Re: My Formula Vee..

If you check the back of the book for class champions, you might find that Bill Goodell had 3 B Modified National Championships in the late '70 s with his Deserter dune buggy :--). Those were the "good ol' days"; no wings, data systems or other electronic stuff  More cool info...than...

Re: My Formula Vee..

Back in the 60's, Carroll Shelby had a factory Cobra autocross/gymkhana team. Bruce Meyers, creator of the Meyers Manx dune buggy, started his own team. Much to Mr. Shelby's great chagrin, the Manx' usually beat the Cobras. The cutting brakes on the buggies were a huge advantage on tight courses. I...

Re: My Formula Vee..

Nice car and nice job going thru the cones. Never thought a buggy could handle so well. Looks like a whole lotta fun! Put a video up when you get the vee going. We'd like to see it. Thanks.... and the handling really surprised me too...it is built on an engineered chassis (not a Beetle pan) and I r...

My Formula Vee..

Re: I'm goin' retro

I have a 74 thing that will lift the front wheels(with vee slicks on back) running a 1835 with dual webber 34's dyno showed 149hp. surprised me and the guy running the dyno. THOR full cage, race seat, 5 point belts Dynoed the buggy today. No such surprise here...rather tame results.....but i am hap...

Re: I'm goin' retro

Did a little cleaning today and the carbs are 44 IDFs , so that pretty well convinces me that the engine is 1800 or larger.

Re: I'm goin' retro

Scott, It came with no records. The lady engineer that owned it said it was a "pro built 1800 or 1915" (she thought?) and it is extremely well built. It is not built on a Beetle chassis, but rather on a beautifully crafted custom chassis "to withstand the power of the engine"...I...

Re: Need help - know nothing!

Paul, You might want to check Drews Off-road. They do all my engine work and have a great reputation... http://www.go-drews.com They are here in Hamilton, Ohio. I do not know where you are but I thought I would give you the info. Johnny B. I'm north of Toronto, Ontario, but I will definately check ...

Can't wait to see the final results Paul. Cool Dyno video 8) Glad to hear your plan to keep the original body/shape. It's too nice to change! PS Here's the plate idea we heisted from your Huron for the Stalker that I told you about. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v640/snookwheel/Mtyfun-1.jpg Sco...

Re: Need help - know nothing!

Here is an update. I had the existing single port dynoed and she made all of 36 hp at the wheel....this completely confirmed my thoughts and I decided to rethink minor upgrades in favour of drastic measures. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdzcAKBw1n4 So I did nothing this season while I researched t...

Re: '65 FV a favorite at the big VW show

Congrats. Paul. But, clearly the competition was rigged! The Huron should have been 1st! Scott Ya... whats with that judging Scott! Actually I am considering buying the winning Beetle as it was for sale...a real beauty, but i would chip the paint and wear it out driving the way I do. I am not norma...

Re: The Solo Vee is getting a room mate

I expect the reason the Calgary Stalker is for sale is that he cannot get it registered legally nor insured here....would be alright as a strictly race car. I have a need to have my cars fully insured and i like that every strange car i have had has been street legal as i never get enough time on th...

Re: The Solo Vee is getting a room mate

Scott, You are one lucky guy..I have been a fan of the Stalker for some time but they are not eligible for importation into Canada. Enjoy and be safe....those things are considerably overpowered...just what I am planning for my Huron. haha

Re: Need help - know nothing!

Okay.. I notice that you have a ball joint front beam right? Your wheels are 15" 4-bolt? Are you running disc brakes? BTW, an additional low cost added to the heads and carb would be some improved ratio rocker arms. Ask your Vee shop about them.. I like the car! You have to be aware that if yo...

I really like that Vee. Have you ever seen another like it? Scott Yes, in the 1960s at Mosport International Speedway here in Ontario Canada. My uncle marshalled there and took me along to watch.
