Re: Electric Fans
I thought I might chime in, I was the co-driver of the Vee Brandon is talking about. I ran street bugs for many years. The heads got wet when driven in the rain, so I figured a little cool down spray wouldn't hurt them. Yeah, watching the stuff boil when you spray it kinda makes your stomach knot a ...

Re: rebuilding transmission
I used all parts from Long Enterprises, including the step by step DVD. I used a 1:48 third and 1:04 fourth, loved them, totally transformed the car. All of my Synchros were shot, so i did the whole transmission. I got the car (72 Lynx) reasonably quick before I had to stop driving it due to arthrit...

Re: Need a new header
When I had my old exhaust header rebuilt, I got all the parts from great plains aircraft supply, reused my collector, had a local muffler shop weld it up.

Re: Solo Vee for sale
Hmmm, talk to me, have to get out of the GT (Grey Turd, the local nick name), serious joint problems cause me to look for another car. The mentioned car is available to the right person, many updates since I purchased it. No rush, I'll keep it for my kids/grandkids before I give it away...many upgra...

Solo Vee wins National Tour
Yeah, we (my son 1, me 2) took 1st and 2nd, but the fastest F500 broke on day one of the Tristate Challenge National Tour. I hate to win that way, but we did beat one other F500. How long has it been since this has happened?
Re: Nationals
Damn, severely deteriorated shoulders, knees and left hand arthritis have made this a limited last season in the Grey Turd Solo Vee. I will miss the FMOD crew, but I must move to a low effort (P/S and Power brake car). Looking at my options, not out of the Solo game, but out of the Vee. No, I'm not ...

Re: 1970 Lynx vee
5.5 ounces requires more than 4 g's to equal one pound of force. I think the decision is correct. We design courses to be non-impact off course excursions. If we are exceeding 4 g's impact for off course, the course design is the problem. I still think this falls well within the confines of Solo, sa...

" The question was posed at the National Tour, with the Division SSS in attendance starting with the Jr Karts. The decision was to allow it." Just for your information, the SSS, Divisional or not, has no SCCA official standing in deciding whether a helmet camera is "legal" or no...

Total camera with mounting hardware weight checked at 5.5 ounces (certified postal scale), adhesive mount (no holes drilled/changes to the helmet integrity) tested to over 10 Lbs pull weight with no effect. Full movement of head/helmet tested with no interference with drivers body nor contact with a...

Re: 1970 Lynx vee
I did not intend to start a fire, sorry. The ruling, I believe, was based on 3.3.3.B(1) 1) 1) All loose items, inside and outside the car, must be removed. Hand held items, such as but not limited to, cameras and cell phones are considered loose items. and 3.3.3.B(3) 3) Any cameras, if installed, mu...

Re: 1970 Lynx vee
Here is a sample of a GoPro mounted to the side of my sons Helmet at a National tour Solo.

It's an interesting angle, gives a good look at the cockpit and the course (would've been better with out the glare!)

Or pick them up at a National tour Autocross from the Tech trailer.
Crap
Went to the Dr for my arthritis today, Xrays confirm unrepairable degradation to both shoulders and the left hand. Short term, continued slow this season, long term, I have to quit driving the Vee to slow the damage. I guess it's up to my son to keep it in play. DAMN, DAMN, DAMN.

I had that problem with my Lynx. A new spring pack solved it completely. I now have about an inch of clearance at full compression with 20" tall tires.

Blytheville National Tour
My son and I ran the Eastern States Championships last weekend. The car ran well (72 Lynx, no updates), and we had a great time. Day 2 roll bar cam. http://axaddicted.blip.tv/posts?view=archive&nsfw=dc I was too tentative with the throttle, but still ran a semi-respectable time. I should have so...

Yeah, they come up fast, but look down course, and try not to look at the front tires, a killer for time. While walking the course, squat down and get a look at the course as it will be in the car, it makes a HUGE difference. Walk until you can run it from memory with your eyes closed, you won't see...

Re: 1970 Lynx vee
It looks like you're fighting a really nasty push, Charles. See you at the Divisional. I won't have the Vee, and may not have a ride, but I'll help if you need it. Very little grip at that venue + hard tires = pushy loose. The worst turn was quite sharp, and that was where the big X was painted on ...

I ran my Lynx B today, first time on 100LL Avgas, purchased at a local airport for $3.09 a gallon.. It ran very well, and it seems to run a little cooler, which is a good thing. Here is some roughly edited footage from the first heat. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKr3A2qE2u4 I need to work on came...

Re: 1970 Lynx vee
Cleanliness of the fuel and air into the carbs is very important. I have found that certain brands of pump gas will cause plugged low speed jets as well. I take the tops of the carbs off a few times every season and check the bowls, looking for trash, cleaning as necessary. I love webers, all jets a...
