Re: Brainerd. short or long box

Hal, Like I said over on Apex (and repeat here in case someone misses it there) the short track at Brainerd is OK for either long or short with a slight time advantage going to the short but its easier to drive with the long. BTW, is the new owner up in the Twin Cities area or at least somewhat near...

Re: *Official FV Runoffs Thread - 2016*

Formula Vee has lost another icon. Brian's extensive knowledge and willingness to share it will be missed as will his often sardonic wit. As Steve has stated, Brian was a doer, participating actively in FV and SCCA for many years. One of his last big pushes as BOD member was to help us get the FV Ad...

Re: Engine oil Viscosity

Crank "Flex" might be the wrong word to use in regards to what is happening in an AC VW engine. Crank "whip" is the term used in the references I read years ago when racing a Type 1 1600 engine powered car. "Bowing" might be an even more descriptive term. It is caused b...

Re: July 2016 Minutes

Thanks Greg, I had a long run on the committee, probably too long... Just to correct you on one thing: I was on Steve's original committee, not added later. And yes, I did feel a little out of place at first with all those past national champions. What I quickly found out was that they were all real...

Re: FV Intake Manifold Rules Clarification July 2016

My preference would be to rely on the upcoming AD HOC committee to resolve this issue but there's too little time before the Runoffs. Fine. Whoever is on the new committee can deal with this but with the rule change already in place, only after the fact. Why the "heck" did the CRB issue t...

Re: FV Intake Manifold Rules Clarification July 2016

Chris, One could certainly bead blast most of the coating off and then re-coat it with a clear lacquer or whatever. I know someone who has tried this and the result was a lightening of the color, not it's complete removal. Of his three manifolds this one is still the darkest. Is that good enough to ...

Re: FV Intake Manifold Rules Clarification July 2016

Brian, Indeed, the class voted for the "current" manifold rules. But that new rule set went through the entire "SCCA rule change process" in 2010 and the new rules went into effect the following season as desired by the class overall. The fact that the new rules obsoleted about 3...

Re: FV Intake Manifold Rules Clarification July 2016

Wow Mike. Thanks! I had no idea tech was having so much trouble with manifold colors. AFAIK, there has never been a complaint from tech that they cannot see the "original condition of the exterior surface" through the transparent, thin coatings being applied to some of your competitor's &q...

As discussed in our last few meeting minutes, the FV Ad Hoc Committee believes that machining of the valve guide bosses to fit smaller valve springs should not be allowed because it constitutes an unauthorized modification. We disagree with the recent rules "clarification" allowing this mo...

Re: Machined Valve Guide Bosses

What Rules?

If the FSRC and CRB can just legislate new allowances into the rules via "clarifications" what exactly are the rules?
I suggest that anyone who thinks the rules should be enforced as they actually read should write a letter to the CRB asking them to do just that.

Re: December Minutes

Brian, Your ignorance of the actual wording of the GCR is comical for someone who is constantly trying to torture it to your advantage. From the May, 2015 GCR, Technical Appendix, page 164: "> Fasteners – Any mechanism which serves no other purposes than to cause a component to maintain a fixed...
