Re: July 2016 Minutes

Hey Bruce. Thankyou to you and the other committee members who are retiring from committee service. Your addition to the committee was, at the time, very important as it was a shift from the "elite" drivers that were initially selected. Not that you are not "elite" in your own wa...

I think this is a case for the "reasonal man" argument. I assume you mis-spelled and mean "Reasonable Man" ------------------ My original response was edited by the moderator. My original comments were directed at a composite "unreasonable man". If someone felt that I ...

FV Side Intrusion Panels

There was a thread on Apexspeed about side protection that had a lot of interest from FV drivers. It got buried amongst some hotter issues. Here was my suggestion. Great idea that needs developing into a concept into application! "Spec" sized side pods are the only way that I see to add re...

Re: More tire info...

If you only get two Majors weekends out of two sets of tires; you are doing something wrong. Yes Scott , slow down. And spend $15/18/21/24 per tire (whatever your at-track provider charges) to flip them on the wheels after every session. As long as people are "content" with the current ti...

Re: Retro Letter 2004 or Why SCCA System Sucks

I have sent in my letter regarding the disc brake fiasco. Doing my part to support the stupid SCCA process that will waste several years, and 100s of hours of energy, before maintaining the status quo ...... all the while providing the unnecassary distraction from good discussion about lowering FV c...

Re: Retro Letter 2004 or Why SCCA System Sucks

Yes.
A well thought out, and well written proposal, great for the class, presented independantly, with no dirty backroom politics, went absolutely nowhere.

Re: Landon Transmissions, Mysterian Body

I'm really tired of moving these around. I cannot seem to find a spot where I'm not tripping over them. They need to go.
$1000 for the pair of transmissions.
I have road trips planned in the next month from Niagara Falls to Indy and another to Frederick, MA. Free delivery along those routes!

Retro Letter 2004 or Why SCCA System Sucks

I was looking for some bio material and found this correspondance on my PC. JANUARY 12, 2004 To: SCCA Club Racing Competition Board From: Greg Rice I would like to submit 3 rule proposals for FV. Please see attachment. Formula Vee has always been a class for common people. As the class has evolved,...

Re: Av Gas & regular gas mix?

If you believe unleaded pump gas will make more power, why mix it with Avgas? The reason that I use Avgas is because I consider it a constant, theoretically anyway, meeting aviation standards with minimal contaminents. My engines are dynoed on avgas and I see very clean valves/valve seats that can g...

Re: August Minutes

Perhaps I was exaggerating but ..... drill 2 holes and tighten up 4 bolts. Could be a 10 min job. I was agreeing that bolting on the beam was not the time-consuming part of the job. It was modifying the bodywork and pieces around the beam ..... which may take several hours, several days, or several ...

Still disappointed to see all this wasted energy that could be put into instituting a great control tire program that 2/3rds of the FV community wants.

Re: August Minutes

All that may be true. I have worked in many machine shops, the custom machine building industry, and worked on many cast iron components in my racing career. The quality of those rotors was unlike anything I have seen. I had more troubles with those rotors in 3 weekends than in 3 years with freebie...

Re: August Minutes

I'm not in favor of this change and would write a letter against it. Those that want this change, already have the FST option. I'm just so tired of Brian's attitude about the class in general. He has absolutely no sense of urgency to do anything and is proud of that stance and the dysfunctional SCCA...

Re: August Minutes

Not making something mandatory doesn't matter. It's a rule change and there's a long standing process that we must follow. You make that sound like a good thing, rather than the reason SCCA is an outdated model, unresponsive to its members needs, and failing miserably as a 21st century organization.

Re: August Minutes

The inner needle bearing assembly is the same as on a LP beam. The outer needle bearing assembly is larger. The BJ beam tubes are spaced further apart than the LP beam tubes and the mounting holes are proportionally further apart. You can drill a 3rd hole in the beam mounts to locate the BJ beam on ...

Re: August Minutes

I do know that when you drill/machine it, you do not get typical "metal filings" but piles of granular metal particles. That is typical of cast iron parts.. Try feeding faster and don't use coolant, but it'll always make a mess, no matter where the cast iron came from! I don't think the r...

Re: August Minutes

For those that are unaware, the front brake package is VW designed, and originally came on Karmen Ghias. The rear brake package is an aftermarket kit which was not designed by VW. My Chinese reference was to the quality of the kit. I have no idea where it was built. I do know that when you drill/mac...
