Here's a copy of ZZ&DeMaskers 45 on eBay-ending soon! I had mine framed up and it looks great! BTW, this is maybe the 3rd one I've ever seen for sale, so don't wait for "the next one". http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120935545273&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:US:1...

Re: Towing with a Vanagon?

I used to tow my Vee with a 76 VW Westfalia camper: http://www.volksfolks.org/gallery/plog-content/thumbs/bug-a-paluza/bug-a-paluza-4-2002/large/1558-dsc00023.jpg It had the air-cooled 2-liter type IV engine like the early Vanagons. It wasn't quick (the bus, not the car), but it always made it if I ...

I've been using one in my C-car most of this year. It does fine as long as you relocate the shoulder belt mounts (per HANS instructions). No slippage.

Okay, everybody, we need a little help here! If you're coming, please go ahead and register. Our count is 44 for SARRC as of today, and that's well below our break-even point! Did we mention the Saturday night beer exchange??? Bring some of your favorite local brew and trade with others and try thei...

Re: Air compressor & generators

Get a compressor if you can swing it. You never know when you'll need a lot of air to fill your rains. An air nozzle is handy for blowing debris out of the car if you have an off. You can use it to blow out the trailer or van at those tracks with sandy paddocks (I'm looking at you, Roebling), or jus...

Re: Formula Vee song? Charlie Taylor?

Sounds cool! I doubt this is the same song, but "Formula Vee Special" was a tune by De Maskers in 1965. They were a Dutch group, formerly ZZ and De Maskers. ZZ left the group and they were a largely instrumental band afterward. I've never actually heard the song. They also had an album cov...

It should be noted also that on Sunday the Vees finished 1-2-3 OVERALL!

Sure, it was a small group with seven starters (down from 9 on Sat), but that included a FF and 2 F-6 cars (F500s with 600cc motorcycle powertrains). It sure looked cool for all 4 Vees to be the first 4 in the tech line!

Re: After Market Spindles

The small radius is no worse than the radius on the original part, and it is about an inch closer to the end of the spindle, which should reduce the lever effect somewhat. I'm no engineer, but I have had three spindle failures in four years (and don't tell me "you should check them every X numb...

These would be the same Yellow bastards that dropped a bomb-which may or may not have actually exploded-or something equally heavy on my shipping crate/engine a week before the SIC last year, destroying the crate, bending the manifold (!), and damaging my valve covers.

Give 'em hell!

They didn't really get a good shot of the FC wreck when it happened, either. A few cars got together in the kink and shed bits everywhere. I was glad to see live coverage, but wished for replays!

Anyone who can post here and deny that this is a problem simply hasn't had it happen to them. Yet. I ran with Bill at Nashville and can say that race was only an exception that proves the rule. The SRFs did a split start behind the Vees and stayed there only because the Vees outpaced them (for whate...

Road Atlanta was the only track around here that got on board with installing the hardware. It was really handy there. If the other tracks around here would use the hardware that the company provides (a transmitter), it would be worth it to me. As it is, I've been meaning to put mine up for sale. Ma...

Re: cylinder jug air deflectors-use or not?

Thanks for the opinions-I'm going to look for a set of deflectors. On the ducting: seems to me that the bodywork above the heads is just that-bodywork. Its purpose, while giving the air a place to exit, isn't functioning as a "duct". The duct is underneath and does bend 90 deg. As to the t...

cylinder jug air deflectors-use or not?

The air temps are getting up there this summer and so are my temps-close to 250 oil temp on a 97-deg sunny day in Nashville. I just sent my heads off and, looking at the bare jugs, wondered why the air-deflecting tins that clip under the jugs aren't there. I then looked at my spare (from a different...

Re: Nashville Super Speedway June 26-28, 2009

I've got to ditto the points made earlier. That's been my experience with Fords, as well. I've had races when they'd hold me up in corners and then out-drag me on the straights, all the time hosing me down with coolant! That's what air is for! I plan to be there regardless, but I'd sure like to be a...

For VW sedan-based parts check your area for the nearest Volkswagen show. Most have huge swap meets where you can find all kinds of used but good parts for cheap (and, no, my Atlanta steering box wasn't a used part. Go figure.).

Neat! I didn't get a chance to check that out when I was there. BTW-did you find out the engine problem? The post-race autopsy of my steering issues turned out to be the replacement box I put in. It re-affirms my ability to tighten a bolt, but not my ability to choose spare parts!

Re: Dbl SARRC at Barber 8/29-8/30

Looks like my damage was limited to the beam, broken tie rod end, and a little body work. God, I wish I'd had another foot or two and I'd have cleared Sherman. Of course, any closer and the collision would have involved frame-to-frame contact and that could have been really bad! I just didn't have a...
