Re: American Racer Tire mounting issue

I am having a tough time getting the American Racer Tires to seat correctly on the later model replacement rims. Apparently, the later rims have a safety bead and I have tried every trick I can think of! Any ideas? Good luck Larry. It is almost impossible to mount them. (especially the fronts) on t...

What should the location of the transponder be? Is one location better then the other? What is better the hard wire or the rechargeable type? Thanks for the help You will want the hardwired type. They are a bit cheaper and remembering to have to charge the rechargable ones is a pain. The rechargeab...

Re: egine will not stay running

Colon,

You can get replacement foam IF your cell has a access hole big enough to get it into. If so, that is certainly the way to go. A new cell will cost you anywhere from $550 to $900, depending upon whether you can use an "off the shelf" cell or one that is custom made.

Re: Engine ID/ oil pressure problems

The 26mm pump is fine. However, if you are racing FV, you really want the 21mm pump. At the higher RPM's we turn you will get more than enough flow and waste less HP. If you are pulling stumps at below 4000RPM the 26mm is the pump of choice.

Re: egine will not stay running

Colin, Based upon your initial post, this is almost invariably a vacuum leak. As someone sugested, While idling as slow as possible, spray each of the manifold to head mating areas with WD-40, ethyer, windex or almost anything with a mist sprayer. As soon as you hit the leak, the engine will either ...

Re: Forever Leaking trans

Jim, Make sure you are not filling your transaxle case to the VW recommended level. VW says to fill to the bottom of the inspection/filler hole. Actually you ONLY want it to about 1 inch below that level. In racing you will get more than enough lubrication and the lower level and won't fill the axle...

Keep checking here, they show up periodically.

Also, you might post on the Formula First Exchange. There are a few people converting and they might have FV engines for sale.

Re: Engine ID/ oil pressure problems

If your engine was built for FV, it is almost invariably a 3 bolt (rivot) non dished cam gear. A 21mm pump is the standard. (PN is 111.105.107A) This pump is for 8mm studs. We have them in stock. (Actually we have all the VW pumps in stock.)

Re: Core engines...What to look for

Dave is right....

By the time you take down the old stock engine to see what you got, you might save $100 in parts and spend $500 of your time. Try to find a used race engine to start with.

Re: Solo Vee Disc brakes... anyone converted?

On the stock VW setup the rear brake cylinders were 19mm and the fronts were 22. So there was already front bias in the system. The disc brakes you are using probably are the same size front and rear. So you have no bias. (assuming the master cylinders are the same size.) On the formula first cars w...

I am moving beyond my proportioning valve question and we must all agree to never speak of this moment again I am sure you actually meant proportioning "bar". (or bias bar.) We all knew that. Yes, you will have to dial in more front brake bias if you have the same size brake cylinde...

The oil temp. was showing around approx. 220+ degrees. Is that high? 200 to 220 is perfect, 230-240 is a bit warm and might be indicative of another issue. (lean, poor cooling, etc) 250+ is too hot. In series. There are very minor pros and cons on which is first, but I would run through the filter first. But whatever is easiest is fine.
