leading arm

Thanks Bob, we have a new novice vee driver in conference, bought a P2 out of Toronto. He's doing the drivers training in April at the ridge, I'm donating four wheels but he needs tires if you know anyone with some takeoffs. His car came with the F1200 Falkens and big wheels.

Anyone know if the P3 leading arms are identical to the P2 leading arms? We have a new guy here with a P2 that needs a replacement leading arm, old one is bent.
