Re: American Racer compounds

The last time I saw the 131 compound was at Mid Ohio. It was used by a lone competitor named Ian Sweeney, who unfortunately does not drive any longer. The car is still campaigned by his brother on the west coast. If you were member of SCCA in 2003 you can still see him in his car at Mid Ohio. He had...

Steve,

Call Ron Chuck on his cell. He should be on his way to SEMA this morning. Driving there with Don Manthe.

Re: Leading arm attachment

It's a copy of a Ron Chuck design. The design has evolved, you'll have to contact him for more information. The second design is only on one car that I know, but will probably be on another soon.

Re: August Minutes

You've assume too much, it is not dead, but then you've not competed in the SF region since you were caught ignoring the spec tire rule over 10 years ago.

Brake drum wheel stud conversion

Does anyone know a wheel stud that can be used on our drums for standard and the ones that have been drilled to put in heli-coils? I've heard of a Honda for standard, but nothing for those that were drilled for heli-coils, which is the one I'm really interested in.

Forged Pistons

Since there is a problem acquiring pistons with the proper ring groove width, what is the problem with a forged piston designed to our specifications? Has anyone looked into the feasibility and cost? Would'nt a forged piston be superior to those we now use, that needs to be cut down? Can anyone tell...

Re: Tire wear

You could, but I never did. I just used them down to the cord. They seemed to hold up until then, but as soon as it hit the cord, you'll know. I'll guess at between 15 to 20 heat cycles.

Brake shoes

I was notified of a brake shoe, where they were of a reasonable cost. I along with a few others have found them to work reasonably well. We will be using them during the season. We have found them to require a little more pressure to operate, but you can still brake deep without any fear of brake fa...

Re: August Minutes

VW disc brakes or for that matter any OEM disc brake system has a built in disadvantage. The pads must be in constant contact with the rotor, that produces a drag, unlike a drum system. That plus the added weight is not an advantage I would consider. You can lessen the drag with a simple modificatio...

Re: "new" carbotech shoes

I've tested the Porterfields too and found the R4 compound to be useless for racing, but the RD4 after being used at Road America and Fontana were good, but when used at Thunderhill, all four corners swelled and locked up. I called Porterfield about this and they had no answer to my inquires and no ...

Re: July Minutes

I've been involved in FV since '83 and have heard of the soon demise of the class every year. The reasons have not changed. This thought of converting to fst was why fst was developed. Why would FV a class that is everywhere in the country want to down size to a class that has limited representation...

Your suggestion, how does it save the class?

Re: Just don't get it!

The title says it all. To think a class that has lasted for 50 years is reliant on a single issue now.

Re: Engine oil Viscosity

We ran 20W Redline at the runoff last year, since it was so cold. Normally we run 30W Redline on the left coast, since the weather is normally above 75.
