Chassis Stands?

I want to get a set of stands like these: https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/productselection.asp?Product=3175 or something similar, but I can not find anyone that is happy with an off the shelf version. I have spoken to several local drivers asking if they like their stands and where they got them. ...

Re: Brakes - drums -> discs

John F - thanks for the explanation and emails. It appears that the one technical road block could be that the forces created by the shoes on the discs could be too much for our current spindle setup because it would be located at one point rather than spread over a wide surface area. All "coul...

Re: Brakes - drums -> discs

John (or anyone else) Educate me - why do the spindles need to be stronger with disc brakes vs drums? Also, if I buy the rotors do you think you could build a bracket and caliper setup that would work? I'm thinking about switching to discs for one of the NHMS regionals. After I run them they are ava...

Re: Brakes - drums -> discs

I believe the ball joint beam is too radical of a change for most FV drivers. I also feel that the only disc solution that has a chance of passing right now is a front conversion that uses a Wilwood caliper and a two piece rotor all on the current beam, spindles, wheels, etc...I am no rules person b...

Re: Brakes - drums -> discs

Hi Barry:

Is the weight a reason to not allow it? If it is a penalty to run them why not allow the heavy disc package and let the racers decide?

I assume 4.5" wide or smooth wheels are legal. Same thinking - if it is a penalty to run them why not allow people?

Brakes - drums -> discs

As with a lot of stuff this "has been tried before", but I wasn't around back then. I was on my ass last weekend with my fancy adjuster tool in one hand, spinning the wheel with the other and a flashlight in my mouth and it hit me - wouldn't discs be much easier. With the recent shortage o...

Re: Goodyear tires

F500 racers have been in the same boat with just Hoosiers for several years now. Shoot does this mean we will lose all awareness of other cars on the track, take two laps to get up to speed, only have that speed on straights and throw an anchor out in turns and basically get in the way of any good ...

Re: Spec Tires

One of the things I can't get over is that the most comparable examples (no Grand Am, F1, Indy, Nascar) use spec tires that were already in existence and then picked up by the class. I believe: San Fran region used an off the shelf AR Racing tire. Spec miata uses an off the shelf (but re-badged) R6....

Carb - $250 obo

Came off a former runoffs car (not his spare - it was the carb on the car). I ran it last year to a few regional wins and 1:15.5s at NHMS. Unbolted, cleaned and wrapped up ready to ship. No known issues - if not for aquiring a different carb I would be running this one in 2012.

Thanks,

Craig

- ask the tire makers to produce a compound that gets better with age. - the toyo RA-1 ran its best laps on cord and so do the falken's the 1200's run, how is it that street DOT R compounds can do this and the current slick used in vee does not? everyone knows how awful the toyo R888 were and look ...

Re: Spec Tire Survey Results

Can we just start the process with the step of making the Hoosier 55 the spec. tire for FV? I think this is a good starting advantage in and of itself, but to go beyond, we could use our collective bargaining power and firm stance of support for a supplier to negotiate for a lower price. $100 or $2...

Re: Spec Tire Survey Results

The least acceptable way of dealing with this is picking the hardest current tire (R55's) as a spec and getting the price down. The R55 is what 72% of the people are looking for when asked what type of spec tire they would want. "A specifically designed slick tire by Hoosier, Goodyear, America...

Re: Spec Tire Survey Results

Craig, The only thing I would add is that the question responded to was "tire designed to last 12-15 heat cycles with little grip degradation, rubber to last 20 heat cycles"... otherwise, you pretty much summed it up. I don't feel the R55 fits that model, but you're correct with the R60 g...

Re: Spec Tire Survey Results

So what did we learn? I got out of it: 1. If we went with a spec tire, of those racing 8-10% said they would race less. 11% of national drivers would race less or quit. 20% would race more or be inclined to race. 2. Entry fees, tires and travel expenses are the biggest expenses (and one driver who m...

Re: Tire Survey

I still think support and contingincies are important to making the descision. How much support should we expect from American Racer or Falken at SCCA events - especially regionals? Would they have an inventory at the track for us? I could be talked into a Goodyear or Hoosier spec tire - I would act...

Re: Tire Survey

If we do go to a spec tire (which personally I hope we don't) let's do it right. SM is on their third spec tire in as many years. We can't afford to make those type of mistakes. IMHO we should reward the suppliers who have been loyal to the class with at track support and contingencies if possible t...
