Re: Is this a Beach Forumla V ?
The serial number would indicate it is a Beach 5C made in 1966-67. It should have a round tube chassis. The earlier cars use square tubes. That is not a 5C body but appears Zink related.

1965 Beach 5b For Sale
Beach at Hallett.JPG The Beach 5b was the model that Gene Beach sold to Germany along with some domestically. Chassis number 67 was built in 1965 in Kirkwood, Missouri by Herb Wahlmann and Lou Astroth. The car went to several driver schools and was driven in the 1966 Trans-Am support race at Mid-Am...

1969 Shark Vintage Formula Vee for sale
This car was built by Shark Race Products in 1969 as a prototype to replace the original Shark design. Only one was ever produced. It appears in "Vintage American Road Racing Cars 1950-1970" on page 121. It has had seven owners since new. I have owned the car since 2001. It has an SCCA log...

Re: Good all around shop welder ???
You can find a lot of used MIG welders on craigslist. I've got a Genex 140 that runs on 110 that does everything I need. Used stick welders are usually available for $100-125 and they can definitely fix your trailer. Welding with a gasless MIg gives a lot of smoke and does not have a lot of penetrat...

Re: Help with formula Vee history
The pictures you show indicate that the car is one of the 10 Sardini's that were built in Manhattan, KS by Don Pereboom. The ladder frame, the steering column mount, the pointed tail, and the doghouse of the body are the best clues.

Re: exhaust sound levels
My son first ran his Beach 5B with the original 4 pipe exhaust. It had a lower sound than the current 4 into one system that he has now. The four pipes give more of a bass rumble.

Re: Rationals scheduled in the West
I am presently an SCCA member. Why? Because I have to be a member to be in the hot pits when my son races his IT car. I race in vintage with CVAR, RMVR, and VSCDA. Both CVAR and RMVR offer race weekends for $250 with plenty of track time. VSCDA costs are higher depending on the track. I raced SCCA a...

Re: Av gas
I buy my avgas at the regional airport. I use the self-service and pay by credit card. The operator told me to put in a tail number so I make one up. He's even helped me when the pumping system acted up. Never had anyone question me.

Re: Another shoe question
My son wears size 13 shoes. He has no problem in his car with his race shoes, but he does have clearance issues with his street shoes. The nomex socks I have seen and use are thin and should not cause a problem.

Re: More novice questions....
To remove the existing patches, you need to use what they call a "seam ripper". You can find them at Walmart, Hobby Lobby or Hancock Fabrics. My wife is a quilter and has several. Use the cotton thread. I agree with the previous post. There usually is some kind of adhesive on the patch so ...

I have quite a few of the entry lists for Mid-America in the 70's. If you give me a date from the log book, I'll try and find the data.

Re: Vintage Charging system
Paul, don't try that combination. A 6 volt generator puts out about 9 volts maximum. Running that combination will draw the battery down. I've seen it done by another vintage racer. He would faithfully charge the 12 volt battery between sessions. By the end of the next session the voltage would be l...

Re: Vintage Charging system
My son and I both have vintage vees with working charging systems. Both are twelve volt systems with a 6 volt starter. To my knowledge, the 12 volt generator did not have the voltage regulator mounted on top of the generator, only the 6 volt. My son has the regulator mounted on the front of the fan ...

Re: Looking for vintage vee to restore.
Would you be interested in a Beach 5C located in Kansas City? Chassis has a new fiberglass nose and tail to be fitted. Gearbox, suspension, slotted wheels and most other parts along with a donor 40hp motor. Asking $1000 for the package.
