Re: looking for formcar

Fortunately Butch Deer and John Harkness did not believe that Formcars were slow and proved that they were not on numerous occasions. Not many come available for sale. Watch this space, the SR web site, ebay, or the Samba for any leads. If you are ambitious try a craigs list consolidator like search...

Re: XT Racing GPX Pro Data Acquisition / Dash

I use an AIM throttle position sensor and an autometer brake pressure sensor in my system. XT has since release their own line of sensors but I would still prefer the size of the aim unit for TPS. I mount in on the drivers left side of the carb and have added and extra arm to the throttle shaft on t...

Re: XT Racing GPX Pro Data Acquisition / Dash

Jim, you sold one to me which I use in my Lynx B Vintage formula vee. For the price it is tough to beat if you want both GPS data and vehicle data at a reasonable price. The good points. 1) GPS ability requires no beacon and gives you speed position and elevation every place around the track. 2) The...

Re: Share your FV 50th Photos...

I did attend the 45th birthday party in 2008 but was unable to attend this year. For that I was very sad. The birthday party is not like other SCCA events and participants must understand that some race groups will be larger than others as some race groups are more popular. There were more F First i...

Re: Lynx B hammerhead nose

While they are not nominally monoposto legal there are several people running that configuration with VSCDA and it has not been an issue so far. There are also several Lynx B high tails being run. I can not speak for what RMVR would allow.

Re: Vintage Tires

Yes, but before you are quick to judge on that, our vintage race weekends typically involve 1 hour of track time (three sessions) on Friday. A similar amount on Saturday and about half an hour on Sunday. As I said before about 6 weekends which would be about 15 hours of running time on a set of tire...

Re: Vintage Tires

I typically have three sets of Dunlops mounted and available when I am running more than three races in a year or have a little extra money to spend. In a three day weekend I use the "old set" for practice. I change to tires that are a newer for qualifying and race. I have one set of tires...

Re: Vintage Tires

Bill I believe your 2:56 was in June of 2003 as I recall. Any yes that is still a very good lap. That was on the old style hoosier tires which have since been updated. Monoposto regulations say the rear tire must be minimum 24 inches diameter. A smaller diameter may be good for 1.5 sec per lap on a ...

Yes bob my omission. That is the Jerry Hansen and he did drive a FV for a while but liked the big bore cars much better.

Re: Old FV race photos

These scans were from a some pictures that were given to my father about 4 years ago. He is a charter member of Des Moines Valley Region SCCA as was chief of Timing and Scoring at Greenwood. Consequently old pictures occasionally fall into his posession. He did not attend this race as my mother was ...

Re: Fuel Cell size in a Lynx?

As bob shedd stated the 152 has been used by others in the Lynx and if you were willing to tweak the shift rod outboard somewhat you could probably get away with it. It will fit within the frame but it is very tight. The cell done by Eagle fits nicely and puts the drive a little bit more upright whi...

Re: Vintage Races at Waterford Hills July 31st

Last years tires? Oh, I think I can beat that. The tires with which Terry won on my car on Saturday probably saw their first session in 2007. I know that the last set of tires I bought was at the birthday party - and I still have a set of full depth scrubbed in tires in the trailer - so the set used...

VSCDA Gingerman Race at 24 Formula Vees and counting.

VSCDA is continuing the tradition of one of the largest fields of FV in the country outside of the SCCA runoffs. The count for VSCDA Spring Brake weekend - April 29 to May 1 at Gingerman raceway is at 24 FV and counting. This does not include the additional drivers completing the Friday driver's sch...

Re: Continuing AD Restoration

The shape of the bar does not make a difference. A square .75" bar will be stiffer than a round .75" bar because of the greater amount of material further away from the center of the bar - but a round bar slightly larger that .75 can be just as stiff as a .75" square - but it will wei...

Look no further than Mike Jackson and VDCA. They have a great schedule at great tracks and are very FV friendly. You will be in good hands with large FV fields of friendly and helpful entrants.

Re: Quick V-belt swap!

It actually is quicker to do this with the engine off and the car in forth gear. You can push forward on the belt on the left hand side of the pulley -push the car forward and the belt will pop right off. Put the new belt over the generator pulley and the left hand side of the crank pulley - push th...

Re: z bars

If you ask 10 vintage FV races about Z bar and cable limiters you will probably get 12 or 13 different opinions. In general Z bar is preferred. The Zbar basically takes the roll resistance out of the rear suspension and also lowers the spring rate in two wheel rebound - it also increases the spring ...

Re: Vintage Tires

Don, before you go and try something different you may just want to see if you can pick up some used Dunlops from someone in your area. If you are new and trying to make it to the track most people in vintage will try to find a way to help you out.
