Re: Bill Barker Death

Jim, Thanks for posting up. Mom is home now and doing really well, all things considered. She fractured her C2 vertebrae, but it should heal on it's own after several weeks in a C-collar. She also had a few broken ribs, collapsed left lung, and a concussion, but all are healing nicely. We're glad sh...

Re: Does FV NEED TO BE SAVED ?

Brian, I understand your argument and agree with what you are saying about driver talent. I did not infer that FV drivers are better than any other group. I said FV is "a" class, not "the" class that rewards driver skill. I also did not post lap times to stroke anyone's ego or &q...

Re: Does FV NEED TO BE SAVED ?

Jaymzz, I wholeheartedly agree with Butch that Vee racing is more about competition than outright speed. That being said, take a look at some lap times for Vees compared to a lot of the tin top classes and you might get a new appreciation for how fast they really are. A quick look at 08 runoffs qual...

Found some spares I need to part with

7 wheels; 5 are in very nice condition, 1 is a bit rusty, and one has some damage but could probably be straightened. http://i878.photobucket.com/albums/ab348/jb_11/IMG_1734Large.jpg http://i878.photobucket.com/albums/ab348/jb_11/IMG_1735Large.jpg 2 Axle Tubes http://i878.photobucket.com/albums/ab34...

Re: Mouth guard

I think by mounting to the lower jaw it is less likely to be a choking hazard. Check it out here:

Re: Mouth guard

I bought the Shock Doctor one. It fits on your bottom teeth instead of the top, so I find it a little easier to talk, swallow, etc. with it. I got it after reading that some concussions in impacts are caused by your jaw slamming shut. I forget where I got it, but I think it was about $15.

How do the Formula SAE cars compare with the 500s at a typical autocross? Most of them are running 600cc motorcycle engines.

Re: Headrest location and material

I forget the exact wording in the GCR, but I think it specifies a non-resilient foam pad 1" think covering 36 sq in. Ethafoam is one of the types they recommend. This was the best deal I found when I was shopping several years ago: http://www.nrsweb.com/shop/product.asp?pfid=2078 This will prov...

Re: Runoffs practice tickler

Brake points are easy. Hold the throttle til you see God, then brake. There, I saved you $1200.

Seriously, though. I think it was a mistake to make all four days of Runoffs week count for qualifying. They should have kept at lease one session as a free practice.

Re: Bulb for Trouble Light

I find that the LED lights are durable and run cool, but the light is very discrete. Incandescents light up a much broader area. With LEDs you have to position light carefully to hit your work area.

Odyssey makes a very nice, durable battery. I've used the PC680 before with good results, but I think it's the same size as the one you're replacing.

Re: RACEceiver Driver Information Systems

Some roundy-round tracks use a one-way radio to drivers to provide safety info / gridding info for restarts / etc. They do not allow spotters then.

Re: trailing or leading arm rear suspension?
If one wants to tune those "secondary reactions" as a performance tool, it is probably easier with the rear arms. When was the last time a FV with forward arms won the Runoffs. Why is that .... I wonder.
Maybe because Vortechs have good aero,...

How is the pavement this weekend? I heard there was some repaving recently to correct some rather horrid track degradation in a few corners.

Re: Chevy Trans cooler Install

Doesn't the radiator help warm the tranny fluid more quickly and keep it at the proper operating temp in cold weather conditions though? I'd keep it routed through the radiator and then get a thermostat for the aux. cooler to keep it from overcooling the fluid. Or, you could skip the thermostat and ...
